great insight into the works of the City - a very good place to start if you are interested in becoming a commercial lawyer - not just in London, but in other places in the world as well.

My job is selling news to the financial markets rather than participating in them and as such I’m peripherally aware of the market participants do and how they make their money but I lack the actual detail and this book helped in that regard.
It’s a good starting point for many who wish to know more about how the markets work and seems to choose the right places to go into more detail.

A very basic but comprehensive introduction to the murky world of finance. I was recommended this book whilst I was looking to sell my soul and found it highly practical. Stoakes is equipped with the knowledge and skill to guide the most ignorant of layman through the financial structure in the UK, using interesting analogies and examples to help the reader understand concepts.
