If ever proof was needed that one can be a lousy writer and produce a bestseller, several bestsellers it seems, this is it. I think it's probably the worst example of commercial fiction I've ever read. There's a cliche on every page (only one if you're lucky). The characterisation is really original - it's all about how much a man weighs and his height. The Americans are all supermen and superwomen (of course!). The Israeli Zionists are good guys (naturally). Moslems are all bad. Hamas and Hezbollah are especially evil. This is fictional Trumpery at its worst. I held my nose and reached page 89. Straight into the recycling bin. No, I didn't buy it new. I'm not that stupid. The cover says the author has one eye on Lee Child's action thriller throne, but I'm sure Lee Child can rest easy. He's in no danger at all.
2nd reading and well worth it. Engaging cast and plot. You can count on Vince Flynn for an exciting and well-paced ride. Excitingly narrated by Daniel Oretski (sp? ) Highly recommended.
