I had high hopes for this book as omg it started out soooooooo good! Midway through I was like WTAF am I reading? It went off the rails quickly lol! But I skimmed through to the end.
Though the concept of the story has a lot of potential, the book didn't quite live up to my expectations.
The character of Amber is very likeable and well written. She has her charming quirks and individuality, and of course, there is a crucial romantic decision to be made.
The setting is great. I don't think there is a better place to read about with this miserable weather we've been having than Tahiti. The description of the locations alone make for an interesting read.
The boyfriend, Hugh, didn't really develop as a character in my opinion. He is portrayed as a very steady and reliable guy, but isn't given depth. We don't learn anything about his quirks or likes. I feel like he merely functions as a background for Amber's endless doubting and questioning about which guy to choose.
The ending is good. Without giving anything away, I will say that everyone ends up with the person they're supposed to be with, which is always satisfying.
Wow, all I could think of when I read this book is how much I want to go to Tahiti! As usual, Belinda's descriptions of exotic locations have a way of transforming you there; you can almost imagine you're on a sun-drenched beach instead of rainy England (well, that's where I was when I read this novel!)
Amber is a likeable character; she goes through a bit of inner turmoil in this book and I don't blame her. The story centres on her and her friend Felicity while they are on a trip to the island of Tahiti. Amber has a boyfriend, Hugh, but she finds herself unexplainably drawn to another man whilst she is out there. The book centres on Amber's visit and then return to England and what happens after that. Obviously being a chick-lit book, we can predict the ending, but it's a funny romantic comedy that kept me smiling all the way through.
Standard chick lit which I do enjoy at times...this got knocked down a star as I saw the twist coming from the earliest possible moment to see the twist coming...and I'm not that clever, so it must have been ragingly obvious.
Really enjoying yet another great read from Belinda (being a Kiwi love to see our lovely NZ mentioned). Has Belinda been here as she seems to know little snippets that only a Kiwi would know or someone who has visited?? What I have learned "love the one youre with" ;-)
I want get on a plane and go to Tahiti! It sounds beautiful! This is my first book by Belinda Jones, and it won't be my last. I enjoyed the story. Bits of it took me by surprise, while others didn't.
Actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I picked it up because I needed something to read while on a beach holiday (enjoyed the book more than the holiday). Interesting character development, but somewhat predictable for it.
Funny and more clever than I expected - and it's set in one of my all-time favourite places to visit. What's not to like about romance in the sunshine? Especially with a few twists thrown in. Would definitely recommend for others to read.
Belinda jones always writes laugh out loud books people in Corfu must think I'm mad as I try to stifle my laughing on the beach !!!! Excellent beach reads
