The Caballistics are attacked in London and forced to use powerful magic, which breaks The Accord - the pact that forbids the use of sorcery. They've been set up. Someone wants them out of the way, but why? The answer lies with doppelgangers of figures who are key to activating a British variation of the terracotta army. The doppelgangers are already retaking their places. A Golem invasion is imminent. To stop them, Caballisics, Inc must form unholy alliances with the dead of London and the shadowy organisation known as the Dark Parliament. London is about to become a war-zone...
Better The Devil is the 2nd novel in Mike Wild's Caballistics,INC series. I found this installment to be just as much fun and just as exciting as the first in the series, "Hell On Earth." I would recommend that anyone wanting to read these novels should do so in order due to the fact that even though they are separate tales, the first does provide a good introduction to each character and their "group", whereas number 2 just jumps straight into the action.
Mike Wild has a style of writing that is very easy to read and also fun, his little nods to modern culture are dashed throughout the book and provide the reader with a little chuckle from time to time. His ability to write action that rolls of the page just like the reader is watching a film is second to none and the humour is both enjoyable and very well timed throughout the story. The overall story is enjoyable and it is apparent the author has taken a lot of time to plot out the details and research "history" to make the read even more enjoyable.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the world of supernatural horror/comedy. (Think Hellboy in Novel form.)
Bargain book shop: not bad, fast paced. Being the second book and not read the first a few things got lost in the flow - but heh, not bad for a £1. I willlook out for the first one - but only if cheap
