The Power of Receiving [Kindle Edition]: A Revolutionary Approach to Giving Yourself the Life You Want and Deserve

Rate this book
Once in a blue moon an idea comes along that once heard seems so obvious that you wonder why somebody hasn't written about it before. Amanda Owen's The Power of A Revolutionary Approach to Giving Yourself the Life You Want and Deserve presents a new paradigm for the 21st century-a philosophy that values receiving as much as giving and demonstrates that giving is enhanced when receiving is embraced. With the Believe + Receive = Achieve, The Power of Receiving presents a wholly original yet easily accessible road map for people to follow, showing readers how to restore balance to their over-extended lives and attract the life they desire and deserve. Inspiring stories are featured about people who have experienced life-altering results after becoming skilled Receivers, including Ken who regained his hearing after a devastating hearing-loss, Julie who met the man she would later marry, and Don who received an extra $1,000 a month in his pay check. Based on over twenty years of research into the nature of receptivity and its link to manifestation, The Power of Receiving offers a unique vision for anyone seeking to create greater reciprocity in their relationships and more harmony and abundance in their lives.

This book is rocking my world. I had no idea how resistant I am to receiving. Doing it "by myself" is so deeply seeded into my way of doing stuff that I have set myself up to not receive the very things that I ACTUALLY desire...like abundance of time and money, like health, and intimate relationship with my husband! I highly recommend this book. I am listening to it again because I want to practice the excercises even more thoroughly!

Smooth reading but no big aha's. A good book to start with if you have difficulties with receiving because it starts with small prompts like 'Accept compliments' and 'start the day with gratitude'. But the fact she mentions her e-course in every chapter I can't help but wonder if she wrote the book to attract more clients.

My cousin recommended this to me. I don't usually read non-fiction but this was decent.
It actually was pretty good.
Had some really good points in there that ate me up and had me thinking about decisions and unexpressed emotions I bury in certain situations or around people.

Written well, quick and easy chapters, and would really recommend for anyone to pick up, especially if you tend to give more of yourself than receive from others.

Happy reading.

This book is helping you to do not be afraid to receive more. Receive more attitude is not wrong behavior, it's states of mind that you need to embrace what surrounds give you. I simplify what Amanda told on the book and do it on my own. Start by accept all compliments, gifts, smiles - anything that given to you gratefully and graciously. next is writing five or more gratitudes each day to strengthens receptivity and makes you attractive to your goal. I found out this step is really helpful to make me grateful and blessed of what I have and get everyday.
By writing down a goal in one sentence makes my life feel focus and gather all what I will receive to fullfil my goal. Breathe in and out for what I like and don't like help me to reflect myself what I need to embrace and improve on my personality.
Amanda told to write the goal in the present tense which is same as you write five gratitudes. Always communicate and be attentive to your goal to see and feel the progress to achieve it.
Now, I'm doing it for about a week, and still going on because this is positive attitudes that makes me feel more blessed and always embrace what I received on my daily life.

While I liked the premise of the book, I find some of the exercises overly spiritual. It threw me off, especially since some of what she mentioned seem to be saying that it is not really a spiritual exercise. Furthermore, she tends to repeat herself/adds quite a bit of fluff (to me).

That being said, I really enjoyed the gist of the book and could see how I could apply some of the principles in my everyday life.

Pleasant to read, but no a-has for me. Some good stuff about unearthing your shadow side that prevents you from getting what you want.

My mind was blown several times reading this. There are so many valuable exercises in here toward creating and manifesting goals. Ultimately, it’s based on awareness of your own receptivity and ways of being in the world. Gratitude and gracious acceptance of all things are key first steps- “receive all, decide later.”

I really value the storied examples of several exercises, including visualizations. This book goes far deeper into spirituality, the psyche and managing ones mind than I had expected. I found it refreshing and welcomed it.

**Truth be told, some of this is not going to be accessible to a person with unhealed developmental trauma or PTSD. The author does mention how she tweaked the “monster party” exercise after seeing how hard it was on some earlier clients (becoming depressed after not putting their monsters back in)... I’m concerned that kind of exercise should carry a mental health warning for some (proceed with caution and a therapist.) I know because had I read this book anytime before healing my own traumas and meeting my demons, this exercise w/“monsters” would not have been remotely manageable...

It is incredibly valuable content, overall. I am using the first three steps for a few days now and am noticing a shift already. Maybe I will come back after practicing more of the exercises and getting some goals met! I highly recommend to anyone who is feeling stuck and ready/willing to work on their authentic empowerment.

Great for opening up to receiving and releasing any blocks to it from societal programming telling us "to give is better than to receive." (They're both awesome!) I listened to this on audio and found it to be both practical and imaginative. Spiritual as well :)

Some takeaways:
- daily journal: 5 things you're grateful for-in complete sentences. (include present tense of goal)
- activity: planning a party for the internal monsters (w/o knowing what they are) that are sabotaging their goals- then see who shows up and chat with them!
-suffering is about the past, the future is a fantasy
- breath in and think "breathe in" and breathe out, thinking "breathe in" do this 10x and feel yourself become more present
- when you see something beautiful observe a kindness, etc. think "thank you" invites receptivity
- write goal in 1 clear specific sentence
- receive everything, decide later
- change/update goal as needed: be in communication w/ it
- tune into one of your 5 senses, treat a regular meal like a special meal out :)

As one who struggles to receive or feels undeserving of receiving this book creates new insights of the possibilities of receiving graciously, which ultimately is tied to giving graciously.
Outlined exercises such as dealing with things in your outer circle and keeping a gratitude journal are encouraged.
The one concept or exercise that I'm still trying to embrace is the "monster party". I can understand the principles behind celebrating and thus recognizing your negative thoughts, emotions and traits but I can't quite get the concept of the visualization involved with the party.

I have always tried to clear up some ideas about manifesting, receiving and LOA and this book has managed to answer a lot of my questions such as : do i write my affirmations in present or future, how you should write down your goals , simple steps to reinforce your receiving muscles etc..

One more thing that i liked about this book also is its practical exercises and explanations of why and how you should do them in order to manifest correctly
Following the steps and insights, i started today exercising some of what was written and hope for the best ❤

Divorce recovery support group book club recommend. It has some good thoughts, ideas and exercises, but some are a little too new-agey for my liking. I still found value in the book and its idea that giving and receiving are yin and yang to each other and both are necessary and good in our lives to creative balance and harmony.

Wow. An essential book for those of us whose past continues to define and design the choices we make. Even though I finished the book, I will incorporate the exercises into my life because they are transformative.

It made the idea of receiving as the counterbalance to giving SO clear. And had very unique insights about ways to bring reciprocity into your life, in a genuinely loving way. There's more to this book than I expected, and a lot I'm taking away from it.

Amanda Owens has given us a gem of information. I love her explanations; not overly complex and not too simple - just right. And the exercises are very relevant.

I've read this book four times now. The exercises Amanda Owens presents here, to help you create the life you really want - and then prepare to receive it, it amazing. We've all heard of The Secret, and how you have to visualize your dreams coming true. But deep down you may not be ready to receive what you think you want.
Amanda is going to joine me on Monday December 6th at 10am Mountain time on Page Readers to talk about the book and her work. I'm so excited! If you'd like to join us live, go to www.blogtalkradio.com/page-readers on Monday and log into the chat room to ask questions. Or you can listen anytime at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/page-rea...
This is definitely the right way to start off a new year!

A simple read on an easy concept. One that many of us don't find easy to practice in our daily lives. With the recent popularity of the Law of Attraction and manifesting our desires and goals, The Power of Receiving shows that we if we aren't open to receiving we will not be successful in creating the life we'd love to live. A vital key, Amanda Owens illustrates why and how receiving fits in our lives and offers powerful exercises to assist us in the process of identifying our goals and blocks to receiving and strengthening our receiving muscles.

If you're interested in the Law of Attraction, or learning the art of receiving, I highly recommend this book. It's a small book packed with useful exercises and meditations, as well as inspiring ideas. Amanda Owen does a fabulou job of keeping the content concise, relevant and applicable for every day use. Fans of The Secret need this book to continue their journey with how to put the Law of Attraction into action.

At first I thought I loved this book, because of its cute size, the rough cut pages, and the paper quality- really nice! But as I began to read, I quickly realized that it is a spin off of Julia Cameron's, The Artist's Way. Same format, quotes, exercises, type of voice (though Amanda Owen is more jokey). It made me wonder...was she writing it to make money, or didn't she know how to write? The book's premise is sound, but the exercises and examples are a little thin.

I am in the process of rereading this book. I think it has some very helpful language about a different way to approach prosperity work. Some of the work takes you quite deep. I am reading it with a friend and I like the fact that we can check in with each other about how the exercises are working.

I thought this book was great. There are so many practical suggestions. Most books along this vein stay in the theory, but Amanda Owen provides real tools to help move the reader forward. I see this issue of giving without knowing how to receive in so many of my patients, so I am glad to have another resource to provide to them.

I heard about this book through a booksigning listed on Goodreads events. It was wonderful to directly hear the author's words on why she wrote this book. The exercises in the book are designed to help you be fully present in the moment and to be in a state of gratitude.

Outside of the fact that the reader's voice and enunciation were really annoying, the content was good and worthy of attention. Of course, the proof will come when I do all of the exercises regularly and find myself able to receive and manifest my dreams with ease.
