Mmm, five stars all the way till the brick wall ending. Not impressed but the book was strong enough to carry the 5*s through. The plot was fully sign-posted but is well written.
The prose here is simple and juvenile. There are a handful of moments where the writing switches from third to first person, which is jarring. The characters lack dimension and there is little chemistry between them. But those aren’t even the worst part of this book. I thought I was just reading a slightly below average romance novel, and then there was a plot twist. I rolled my eyes so hard, I might have hurt myself. And the characters from that point on became completely unlikeable. I’ve read a couple by Cannon now, and I haven’t been impressed. I’m not sure I’ll be able to talk myself into reading any more.
Cute romance between police detective Kyle Bain and cafe owner Lane Connor. Kyle has been a customer at Lane's cafe for a couple of years. When Lane returns to work after a long illness sparks fly. This book has a lot of great flirting. I like Kyle and appreciate the challenges of being a single parent and balancing a new relationship. Lane is also wonderful and is willing to take things slowly. I was not surprised at the big twist and the ending seemed drawn out and then abrupt.
I probably would give it 3.5 stars if that were an option. While the premise is a bit far fetched I was willing to buy it. I think the novel's first two thirds was realistic in its portrayal of a new couple growing together but the last 1/3 was rushed and not well developed. An entertaining & enjoyable story with some intriguing & interesting likeable characters, several hot scenes & an intense emotional draw. But… how it ends just overpowered everything I felt about the story & left me with a bad taste & bitter feelings about the whole book as a result.
Well this book was not what i expected that for sure. I loved how they went straight to the connection both women had insistently. It took time for them to build up there relationship but were content to what each women had to offer. What really caught me of guard thou was the whole heart transplant problem. We don't find out who it actually belongs to in the end but still it was a little surprising. In all i really enjoyed the book and how it was written but actually didn't like the ending much. Yes they night have gotten back together but the whole heart is still a mystery. But still in all enjoyed the way the story went.
Easy to read and easy to like the characters. I enjoyed that the book got straight into the growing romance and the twist was unexpected and interesting.
This book is okay. The premise is good, but I find the execution not that satisfying. Romance novels tend to follow a formula, which I personally do not mind. 2 people meet, sparks fly, and they get together. Inevitably, there are issues they have to work through. Something happens to test the relationship. Then we see what the characters do to overcome this obstacle and hopefully, live happily ever after. It's this last point I find lacking. Maybe because the book is not that long and the writer just needed to end it. The resolution is quite abrupt. As mentioned, not satisfying.
