I reluctantly purchased a baby wolf from a zoo in Oklahoma in 2000. It made my wife (at the time) happy until he began repeatedly walking to my lap during the drive home to Texas. He was determined to proclaim me the “Alpha” and he would happily take the role of the beta wolf. By the end of the three-hour drive I was in love, but I had concerns. I named him Hunter. Within twelve months, I suffered a heart attack, moved to the country and the wife was gone.
Wolves are the most misunderstood species in the world and I was determined to change that. I invited everyone to come and meet the wolf named Hunter. I wrote monthly articles about our life together for an Alabama newspaper. All those stories were compiled and published as my first The Hunter Chronicles. I rented a booth at all the shows and festivals in northeast Texas and sold well over ten thousand copies. But that wasn’t enough.
I decided to teach children the truth about wolves in a series of books that was illustrated with photos, not cartoons. No fairy tales here, it really happened! This is Book Coming Home. Windy sees the land, house and meets a couple of family members...Her Home.
Ten months before Hunter passed Texas Best Choice Animal Rescue called me and asked if I could “socialize” a litter of baby wolves. During my visit I was so impressed by one female that crawled into my arms and refused to leave!...I named her Windsong. She was an angel sent to help me write the stories contained in this series. Hunter raised her and taught her even more about love, as he did Harri my border collie and Scat an abandonded kitten. Hunter was majestic, Windy is goofy...childlike and innocent, trusting everyone. This series is her story of love.
A Wolf’s “Love of Pack” is something to behold. Being loved by a wolf is sacred. Thank you, God.
