I would have given the book more stars but the author had a couple of chapters of just quotes that Kimball may or may not have said. There was no explanation behind the quotes, nothing. Just paragraph after paragraph of random quotes. This really killed the book for me. For example, one paragraph was about Kimball sitting in on a trial and says that they should excommunicate the man because he "didn't have the spirit of Israel in him". I'm not saying Kimball didn't say it, but what was the point of having the paragraph in the book?
Other than these chapters it was really pretty good.
THis was a short read but helped me understand a man that has so much myth surrounding him. Not to say there isn't more myth in this book as well, but I feel I gained an understanding of his motivation to act the way he did. He was an imperfect man who did more good than harm in this world. He's a new favorite person of mine.
This was a very entertaining and often inspiring book. I love to read about J. golden Kimball. He is a symbol of so much that is good about the LDS Church and how the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes good men great.
