Happiness and success are goals we all strive for. But how do we achieve these goals, and how do we protect ourselves if we fail? The answer lies within the power of the mind.

Dr. Joseph Murphy, one of the world's best—known authorities on the power of the subconscious mind, shows readers not only how to unleash this power, but how to harness it and effectively use it to change their lives. Fully updated to reflect the sensibilities of the 21st century, this revised edition of a self—help classic is the key to overcoming the psychological barriers that stand in the way of greater material, spiritual, and emotional wealth.

(Arabic: جوزيف ميرفي)
Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.

Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.

In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.

This is another great book by Joseph Murphy. I had borrowed it from the library, but I’ve now requested it for my birthday, since it’s a book I have to own.

It is Murphy’s basic tenet that it is our birthright to be rich. But we create what we focus on, so instead of focussing on what we lack, we need to focus on wealth. Throughout the book, he provides us with many case histories of people who have become wealthy and successful by using his affirmative prayers and meditations.

If you’re bogged down by problems, he suggests this prayer:

“Divine wisdom and Divine right action of my subconscious, solve this problem. I release the matter and let it go.”

We should repeat the following affirmation for five minutes night and morning:

“I am now writing in my subconscious mind the idea of God’s wealth. God is the Source of my supply and all my needs are met at every moment of time and point of space. God’s wealth flows freely, joyously, and ceaselessly into my experience, and I give thanks for God’s riches forever circulating in my experience.”

When thoughts of lack come to you such as “I can’t afford that trip” or “I can’t pay that bill”, reverse the thought immediately by affirming “God is my instant and everlasting supply, meeting that need right now.”

The book is not just about how to improve one’s finances but also improving one’s relationships, health and resolving any conceivable problems.

He informs us that even if we spend five minutes in the morning and evening affirming prosperity but at the same time think and talk about our financial problems, etc, all day, we will not make any progress financially.

He tells us we should never underestimate the powers of personally affirming God to be our instant and everlasting supply that never fails.

Murphy also gives us a valuable exercise we can do which will bring us love and riches. (It also healed one of his clients of tuberculosis.) For every person you pass, affirm “God’s love fills your soul. The riches of God are yours now.”

We are also gifted with a prayer to banish anxiety over debts.

“God is the source of my supply. – The money I now possess is magnified and multiplied a thousandfold. --- I turn to the Infinite Presence within, knowing in my heart and soul it opens the way for me to pay all my debts, leaving me a vast surplus. I surrender a list of all these debts in the hands of my Heavenly Father, and I give thanks they are all paid in Divine order. God’s riches are circulating in my life, and I rejoice and am exceedingly glad that every creditor is paid now, and God prospers me beyond my fondest dreams. ---“

In fact, the book is filled to the brim with valuable prayers that can be used to solve multifarious problems.

This is an amazing, wonderful book, which provides the reader with invaluable support for all the problems one might have, and I now hope to receive my own copy in the post, perhaps tomorrow.

I loved the meditations at the end of each chapter, the overload of powerful verses of the Bible in each and every chapter. So many good affirmations/prayers between the stories about people who shared specific situations with the author. I didn't like that many titles of the chapters have nothing to do with what he talks about and I felt that at the end of the book it was mostly about stories and not as deep as the the first half of the book. This book is focused on the idea of abundance in all areas of your life and not only money. In his other book "Your infinite power to be rich" he talks more specially about getting rich

Once you've read a bit, you've read it all. Filled with social accounts, which I know are meant to serve as proof of the theory in action, but for someone who already buys into the theory (that your subconscious mind has the power to change your life), reading personal accounts of individuals is tiring. Made it to page 79 (out of 206) by this being the only book I had with me on a plane ride, but definitely calling it here. Content is good, but it could've been a 20-page book if they stuck to theory alone, which I understand the author wouldn't have wanted to do.

Absolutely amazing book in all ways! I am completely inspired and influenced by it's direct relations to religion, affirmations, and positive mindset in getting us all to our rightful place. I have chosen a few meditations for myself and over the span of a month, I received two checks out of nowhere totally unexpected. We absolutely are what we think so we must keep our thoughts and actions good.

This is the second book in the subconscious mind series that I have read. I feel like the author is repeating the same things over and over again. Only the context is changed. If you've read any of the books in this series before, then you must know that this is exactly the same thing, a repeat.

It can be a little repetitive if you already read Neville or similar authors, but the affirmations are nice and specific for different things like business, so it can be useful if you want some affirmations.

Written by a counsellor which has fairly religious undertones.
If your dominant conviction is that you are entitled to all the good things of life, such as health, wealth, love, true expression, and the abundant life, you will experience these accordingly. On the other hand, if you feel that you are destined to be poor and that the good things of life are not for you, you are placing yourself in want, lack, frustration, and self-imposed bondage.
Remember, your thoughts have power; they are creative. Every thought you initiate tends to manifest itself, except if it is neutralized by a more powerful thought of greater intensity.

Suggests to follow this procedure to never want for money:
1. Reason it out in your mind that God, or the Life-Principle, is the Source of the universe, the galaxies in space, and everything you see, whether you look at the stars in the sky, the mountains, the lakes, the deposits in the earth and sea, or all animals and plants It is as easy for God to become wealth in your life as it is for Him to become a blade of grass.
2. Decide now to engrave in your subconscious mind the idea of wealth. Ideas are conveyed to the subconscious by repetition, faith, and expectancy.
3. Repeat the following affirmation for five minutes night and morning: I am now writing in my subconscious mind the idea of God’s wealth. God is the Source of my supply, and all my needs are met at every moment of time and point of space. God’s wealth flows freely, joyously, and ceaselessly into my experience, and I give thanks for God’s riches forever circulating in my experience.
4. When thoughts of lack come to you, such as, “I can’t afford that trip” or “I can’t pay that bill,” never finish a negative statement about finances. Reverse it immediately in your mind by affirming, “God is my instant and everlasting supply, and that bill is paid in Divine order. Make friends with money, and you will always have it.”

Look upon money as God’s idea, circulating among nations, maintaining economic health. Claim that money is circulating in your life, and your subconscious will see to it that you have all the money you need.
Don't think of money as a bad thing. Adopt a new attitude toward money, realizing you are entitled to be richly compensated for your work software engineer, came to consult me.

Attitude is everything, mentions someone who was recently divorced. “My own fault, I guess,” he added. “I’m just not very interesting. Neither is my life. I go to work, I go to the gym, I go to sleep. Then I get up the next day and do it again. Why would anybody want to share that, or even hear about it? That must be why I don’t have any friends—I bored them all to death.” Relates this to a computer system – if it gave the same result you would change it. Consider the idea that your thoughts are creative if you tell yourself you are boring and friendless, your negative thoughts actually compound the problem. Whatever we give attention to, the subconscious magnifies and multiplies in our experience. So in this example when his attitude was changed the person gained friends and a more interesting life.
Trust the Infinite Intelligence of your subconscious mind.

To aid visualizations:
Intuition means the direct perception of truth, independent of any reasoning process. It is an immediate apprehension, a keen and quick insight. The word “intuition” also means “inner hearing”. Intuition goes much farther than reason. You employ reason to carry out intuition. Very often you will find that intuition is the opposite of what your reasoning would have told you.

The conscious mind of man is reasoning, analytical, and inquisitive; the subjective faculty of intuition is always spontaneous. We must listen and learn to heed this inner voice of wisdom. Note this does not always speak to you when you wish it to do so, but it will when you need it.

Will finish with an example of the religious undertones included in this book: “I am unique; there is no one in all the world like me, because God never repeats Himself. God is my Father and I am His child. God loves me and cares for me. Any time I am prone to criticize or find fault with myself, I will immediately affirm: I exalt God in the midst of me."

As a reader of success books, I felt compelled to read the works by Joseph Murphy. As with many of this genre of books, there are religious elements throughout. The key for any religion reading these books(I am a Christian) is not to suspend your core beliefs but use them as the foundation for what you are reading.

The key concept is that wealth and worthiness are not mutually exclusive or diametrically opposed. He explains that as a creation made after the image of God, we have great creative power through thoughts, words and divine action. There is a focus on the sub-conscious mind and how we gain access to brilliant ideas and perfect action through imagination and focused thought.

Meditation exercises are encouraged to bring thoughts created through the conscious mind into "captivity" to allow the subconscious mind to change conditions through positive thought and imagery. As an author of sales and success books, I believe in the concepts and he gives simple, sound advice on using these techniques.

He uses real word testimonies that give the reader a chance to correlate the teachings to their own lives.

The value of this books and others (by Murphy and various authors) is that they resonate with us and the innate abilities we have as human beings. Like the title "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, the name is misleading. We all desire/need material possessions and that is healthy until the drive for things becomes higher than the desire for service to mankind...again...those are not in opposition and Murphy addresses that in this book.

Good supportive reading for those already schooled in success principles, but would not be my first choice for those new to the genre.

This book is loaded with positive affirmations. It's "mind over money" and "the power of death & life is in the tongue." In the book, there are plenty of examples of people who have changed their thoughts and changed their words and became prosperous. Why not try some of the techniques and see what happens?

this book has taught me the art of affirmations as prayer, and vice versa, to be in a constant state of gratitude and acknowledgement of the abundance God is willing and promises to give those who are grateful for it.

A typical theosophical magical thinking treatise on how to accumulate "riches". Why in the world do people believe this stuff?

“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” ― George Carlin

Read again in 2024 - still mumbo jumbo bs....
