i REALLY enjoyed all the action and fight scenes here, compared to last volume, with metal, sonic, and surge. getting more focus on kit and especially surge and her psyche, just great overall.

i love all the layers and dynamics going on between sonic and surge and i hope i get to see more of it in future volumes bc they left me craving more. grabby hands

also biased for metal (one of my favs) i loved seeing him alot more in this volume. Let him Fight !!! let Sonic fight !!! More Fight !!!

i don’t think surge and kit are being utilized to their full character potential. they could be done so much better, but they’re arc just gets stale by the end of it when it could be so much more interesting. they’re tragic characters, so much could be done here with a story like theirs, but it’s just another unnecessary fight. by the third surge fight i’m thinking just send her to THERAPY.

This was an incredible read. Surge is a sight to behold and a force to fear. I'm loving the dynamic she has with Kitsunami; it's great that the authors aren't afraid to have some darkness in these stories despite these comics being geared towards children. But I think they know that adults that grew up with Sonic are reading these comics too. An excellent volume!

IDW DOES NOT MISS WITH ITS NEW CHARACTERS. Surge and Kit are great new villains and I’m loving Belle’s story so far. The art and action is AMAZING, especially in Issue 56.

I'm grateful for another arc as dynamic and severe as the Metal Virus. No this is not as all-encompassing as the Metal Virus but it's still an Avengers Level Threat IMO. "The Sorrow of Surge - Sonic Speed Reading" by Game Apologist covers just how emotional this whole arc can be. With heavy topics like codependency and abuse, the heaviness does not come from the battles like Metal Virus. Rather it's from the psychological toll Kit and Surge represent.
I do appreciate how formidable an opponent Surge became. I appreciate the ghosts that haunt her and how it made me stop and think about whether Sonic (like Starline) was still trying to "fix" her in his own (less cruel and oppressive) way. Surge raised some good points along her arc and I feel like this ending(?) makes the most sense. I actually love the moments between Metal Sonic and Sonic. I feel that relationship just keeps giving.

Surge and Kit's 'revenge' against Sonic and Doctor Eggman continues, because apparently the big fight in issue 50 wasn't enough. I do enjoy both characters, and there are some nice layers introduced for them here, especially Kit.

Surge however continues to just irrational and angry, which is a fair response to her life, but does lead to repeated arguments of 'don't do that' 'but I wanna kill everyone' 'but don't do that' across these five issues.

I'm kind of glad to see the back of this arc, honestly. It's got a lot of potential that feels unrealised in favour of more punching.

Definitely one of the darker plots given what Surge and Kit went through, though it is certainly a welcome change of pace in the narrative! The art for this particular book was marvellous, especially the panels with supercharged Surge! I can't help but find myself continuously impressed by the IDW series.

for a sonic the hedgehog book, surge and kit have an extraordinary amount of depth to their characters, that keeps you genuinely engaged in where the plot will go with them
and the art is probably the best its been, idw sonic continues to be a gift

So… When I first read this book, I thought it was the best book in the series, but, after reading it a few more times,I still think it’s an amazing book, but, I realized it got a little boring by the end. The art in this book is amazing. I do like how it kinda showed how much Surge hates Dr. Starline and how much she longed to be free from his control, while also giving Kit (Who’s one of my fav Sonic characters) a little more of the spotlight than he had in Vol. 13 Battle for the Empire. Surge’s deep trauma from Dr. Starline and Kit’s obsession to be with Surge and keep her happy does make the comic a little dark, but also a little sad.Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog Vol. 14: Overpowered is a really good comic that, while good, does get a bit boring.
