A very good book; there is a deeper meaning within the fast paced triller. It has encouraged me to take a closer look at my faith in God & my relationship with him.

Mystery… Intrigue…. The Catholic Church… Good – vs - Evil

A scroll written by the Apostle John while exiled in Patmos 60 years after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The Guardian

During the first century, the apostle John, under the direction of God Himself, writes a message on a scroll. John then entrusts only his family to protect and guard it. It has been kept safe and hidden for many centuries. Now, as Thomas Riley lies dying, God sends the archangel Michael to summon his granddaughter Anna to his bedside. She is now the newest Guardian of the scroll.
Even though she has believed her grandparents died many years earlier, she heeds Michael’s words and immediately flies to Pennsylvania. But she is too late; he has passed away. Now, with no grandfather to enlighten her, Father Vin steps in. He tells her about the Apostle John, the scroll, the family history of guarding it, and the dangerous job ahead of her. She is the one to locate it…. before Lucifer does. Anna is the Guardian and Father Vin is her Protector.
With a private plane, her own bodyguards, and a safe house in London, Anna and Father Vin continue the journey her grandfather had begun. Following clues left by Thomas, they begin putting the pieces together, slowly and meticulously.

Yet none of this is easy or safe. They are being tailed by killers whose only desire is to be paid for the kill. Who wants them dead? Who will survive? Will they accomplish the task set before them? How high up in the Catholic Church does the deceit go? What is on the scroll? Can they break the riddle fast enough?

I loved this book! I was hooked in the first chapter!

This book became part of me. As I was reading, I wanted to know what happened next. If I wasn’t reading at the time, I was running the storyline through my mind for possible twists and turns in the plot, etc. I didn’t want to put it down! (Unfortunately, someone had to make dinner and teach!)

I look forward to reading more books from Robbie Cheuvront (with Eric Reed).

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I tried so hard to like this book but just couldn't get past the unbelievable situations, the simplistic dialogue, and the grammatical errors, Every time I tried to get into it, I got yanked back out by these issues. I got about 30% in and had to give up.

DNF - 1 star

I received a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion.

3.5 I feel like I was kinda just forcing myself to read this book most of the time. I don’t think it was the books fault tho bc the book was pretty good and I liked how it revolved around God and Anna’s testimony but bro why did literally everyone die 😭 like almost every single character died except like 3 or 4.

Also oh my gosh fricken Whickam was annoying me so much and it was just so sad knowing he was just falling into Lucifer’s trap

On a more serious note literally like Jason is the man of my dreams bro just the way he has such a strong faith with God and is always there for Anna and protecting her. Also I really want to know what happens to Jonathan and Remmy cause I ship them so much

Anyways this book was overall pretty decent I just feel like some stuff could have been left out.

I loved this book. Anna's journey is one that we all go through at one point in our lives. Anna was not saved when she accepted in the mission from God. As she takes this journey, she gets to learn about God and in the end, she accepts Jesus as her Lord and Savior.

Такое. Всех поубивали. Историю с киллером и рыжеволосой девушкой не закончили. Но есть очень умные религиозные истины. Хоть и написано пастором другой церкви, всё-равно хорошая мудрость на последних страницах.

This has the makings of a great read, but is also a little cheesy. It took a long time to build up, I feel like the ending was a bit rushed.
Not doctrinally sound, lol, but it was a fun book. Rated PG primarily for violence and demonic descriptions.

I sometimes wonder how books make it to print. You hear about rejections and the difficulties of a book company even seeing an unknown author's manuscript...much less reading it.

And then I read a book like THE GUARDIAN and I wonder if THAT'S just fiction. How did this book make it to print.

OK the story is interesting...the trigger events to Jesus' return....an interesting speculation....but the writing is horrible--reminiscent of freshmen (high school freshmen, that is) creative writing. There is no character development--nothing that makes me sympathetic to the main characters. Anna is a smart-mouthed tease...and I'm supposed to cheer her on? Jason, an unknown, becomes Anna's protector because...? Because he's a Baptist missionary? A young good-looking baptist missionary who is able to solve a riddle that has puzzled men for over 2000 years? I need a little more before I buy that one. Even the villains are one-dimensional...and so predictable.

The writing is ameteurish. Blatant telling and no showing. Overuse of the word "there." The authors need to learn how to use point-of-view. So often other tell the reader the thoughts inside another character's head...how does that happen? And the convenient staging...my favorite is found on pg 377, concerning the convenience of Anna and Jason wearing neoprene pants the occasion of their late night "swim." They had bought the pants "at a sporting good store in London, intending to workout as much as they could." The reader had not been told anything about the couple's desire to be workout buddies.

Who edited this book? The glaring writing mistakes are laughable. About 150 pages in, I had to start marking them:

pg 162 - "Jonathan never tried to contact Dieter after that. Word made it's way back to him that dieter held him responsible. Dieter thought he had sold him out. It took two years for the dust to settle. Jonathan finally tried talking to him." Hey, wait a minute...I thought Jonathan never tried to contact Dieter...

pg 172 - "By now [a technique I despise...using words like "now" to put the reader in the present tense when we are reading an account of something that has happened] the leg had gone numb. He had tied the tourniquet as tight as he could get it, and the circulation had been cut off. The pain was coming from his hip and back. With every step, a sharp knifelike stab shot through him." OK I get that this was excruciatingly painful...but how can a person have both numbness and pain? He'd been shot in the leg--what was causing the pain in the hip and back?

pg 266 (my favorite) - "Never in the history of his talking to that odious man had he heard a tone like the one he had just witnessed." Really--witnessing the audial? The spoken became visual? hmmmm...

There is a 7-page excerpt from Cheuvront and Reed's next book...but I have not desire to read it...or to spend $$--even purchasing from a deep discount bin as I did with THE GUARDIAN--to torture myself again.

It was a roller coaster of a book. Going from one country to another being chased by bad guys. It even got me crying in a couple of places.
It starts with John in Patmos Island Prison 60 years after the Crucifixion. When he got a scroll with a revelation on it that he had to hide from the world.
Then it goes New Orleans present day mardi gras Anna is with friends but she doesn't want to drink to excess like her friends so she is going to walk by herself to hotel. She sees a boy in ally and he calls her by name and tell her to go home now. Where she needs to talk to her grandfather who is in hospital. She knows her grandparents have been dead for years. But her father had lied to her.
When she gets to the hospital her grandfather had just died Father Vincent is their he is making plans to ship her grandfather to rome.
He convinces her to accept a ride home in a private plane that is hers now. He tells her that her grandfather has had a duty to protect the scroll and solve it. That she is direct decented from John for 2000 years her family has protected its where abouts. That only 4 people know where and what she will be doing and one of them is the Pope.
Anna has a hard time believing him but she had met the boy who knew so much about her. She wants to talk to her parents and see why they have lied to her for all these years. While talking to her parents she makes up her mind to find the scroll and finsh her grandfathers work.
Turns out she is now rich and she is led on to many different countries to find the scroll and the key to unlock it.
Thier is a group with Satan at lead that wants the scroll for the power it will give them. One is a Cardinall who is over another group of ones who dont observe thier beliefs and want power. They even go so far as plan to murder the Pope and put one of their own in charge.
Anna has 3 people with her plane at all times that she can trust if she justs see one or two she not get on. She is also given 4 passports with different names on them to help keep her safe.
Thier are murders following where ever she goes trying to get the scroll everyone around her is at great risk but they know Its for a rightous cause.
Jason becomes her Protector who is supposed to keep her safe and help her find the answers she needs.
The angel Micheal even makes appearance to them.
It is well written plot with a different ending.
Did not want to put the book down till I had finshed reading it. I was given this ebook in exchange for honest review. Highly recommend if you want action.

From Goodreads: Plunge into the world of seen and unseen forces in The Guardian. Anna Riley has just come into possession of a two-thousand-year old scroll that God gave to John the Disciple. Her mission—to guard the scroll and unlock its secret. Jason Lang, her protector, has his work cut out for him as they begin their journey around the world, facing corruption and dodging bullets—all the while trying to keep his attraction to Anna at bay. Will he succeed in defending the woman he’s vowed to protect? Will Anna, forced to trust other people to stay alive, fulfill the challenge that she’s accepted?

I received this ARC from the publisher through NetGalley. The first thing I was reminded of when I sat down to read this was that the book was remniscent of The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons with a little more reflection on faith and God. I loved how it incorporated all of the historical and biblical factors with a little bit of suspense and chase! I was able to learn something new about the bible and get completely engrossed in the story. It was fast paced and very easy to read. I thought it was beautifully written. The balance between description and action was key. I didn't feel like I wanted to skip ahead because of a lot of boring details. I read every word and couldn't put it down because I had to see what was going to happen next.

Overall, it was a great story that had me smiling (with goosebumps) at the end. I was able to fall in love with Anna and Jason as well as the security team. (Without major spoilers, I was a little sad at some of the events-because I was so invested in the characters, I didn't want to see anything bad happen to them) The character development was top notch as well as the story. In reading it, I began questioning my own faith. What would I have done in Anna's situation? Would I have been too afraid to trust?

I also liked how the author didn't really talk about what happened to the "Pope"...he left it to interpretation. Usually, that sort of thing would annoy me, but in this case, I think it was beautifully done and everyone kind of figures out what happens. This would definitely be a novel I would recommend to my friends and family.

We all know about profound artifacts that humans have possessed at some point in the Bible. There has been the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God, the staff of Moses which allowed him to part the waters of the Red Sea and of course the famous Ark of the Covenant which was kept in the Holy of Holies where it is said the Mercy Seat of God dwelt. The most amazing thing is that none of them have ever been recovered.

Now one more piece of the Bible archive is about to be searched for, the scroll of John, the disciple of Jesus who wrote the book of Revelation. For centuries, descendants of John have been entrusted to care and keep the scroll from the enemies of God that would seek to recover it and rule over the world. Now the only person left as Anna Riley, who has recently discovered by an encounter with an angel what her mission is in helping to locate the missing scroll.

Armed with a team of people who have sworn to protect her at the cost of their own lives, she alone with one God has appointed as her Guardian, Jason Lang, will now use what they have at their disposal to find the scroll and guard it with their lives. Along the way, they will have angelic help to keep the armies of Satan from finding it first.

In the novel, The Guardian by Robbie Cheuvront and Erik Reed, we are taken on a journey like Indiana Jones, and recovering the mysteries of the book of Revelation to locate the lost scroll of John. The only thing these two people will have on their side is their faith in God alone which will guide them through the darkness as well as protect them from the enemies of the underworld.

I received this book compliments Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for my honest review. I loved it. You get to see a battle on two fronts between good versus evil in both the seen and unseen realms. This is believable and have often wondered about some interesting questions that the book brings up and makes me wonder if it does really all exist just outside of where we have been searching. Great faith builder and asks the question just how far are you willing to go for your faith in Christ? I highly give this book a 5 out of 5 stars for exceptional historical fiction with a biblical twist.

THE GUARDIAN
By Robbie Cheuvront with Erik Reed

When the Apostle John received the Revelation from God 2,000 years ago he also received a scroll that he and his descendants have been guarding ever since. It is into this world that Anna Riley, the newest Guardian and Jason Lang, her protector have been drawn. It is a world of treachery and danger that could cost them their very lives and the lives of those closest to them.

But to secure the scroll and the secret it hides they must first discover the clues and riddles left for them by Anna’s grandfather. In a race against time and the human disciples of Lucifer they must cross oceans and continents to prevent Lucifer from gaining control of the Papal seat of power.

But the journey Anna is on is also a journey of the soul. What does she believe in and where does she place her faith? Who is Anna Riley? As Jason and others aid her in her quest they also open her eyes to the plan and purpose God has for each of us. We must all play our part in His plan. It is only when we put our total trust and faith in Him and die to the world that we realize our full potential.

Over the centuries many have attempted to steal the scroll in their quest for power and dominion, but Anna and Jason discover the truth. The scroll has no power in and of itself. The true power lies in the words, the truth given by Jesus to the Apostle John.

“To him that has ears, let him hear”

Anna and Jason’s quest leads them back to the beginning. Before sin began there was God’s perfect created world and it is to this place that the truth of the scroll takes them. Can they reach their final destination before it is too late?

The Guardian is an exciting page turner with a valuable lesson in faith. Where will your faith take you in your life journey?

At the end of the book are discussion questions to help you examine your own life.

The description of this book in the Goodreads giveaways sounded interesting and I was pleased that I won the giveaway.

When I began reading, I first became worried that it was going to be amd extremist Christian novel. But then it hooked me and was a very excellent adventure story in vein of The DaVinci Code. There was a good cast of characters, mystery, chases, evil trying to take over the world.

Then the book took another turn and I became a bit worried when they brought in the Baptist missionary, but the adventure continued. However, there started to be loose ends and many of our core characters were disappearing and changing focus. A lot of things they had laid down in the beginning, which I thought had been for the purpose of using them at the end, never reappeared.

At the beginning of the book and according to the title Anna Riley is the Guardian of the secret. Her grandfather spent his life working for the Vatican guarding this thing and trying to decipher it. In the beginning she is a strong independent character that does her duty admirably. By the end of the book, the ony core characters left now all know the secret and the male Baptist missionary is the one to decipher it.

I may have given this book five stars if I shared their beliefs when they went off the deep end at the conclusion. It turned into a preachy fundamentalist Christian view that left the Catholic Church in the hands of Satan and dove into the "left behind" pool.

I would strongly recommend the first 300 pages as an excellent adventure mystery story but would warn those without fundamentalist views that the story is not wrapped up very well and will probably leave you unsatisfied.

I am so happy I finally finished this book, so sorry it took me so long, but it was worth it to really enjoy it. I will like to first thank Robbie Cheuvront and Erik Reed and Goodreads for allowing me to enjoy this book, I was a winner of this first read giveaway. Thank You! This book is amazing, when I read the first chapter, it kinda of scared me and I wasn't sure what this book was truely about. But this book is filled with action, thrills, even had me crying at some parts, but this book was a true page turner. It is a must read! Anna has been chosen to continue the work of protecting an ancient scroll from God. Anna is the descendent of John the Baptist who was given the scroll by an angel of God telling him he must protect it and it is for him to decipher the riddle. This scroll has been passed down for many generations with the clues to what the answer of the riddle could be. Anna is not safe she is up against Satan who has been trying to get his hands on it for many generations. Satan has people who he has minipulated and who fear him do his work on getting their hands on the scroll. This is an amazing story, you never can foretell what will happen next or where Anna will go following the clues that were left by her Grandfather. Anna and Jason can't trust noone on this amazing task, many will die because of this scroll. The ending was so awesome and beautiful, even if you are not religious this book is packed with action and thrills. As well as how good God is and how much you should fear or rejoice when the day comes, or just the fact to even believe what if.........

Anna Riley is in possession of a 2,000 year old scroll, passed on from generation to generation from the apostle John. When she is appointed the guardian of the priceless scroll, she sets out on a perilous journey to unlock the secrets of the parchment.

With her protector, Jason Lang, they travel the world, hunting down the answer to the seemingly impossible riddle. Armed with the scant knowledge of her ancestors and a determination to see her mission through, she faces corruption and dodges catastrophe at every turn. Will she unlock the secrets the scroll has to offer? Or will unseen forces ultimately win the battle of good verses evil?

Religious thrillers are a dime a dozen, but this one caught my interest with it's straightforward writing, and true biblical roots. While the storyline is fiction, quite a few events are true history, even to the non-Christian world. I appreciated the lack of lovey dovey dribble, yet there was still a subtle romantic undercurrent between Anna and Jason. It was tasteful and didn't choke up the story, and I enjoyed seeing the beginnings to a romantic relationship from the guys' point of view.

The book took so many grand twists and turns, leaping out at me with it's adventures and mysteries. I stayed up half the night, willing the book to not kill off anyone important and breathlessly reading as fast as possible to find the outcome. If you like unique, Christian suspense/thriller then this is the book for you! Definitely authors to watch, and two guys that clearly didn't get the recognition they deserve for this amazing work of word art.

"Faith, Mercy, Promise"

Anna Riley is a young woman celebrating Mardi Gras when her life suddenly changes. A little boy meets her on her way back to the hotel and gives her information that makes her fly immediately to Pittsburgh. From that moment on, Anna's life moves quickly as she becomes the Guardian of the scroll God gave to John on Patmos. She needs to find the scroll and decifer it, finishing the work of her grandfather. With the help of Father Vin, Jason Lang, Nick, Hale, and Marie, Anna jets around the world in search of the scroll. But, as usual, there is a team of evil doers anxious to thwart her attempts. Who is the little boy Anna met and what role does he play in the story? Will Cardinals Wickham and McCoy find a way to gain the power in Rome? Will Anna and Jason find the way to make it through the losses that come through their search? Are you on the winning side of this battle? This information and much more is held within the pages of this fast-paced, well-written novel!

This book was "unputdownable" for me! From the moment I started reading, I was on the journey with Anna. I felt her successes and her losses. The story is well written and the characters seem real. The Epilogue was a thrilling point of expectation and promise for me! I recommend this to all readers. Groups will find discussion questions at the end with many other points of discussion throughout the book. Thank you to Net Galley for the copy I read on my Nook. This is a book I will buy and give as gifts.

(We received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.)

This book reminded me strongly of The DaVinci Code, except I actually enjoyed this book. A lot.

I loved the "historical" aspect of this entire story. John the Disciple is given a scroll (rather, he pukes it up) from God and has to protect it. It thus passes down John the Disciple's descendants and they spend their lives guarding the scroll.

Anna is next in line to protect the scroll (although she doesn't know it at first). She finds out a lot about the reality of her world as she delves deeper into the role of protecting the scroll.

The story was chock full of action and I found myself becoming anxious while reading it because I was afraid for the characters. A few parts of the story I had to keep my mouth shut because I wanted to yell, "Don't you know they're coming!? RUN!"

But I figured that probably would sound weird because I read this on an airplane.

The only part of the story I didn't care for was the parts where it got preachy about being saved. However, I feel this is due in fact because I am not religious whatsoever. However, those parts were part of the author's story and it did make sense to have it in there. I just felt like the preachiness was a bit long.

That said, I would DEFINITELY recommend this book!

In The Guardian, agnostic Anna Riley discovers that God created her with a special purpose: to guard the scroll that the apostle John received on the island of Patmos 2,000 years ago. The scroll holds a powerful secret and the forces of evil, led by the mysterious Prince, will stop at nothing to steal it. What follows is a riveting thriller that will take the reader across Europe, to North and South America, and into the holy lands.

I found this book to be exceptional. I couldn’t put it down. First-time authors Robbie Cheuvront and Erik Reed wove a suspenseful story around biblical truth. The characters are well-developed and the story is very well-written. I found myself identifying quickly with the characters and truly being immersed in the story. I laughed when they laughed, and I cried when they cried. I love how the authors emphasized the importance of faith in God without getting preachy. I was also pleased by how “clean” the story was.

I encourage you to read this book if you like suspense. Just make sure that you have time to read it all in one sitting.

Summary:

This story is full of actions, running from one place to another. After Anna had accepted the duty from her grandfather, to complete the task from God, her life was no longer same. Within few days, she had to run away from the bad people and witnessed death, and more death along the journey. She learnt to trust and have faith in God, on completing this task. What made me sad is, why so many good people have to die. And many times, I was very worry for Anna when the bad people were catching up on her.

I enjoy the Christian values that was being presented throughout the whole book. The pace is good. The story also flows smoothly. I feel the ending was a bit rush, nonetheless it's a good book. I enjoy reading it very much.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

It was difficult for me to assign a rating to this book, the first written by a pair of young pastors. On the one hand I would like to congratulate them on their efforts and encourage them. On the other hand, I feel as though I should be honest and tell them they have a long way to go before their writing is as compelling and masterful as the bestsellers in this genre (whether Christian-based or not). Therefore, I chose a middle-of-the-road three stars because there were some great, original ideas here and some decent action/adventure along with a fairly solid conspiracy/power struggle for ultimate control thing going on. Unfortunately, some of the writing was very immature ( the heroine's use of the term "Dude!" comes to mind) and there was more than a hint of some of Dan Brown's work with a little Indiana Jones and National Treasure thrown in to beef things up. The characters, for the most part, were more caricatures without substance and in places where believable explanations needed to be included, all too often things just happened to suddenly appear to make the scene/passage work.

Again, I try to be more of an encourager usually, so to these budding authors I say progress, mature and continue; I believe there are much better efforts in your future!

I went into this book hoping for another The Da Vinci Code. The Guardian was good, but not quite what I was looking for, not quite up to the standards I was expecting. The mystery/suspense of finding the lost scroll was really interesting, I was just hoping for a little more historical/religious facts. I did like the intrigue surrounding the Pope and his Cardinals. I actually felt a little sad to think that such corruption exists. I hope it is not like that in real life.

The writing style of the book reminded me of the Left Behind series. At times the dialog seemed a little forced. The characters I was most intrigued by were Hale and the rest of the airplane flight crew. I would have like to seen more of them in the book. I felt the budding romance between Anna and Jason was a little too expected. They both seemed like people who had not had a lot of life experience, and at times their naivety was annoying.

The book was good, but not great. I am glad that I got a free copy of this.

Wow!
This book was not what I expected. It was better. So much better.
With all the 'scroll', 'end times' and 'bible code' books floating around these days, I told myself this novel was probably going to be just another one of the cheap, bad Da Vinci code knockoffs, except with a Christian spin...
Hah! I'm now eating my words and they are delicious!
This book is similar to the Da Vinci code in that, there is a mystery to be solved, bad people to run from, action, international chases, and thrills galore to keep you turning the pages. All 448 of them. You won't want to stop once you start. A thought provoking Christian themed read, so you won't find bad language and smut, just a fast-paced, glued to your seat read. You can't go wrong with this one.

**Contains A 2 chapter sneak peek at the next book which is
'Coming Fall 2012 From Robbie Cheuvront and Erik Reed,
"The 13: Fall"'!
(This one starts out with a bang guys. Should be another exciting, can't put down read from these two).

*Happily won this book through the GoodReads First Reads Program. Thank you Shalyn and Barbour Books for making it possible for me to read and review this book.

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. I burned through half the book in a day, and finally got to the point of wanting to through it through the window. It is essentially marketed as a similar entry of the DaVinci Code-Angels and Demons genre, however it was a pitiful attempt at that. I knew I should have realized what I was in for when I noticed that all the chapters are merely 2-4 pages long! The writing is that of a 14 year old high school freshman getting their feet wet in creative writing. The main character is as naive as they come and the authors expect you to buy into the fact that all of the characters are as shallow and undeveloped as they seem to try and make them be. That does not qualify for a good read. I didnt go into this expecting to read a fine piece of literature, in all actuality I was expecting to read a fun popcorn novel built on fun, suspense, and mystery. Instead what I got was a tiring piece of chrisitian literature trying to make a run at a Dan Brown classic.
