When Njal the Peacemaker meets his bride-to-be, she’s dressed in breeches, flaunting a crossbow, and covered in boar’s blood. What he needs is a woman skilled with words, a woman with exquisite manners, a cunning woman capable of maneuvering the political intrigue of a king’s court. Not this rough country lass whose skill with a crossbow rivals his.
Bettina has no desire to wed a peacemaker. She needs a Viking warrior who’ll strike fear into the hearts of her enemies, a man of strength who can thwart her step-uncle’s theft of her castle’s treasures. But Nyal the Peacemaker wields words, not weapons—until their wedding night proves he’s also a man of passion. Neither can resist the heat of their coupling, but can a man who values peace be enough for a warrior bride?
Award winning, author Jianne Carlo’s motto is simple: Alpha Me Please.
While strong heroines, exotic locations, and cultural differences are her forte, she goes weak in the knees for warriors of any type, rebels, SEAls, Vikings, and bad-ass mercenaries. Send her a man with an attitude and she’ll find the right woman to tame him.
Nothing makes Jianne’s day more than an email from someone who’s read one of her books. So far, she’s received emails from almost every continent on the planet. Almost…
This is my second Viking book in the series to read, and I wasn't disappointed. After reading The Dragon Slayer, I thought I'd give another one a try. I usually don't read this genre, but I love these stories. The characters have distinct personalities and the plots are page-turners. I like the length since I'm very busy and don't have a lot of time to read.
Will the Peacemaker be able to tame his warrior bride?
When Njal, known as the Peacemaker, first meets his bride to be, she’s dressed in men’s clothing, using a crossbow and covered in boar’s blood. Not exactly what he envisioned in his bride. What he needs is a smart, well mannered woman good with words and capable of maneuvering the intrigue at the king’s court. He never imagined a rough country lass whose skill with a crossbow might be better than his own.
Bettina needs a Viking warrior, not a peacemaker. She needs a warrior who’ll strike fear into the hearts and minds of her enemies and stop the ongoing theft of her castle’s treasures by her step-uncle. But Njal the Peacemaker is more than he seems. Their wedding night proves neither can resist the passion and heat of their coupling but can a man who uses words instead of weapons be the proper husband for a warrior bride?
The Peacemaker by Jianne Carlo is a fun and spicy historical romance and the third story in her Viking Warriors series. The characters are well developed and very likeable. The setting and dialogue are all in keeping with the historical period in which the story takes place.
Njal is known as the Peacemaker in King Cnut’s kingdom. He’s a strong Viking warrior but has spent more time at court than his brothers and has learned the wisdom of using words wisely. He’s the more cunning and polished member in a family full of warriors, though like his brothers, he’s tall, handsome, and skilled at battle. While he enjoys the company of women and enjoys the occasional “bed sport,” he’s not really looking for a wife when he’s given one by the king. It’s a political marriage meant to help further King Cnut’s new alliance with the Scottish king and it’s a reward for Njal’s hard work. Njal was hoping for a wife who will help him further his position at court and be a good companion; he wasn’t looking for a woman who is as much a warrior at heart as his brothers. Luckily he’s more than meets the eye and is up to the challenge.
Bettina is a woman ahead of her time; her father believed women should be trained in the art of battle. While Bettina is comfortable being a woman, she’s also comfortable dressed in men’s clothing and taking on responsibilities seen as warrior’s chores. She’s determined to protect both herself and her mother from her step-uncle, Mordred, who she suspects of being behind the sudden poverty her castle and people are suffering. While she knows she has no choice about her upcoming marriage or the choice of her husband, she was hoping for a warrior husband, not a Viking peacemaker. I really liked how Ms. Carlo developed Bettina’s character throughout the story; she’s brave, loyal, and smart but lacks finesse and cunning—something she’ll learn from her husband.

My Review: Another good after dark book in this series. I do love the Viking men and their tough ass women, but sometimes I want to read more than their bed-sport. There is so much more going on in this one, maneuvering of kings and political intrigue, chest pounding to see who comes out the victor but the story really skims over all of that. All that said, if you are looking for a steamy book to keep you company at night this is perfect.
I love the way Ms. Carlo switched roles in this book, with the Viking warrior being the peacemaker, and his wife, the one who hunts boars. Bettina rocked, but Njal sure tamed her. A touch of BDSM in this one with an interesting rope scene. I love this series and can't wait for the next release
I love these novellas. They are fun and snappy and passionate. They show that Viking's were not the pollsters made out to be, but educated, smart, egalitarian before their time. Plus, the author gets the timbre of the sex just right.
I was in hopes this one better but it was not.sorry to say I found all three of these books without a plot unless you think sex and only sex is a plot.At last I had to give up reading this one it felt like i was rereading the frist two books and couldn't bring my self to do that.
