David has written a compelling call to anyone who is unclear about how God has called them to fulfill the purposes He has for them and for their lives. David addresses all aspects of how we are gifted and equipped to serve the calling God has placed on our lives, and he identifies the obstacles to us fulfilling our purpose.

I did feel, at times, that David took a little too much liberty in applying the truth of Scripture (perhaps making it mean "more" than what was intended by the author of Scripture). I do think we alll do this, but I found myself desiring more carefulness about that from the author.

Regardless, the strength of the book is in its constant reminders about who we are in Christ, that His purposes for us are greater than we can imagine. I was so pleased too see David reference my favorite Scripture:

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which were prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

Most interesting and enlightening to me was to hear David's voice as a follower of Jesus, and as someone whose faith was formed in a different environment. Where my tradition (Christian Reformed) would maybe not resonate with calls to "greatness" in the way that David expresses it, it is clear that this call is attractive to persons from different faith traditions. While many tradition does not deny the possibility of 'greatness,' we would be more likely to de-emphasize it in favor of fostering/valuing humility. The conclusion someone from my tradition would reach is that greatness ought not be pursued, but we are now into semantics, because the greatness David describes is simply the "the journey toward becoming who God has called you to become and doing what you were born to do" (p. 205).
