Rate this book
The Thyroid Alternative, written by Dr. Nikolas Hedberg, D.C., D.A.B.C.I. is a revolutionary book detailing the underlying causes of thyroid disorders and how to treat them naturally. 28 million Americans suffer from thyroid disease yet 90% of them are not treated adequately by conventional medicine. Dr. Hedberg clearly explains why one patient's thyroid disorder may have a completely different underlying cause from another. This book is a must for all of those suffering from thyroid disease and for health care practitioners who are managing patients with thyroid disease. Students in any healing arts program will also greatly benefit due to this book's educational capacity. Patients no longer have to live with thyroid-related symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, depression, cold hands and feet, hair loss, constipation and sleep problems.

This book is a little different from those I've read in the past in that it shows there are many different reasons for thyroid dysfunction besides a faulty thyroid gland and the answer to restoring your health isn't always medication. If this is your first thyroid book it will seem a bit technical but it also has good resources that you can refer back to for further research or application to your specific needs. Even though the Kindle edition is flawed overall I think it is still a good investment of useable information at $2.99.

The Thyroid Alternative by Nikolas R. Hedberg. Wish I had read this book years ago when I first found out about a Thyroid disorder. The Author tries to let the reader know that there are many reasons for Thyroid dysfunction. Many are our hormones and even our life styles and diets. If your blood results come back with hyperthyroid or hypothyroid talk to your doctor about foods to avoid and the benefits of taking the different medications.

I've read several books on natural thyroid care so there was not a lot a lot of new info here for me. It did remind me that adrenal support is very important ( lots of sleep, adaptogen herbs, unprocessed salt etc.) my more specific questions he seems to skim over with ' see your natural health care physician', which is the bottom line of this book.

This is a decent little read that really spells out what the thyroid is, what it does and how it all goes wrong.

There isn't anything overly helpful in regards to treatments but it does provide a positive outlook unlike a lot of the doom and gloom out there

Poor formatting made this book a very difficult read. Also, the depth and breadth of information made it hard to follow and pull what I wanted/need to know about the thyroid. TMI.
