Beautiful artworks of a technologically ravaged 1990s with a series of explanatory paragraphs it follows teenage girl Michelle's and her robot, Skip, on a journey to the West Coast of the United States in search of her long-lost brother. Meanwhile there's a secondary plotline follows a federal agent tracking down her brother. It's a distinct style. I like it.
It feels like a quiet road trip through a broken, retro-future America, told mostly through haunting, beautiful art. The story is sparse and mysterious, but the mood does all the heavy lifting. Listed to this on Spotify, and was able to look at the images that are part of the physical book. I had to listen more then once , as the images are not numbered so it was not as easy to track. Also wanted to read this as I was hearing so much about the poor adaptation Netflix was doing . It's a dark story. The images are creepy , yet beautiful. I enjoyed the story just not sure how much it will stick with me.
