I picked up this secret gem at my local thrift store and was pleasantly surprised! June Fleming's writing style is enjoyable to engage with, making The Well-Fed Backpacker a really quick read, and her recipes look delicious! I can't wait to try these out before my next backpacking trip. (I may even try some of them for my daily life to be honest - I'm looking at you, Russian tea & fruit soup!) I also feel much more informed about topics like winter camping and the hazards that come with it, as well as drying (or dehydrating) foods which I am really interested in. Can't wait to do some more reading to get even more in depth on these subjects. But as an overview covering the basics, this is definitely the book for you!
I enjoyed this book, but I'd like to see an updated version. This one's about 25 years old now. The recipes and general information are still good, but any talk of prices are way, way out of date and there are also new types of trail food readily available that weren't common back then. A section on food allergies would be helpful. But the book's useful as it is, with lots of recipes I want to try and tons of good information.
