Ali Vali
57 books460 followersAli Vali is the author of the long-running Cain Casey "Devil" series and the Genesis Clan "Forces" series, as well as numerous standalone romances including two Lambda Literary Award finalists, Calling the Dead and Love Match, and her 2017 release, Beauty and the Boss. Ali also has a novella in the collection Girls with Guns.
Originally from Cuba, Ali has retained much of her family's traditions and language and uses them frequently in her stories. Having her father read her stories and poetry before bed every night as a child infused her with a love of reading, which she carries till today. Ali currently lives outside New Orleans, Louisiana, and she has discovered that living in Louisiana provides plenty of material to draw from in creating her novels and short stories.

This novella was first published in the 2020 anthology Still Not Over You.
Whiskey distiller Preston Cinclair still has no idea why her college girlfriend, Hayley Wyatt, disappeared from her life right after collecting her diploma without telling Preston why. Eight years later, Hayley arrives at Preston’s business in New Orleans to bid on an advertising campaign that would be a feather her family’s business. Hayley hadn’t known Preston was part of the famous Cinclair family and is shocked and dismayed to find the person who is making the decision about hiring her company is her former college girlfriend.
Vali has written a second-chance romance that has two strong and likable women who, luckily, don’t fall into a vat of angst over their shared past. Vali maintains a low-key tension as her story progresses as to whether both women will allow themselves permission to stay the course to find happiness.
While the story has been done before, Vali brings her significant writing skills and imagination to bear on this story to make it unique within the genre. She does an outstanding job of developing both her characters and her storyline. By the end of the novella, readers will be disappointed that it has ended.

On the Rocks is a second-chance novella starring two intelligent, dynamic, and extremely stubborn women. With a few insights, and several strong nudges, from the supporting cast Preston and Hayley eventually manage to find their way back to each other. This is a fun, if all too brief, tale.
