A mouse looks for words embedded in longer words. So while he rides a "train" it starts to "rain."

I guess this is a phonics thing?

It's a boring, repetitive story -- also a phonics thing? -- that didn't do much for my daughter when she was three.

Mouse's Hide-and-Seek Words is a fun rhyming book. Anytime you can add in a little game to the reading process, it helps liven the spirits of my reluctant readers. However, I do wish the words were a little more actually hidden on the page so my son could actually search for them. They were way too obvious to be considered real hide-and-seek, and I think that bummed him out alittle. In the beginning, he read the sentences and then re-read the words that were "hidden." But by the end of Mouse's Hide-and-Seek Words he'd given up on re-reading the "hidden" words. He thought a couple of the illustrations and sentences were funny. Even though most pages only included one short sentence, it still felt like it took us forever to get through this book. That isn't a reflection of the book or my son's reading level. It's a reflection of him being easily distracted.

Mouse's Hide-and-Seek Words uses rhyming words to build phonetic fluency and mastery. The concept of hide-and-seek made my son more excited to read as he loves to conquer a game. However, the game was entirely too easy as the words aren't actually hidden at all. Mouse's Hide-and-Seek Words gets 4 Stars. Have you or your child read Mouse's Hide-and-Seek Words? That mouse is just cute enough, not over-the-top with contrived winsomeness. His face wears recognizable expressions, which makes him the best looking mouse I've seen in a picture book... like... forever.

Kids love the hide and seek part of this book! Even on the cover of it! Very well written!

This book is simple and I deffintly would only read it for kindergartners and 1st graders. I like how the each page starts with a word and then the following page shows what other word is inside that 1st word. Its clever and makes students aware of thses words and to look for them. This book also helps students sound words out. If they know ant but not plant they can see that all they have to do it add pl to ant to get plant. For a leveled text I think this book is really good and can help students a lot.

My son is 5 and learning to read right now. I actually enjoy this book more than him because I love word games and this book teaches children about small words hidden in bigger words such as "Here" in "There" and "Everywhere". I'll admit, my son doesn't like it though. We made it half way through and he told me that the book was too long and he wanted to stop, which was fine since we weren't reading it as a story but using it as a learning tool instead.

Level 1 Ready to Read Phonics

The little guy just turned 4 in June. I think this book will need to be reintroduced in another 2 months or so. He's just not quite ready for it yet. He enjoyed it as a story but didn't really catch on to the little word hiding in the big word. We'll see how he does at around 4 1/2.

This is a very nicely done level 1 book. It follows a mouse through the storybook and uses words that transforms into other words helping children realize there are words 'hidding' within other words. Like trip and rip (the mouse was running and trip and then his pants rip) plant, ant... bright,right...treat,eat... really cute book

This is a beginners book on rhyming words about a mouse going to school and being clumsy there.
