The star of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss makes his Step into Reading debut in this rhymed reader that offers kids easy suggestions for going green! After explaining how the trash in a wastbasket ultimately ends up in a landfill or incinerator, the Lorax suggests realistic ways children can reduce waste, such as by carrying a lunch box, donating old clothes and toys, sharing magazines with friends, recycling cans and bottles, and using rechargeable batteries. He also explains how they can save energy around the home by turning off lights, taking shorter showers, donning sweaters to stay warm, and much, much more. All in all, this is a great introduction to helping the Earth and helping kids step into reading!

Tish Rabe has apparently written quite a few books based on Dr. Seuss characters. This one is obviously one of those. It takes a classic Dr. Seuss character, Lorax, and continues with it, but instead of giving the reader a story, like in the original, she goes into explaining to kids how they can be more green, and help minimizing pollution. It’s well done, though perhaps a bit dry compared to the original. Still a nice environmental book for this age group.
In this book the LORAX explains what happens to the trash from our houses and cities as it makes it way through the Earth. He explains how it either hurts the Earth or helps if we can recycle some of it. He gives kids advice on how they can help!
I gave this book 5 stars. Although it is lengthy, it was a wonderful level 3 book for the Step into Reading series! It has wonderful information on what happens with trash as it makes its way into the Earth and what everyone can do to help! I think this is a wonderful book for everyone, but especially if you have read The Lorax before hand, this book is a wonderful character to follow!
I would use this book to teach children about the Earth and what happens when you let the Earth fill with trash. This would be a wonderful book about taking care of our planet, Earth Day, recycling, and of course a cute character series for those Level 3 readers who love The Lorax by Dr. Seuss like me and get excited by any book that these characters are in! That would make great encouragement for these students to try this book which is a little more difficult of a reader!!
Miss 7 enjoyed this educational rhyming reader which has tips like shorter showers, turning the tap off when brushing teeth, and turning lights off when not in use.
Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
A lovely book outlining ways kids can do their part for the environment. Unfortunately, the rhymes don't scan as smoothly as some of Tish Rabe's other Seuss books. Still worth reading.

My Review: This is a great level 3 beginning reader book, it is longer and has more complicated sentence structure and words, but it can also be enjoyed when read to a younger child. It had many great lessons on how to help the environment, and all simple things that kids can do or help remind adults to do. Throughout the book there are the wonderful rhymes for great reading pacing and the illustrations are all fun and bright. Munchkin rather enjoyed this book and it tied in well to our spring cleaning and the upcoming Earth Day.
This independent read could be incorporated into an ecology unit; however, it wasn't super clear about how turning off water, etc. saves the environment. Students would have a lot of questions. Should be supplemented with more information.
Author Tish Rabe channels Dr. Seuss in an attempt to teach kids about the protecting our environment by going green. The Step Into Reading early reader makes its point in a charming, nonthreatening way. Children can become overwhelmed or anxious when learning about environmental issues, but this book presents both problems and practical kid-friendly solutions in an optimistic way.
In addition to the informative rhymes, the illustrations are quite Suessical, too!
Step Into Reading Level 3. Recommended for grades K-3.
The Lorax explains practical, kid-friendly ways to help the Earth. Topics such as recycling, conservation, and reusing are discussed. It is written in Dr. Seuss style rhyming and is easy for kids to understand the concepts.
This book is great for 3rd grade and for Earth day or going green discussions.
I thought this was a really good book. It teaches about keeping the earth clean. It helps teach about recycling and pollution. I also enjoyed the pictures, they went along with the book great.
L.E. I would take a bunch of recyclables and have the children sort the. We could also graph which items go where.
This book is about what kids can do to help the earth and slow down the effects of global warming. It is written in poems from the point of view of the Lorax. This book gives simple solutions for kids to help save the world.
I wanted to read an Earth-day themed title to my kids, and Warren seemed to enjoy the original Lorax tale. This has some helpful tips for saving energy and recycling. My kids can't help as much with that yet, but they enjoyed the visuals nonetheless.
