Pros: I loved the glimpse into the inner-life of Edwin Booth, one of the greatest actors of all time (and often bandied about as the greatest American actor of all time). He had a wit with his friends and family, and he was unflinchingly devoted and tender toward his daughter, concerned with her well-being and upbringing at all costs.

Cons: I think the only con would be that I wished Edwina (his daughter) had elaborated more on the people he mentioned in his letters. I understand why she didn't, though, given these names were surely names people of her time would recognise instantly without necessitating elaboration.
