This is the first Bible study books that I've completed from Elizabeth George and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Humility, as the title points out, is the overall theme of the book's lessons. Through following the life of Mary, readers learn how to display humility in various aspects of their lives, as well as how to make godly choices that ultimately honor God. The lessons mainly focus on passages from Luke, but also contain passages from the three other gospels as well as the book of Acts. A good study guide for individual or group use.
Ends at 80% I realize this was looking at the life of Mary, but I don't feel it lived up to it's title. I was hoping it would show how to have humility but rather it was an indepth study of Mary. First book of hers I've been disappointed in.
I very much enjoyed the content of this study and found it very useful to use for a daily Bible study. A few of the lessons seemed a bit repetitive, but overall it was a very good study on humility, and I believe it gave me a deeper understanding of Mary. I started this during the Christmas season, and I really enjoyed concentrating on Mary during that time. It put a different spin on Christmas for me.
We just completed this book in Sunday school, discussing a chapter each week. It was excellent for that purpose, easy read, easy preparation with question, but it was 'light.' There were often good quotes, a favorite for me, and occasional new information to consider. Our movement away from humility is shown: "the clenched fist has replaced the bowed head."
