Found this in a box of books from when I was a teenager. Evidently I liked it enough then to keep it for decades. Now I question my taste back then.
In fairness, this may have received a different rating closer to publication. Now, however, the story is so dated - the plot 'twists' artificial or not fleshed out - the characters are sketched so broadly, including the main character - it's hard to believe in the choices.
The most plausible and well written (with 2014 eyes) are his visits to the police station and hospital.

Dave thinks he loves his best friend's girl, Susan, even though all he knows about her is that she thinks she's gorgeous. Bad things happen. He realizes his mistake and grows as a person. The end.
