Filming God recounts the three-year journey of filmmaker Darren Wilson as he travels around the world, seeing the supernatural realm of God with his own eyes and meeting humble, loving people who walk in the supernatural on an everyday basis. Author Darren Wilson was a self-described skeptic about the supernatural before he had his own lifechanging, miraculous encounter with the Lord. That experience led him to film Finger of God, through which he encountered incredible stories of modern-day believers receiving gold teeth, hanging out with Jesus, resurrections, supernatural healings, and much, much more. “A funny thing tends to happen when you hand your life over to God, no questions asked. He takes what you thought you wanted and shows you something better―something so much infinitely better that you can only marvel at how simple-minded your past dreams were,” writes the author, thinking back on his journey while Filming God. In these exciting and compelling stories, you will quickly realize that Jesus is alive and working today in people’s lives―no matter your religious background. You may be forced to examine your own faith in light of what is possible on a day to day basis.
"Filming God: A Journey from Skepticism to Faith" by Darren Wilson moved me deeply so much so, I struggle to describe what I've just read. This may, in fact, be my favorite book of those I read in 2014.
As a practicing continuationist, I've had a hard time understanding why so many Christians in the West, not only embrace cessationism but also seem to relish attacking continuationism, the gifts, Charismatics, and practically anyone who doesn't hold their view. It has left me seriously wondering had they been alive in the days of Jesus' earthly life if they would have sided with the religious leaders of His day and attributed His works to those of the devil. This book shed more light for me on why so many Christians are so very anti-miracles these days. As Mr. Wilson points out in this book from his own place of skepticism, it goes much deeper than just embracing a doctrine.
Besides that, I also enjoyed hearing more of the miraculous things God is doing these days as well as hearing about some incredibly powerful men of God. In this book, Darren shares his interactions with 4 of them and if anyone could ever truly claim to be "not religious but spiritual" these men could. Yet most of us don't know them and probably never will. They are demonstrating the kingdom of God in ways many wouldn't dare.
This book wasn't written by an overly-confident, slick Charismatic televangelist but rather by an honest believer who openly shared his struggles with believing God still does real, legitimate miracles today. Mr. Wilson was open to the place of great vulnerability and I applaud his courage to take such a risk. It inspires me to be more open as well. I'm sure his openness will help others who struggle believing God still does miracles. It will also encourage and challenge more of the church to begin to move in areas where she has been lacking to move.
This book is worth reading. I wish I could give everyone a copy.
I love all of Darren Wilson's documentary movies, so the book was a natural choice to learn more about how Darren was called to make these movies. The book did not disappoint, and many of the stories contained in the book are as good as the movies! I was so inspired by the amazing story of Darren's calling to make these movies, and I can't wait to see more!
Darren Wilson was skeptical about God doing miracles today, but came to believe and then started filming miraculous events. He's a decent writer and story teller and he tries to prove his credibility by making much of his skepticism, but I'm skeptical of his skepticism. Many of his stories were second and third hand, but he "trusted the persons" telling them.
This is another book that will confirm the beliefs of those who agree with him, but will not sway those who don't, so I'm not sure what the point is.
Fantastic book. Amazing stories of Gods work in people. Excellent opportunity for those looking to build their faith. There was an important story of a man from McDonals who just stepped out of his comfort zone in humility in regular life.
"The Kingdom of God is a place of UNITY. It is 'other' focused. It is motivated entirely by love and compassion, not pity or guilt. His Kingdom is not interested in controlling people or God. It simply makes itself available, free of obligation. It is not motivated by the number of people who walk through the door. Of course, I have also observed that that whenever God is allowed to really move, and when His Kingdom is at the center of everything and the Holy Spirit is the Guide, growth is usually explosive. People around the world, in every culture respond to the same thing - LOVE."
So when our Western focused remains on things like the biggest buildings, the biggest crowds, the "hottest" worship, and the like, then we are really missing the point.
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing - the Kingdom!!
Have you seen the documentaries Finger of God and/or Furious Love? This is the background to these dvd's. It explains why Darren filmed all the outrageous miracles. He shares about the journey he's been on for these films and who some of the people are and their stories too. It makes the films WAY more enjoyable!!! I think you get way more out of the films knowing some of the history.
If you've ever watched the videos that Darren Wilson has produced and wondered how much of it was real, and how much was made up, or if he even believed what he was filming, this is a fantastic insight to what was going on during the films! Mr. Wilson even goes into further detail behind meeting those in his films, and shared stories of being on the road while doing these projects.
