This is an epilogue for Kit and Harry and at the same time a transition to the story of Sam and John in the third part.
Harry visits Kit in London and they have to catch a thief.
The plot itself is minimal. It's more about a final resolution of the relationship between these two, and it may be a bit over the top with the sex scenes on the few pages, but I just consider it a gift for the fact that there was hardly anything tasty to read in most of the first book.
Let's just say it's very hot and the dynamic between the two is right up my alley.

Harry was here now. In Kit’s townhouse, because his own family house hadn’t been opened in years. Probably reading in Kit’s small library, out of the rain and snug. Or, possibly, reading naked in Kit’s bed. 🫠

Harry was sweet, at heart, and liked silken ropes, and kneeling at Kit’s feet, and feeling the tug of Kit’s hand in his hair. 😳

Lovely sequel to "Snowed In: Kit and Harry".

Harry is with Kit in London and together they solve a case as a favour for Kit's chief magistrate, Sam Rookwood at the Bow Street Preternatural Division.
This novella is on one side continuing Kit and Harry's story and on the other side it starts Sam and John's story, that continues in Midwinter Music.

Sweet and heartwarming, with kinky sex scenes.

I enjoyed this slightly less than Snowed In, but it's a nice end to their story.

Let me start by saying I loved this. It's a very short read but there is a whole lot of emotions packed into that space!

I haven't read the one before this, but I plan to. The book revolves around Kit, a constable in Bow Street's preternatural division and his lover and best friend Harry, a Viscount. Kit's superior, Sam, needs his help with something personal, an art theft, and he needs Kit to attend a party at a house even though it's Midwinter and Kit wants time off to spend with Harry. In the end, Kit and Harry attend the party together and Sam is there as well. The actual theft and the mystery of the thief and all form the rest of the story.

I want to say that I love Kit and Harry, and their relationship. Harry is a ball of sunshine and I would give him the world. He's described like a ball of sunshine too, with golden hair and all. Kit is naturally very protective of him, which I approve of.

I loved the magic system here. Kit is an empath, who can feel other's emotions and at times even see their memories. Harry has a gift that's super secret, but is revealed over the course of the book. Sam's gifts are not mentioned in this book, so I guess we'll just have to keep guessing. There's mention of ice elementals, greenwitches etc which adds depth to the world building.

I love how subtle the world building is. It's an alternate history Britain, with magic and a queernormative society. I approve of both! There are subtle brushstrokes of how the magic works and such, but no long winded explanations. The descriptions flow gently and nothing interrupts the plot but serves it instead.

And all the emotions! Kit feels so many things but lacks the words to express them properly, but he has to find them to clear some of the misunderstanding between him and Harry. The misunderstanding doesn't actually affect anything, but it's something that's entirely natural and a cause for some mental anguish for both of them.

All in all, this is a short but good read. I would recommend this to anyone who loves romantic fantasy, alternate history, historical fantasy and mysteries.

lovely follow up to the sublime Snowed In.

Rating: 4.5🌈

Midwinter Firelight, a sequel to the inestimable Snowed In, takes place 2 months after the events of that story that introduced us to Constable Kit Thompson, empath and Bow Street Preternatural Division, and his now lover, the Honorable Harry Alden, younger brother to the Earl of Fairleigh.

This is a case where the bar was set so high narratively speaking by the origin story, that anything that followed would have a difficult time getting close to the magic that first one captured.

And Midwinter Firelight doesn’t. It doesn’t have the setting. It doesn’t have the sense of isolation or otherness that allowed Noone’s prose to soar into episodes of poetry alongside scenes of beautiful imagery.

No, here in a London setting, Kit and Harry are firmly attached to more a emotionally busy and physically demanding time of it. They are still so new in their relationship but London is full of challenges and promises., as well as hidden obstacles.

Whereas Fairleigh was magical and sparse of people, London is the exact opposite. It’s the copious amounts of mundane , the demands of society, and more mysteries. It’s a more interesting and realistic grounding of this couple in their everyday realities and the rigidity with which society regards them.

Noone weaves both mens insecurities, which is interesting given that they are empaths, into the internal conversations each is conducting about their future. It shows the some of the limitations of that empathy bestows.

The mystery itself is the weakest part of the story. I found myself thinking about the participants for just a moment, then they were forgotten.

No, it could have been any problem to solve. The focus and power belongs on Kit and Harry. They are made of magic, both in the city and out in the countryside, as long as they are together.

I’m recommending Midwinter Firelight by K.L. Noone. It’s a lovely follow up to the sublime Snowed In.

a follow up long short story to a novella i read maybe a week ago (maybe not even that much). i like the characters and the imagery is just gorgeous and the world is cool but i think this one was harmed by being so short. it could have had just a little more to it and the attempt at plot was hurt by the length. cute but not as satisfying as its predecessor

An absolutely charming sequel to Snowed In, continuing Kit and Harry's adorable love story. I'm delighted to learn that there may be more stories in this series as the author has created a wonderful Regency London world, complete with magical elements. Such a treat!

Noone is a fine writer! I found the beginning a bit precious and fussy but enjoyed the development of Kit and Harry’s relationship.

Pretty similar to the first book--I bought both at the same time and figured I may as well see the story through. There were interesting aspects, though I didn't quite buy into the plot details, and have the same general feelings of dissatisfaction from the first book. It should be cooler that Harry is powerful but it manages to be sidelined.
