Gillian Key is a fighter and a healer. But now her military prowess takes a backseat to her paramortal psychology. For even as a war between vampires rages, there are fractured souls who need her special touch to make them whole. In Romania, the estate of master vampire Aleksei Rachlav has become the headquarters for those paramortals who stand against Dracula’s army. While the fight goes on, Aleksei has agreed to open his home to those who seek help from the woman he loves. Gillian finds herself with a new group of clients. One is straight out of a disfigured, masked man who haunts a Parisian opera house. But his treatment will strain the bond between Gillian and Aleksei, just when a determined enemy returns to destroy Gillian once and for all, starting with those she holds most dear.
This series is a bit tedious. However, I find that I continue to read it only because I don't like to leave things unfinished. Oh well, that is my hang-up.
The main character, Gillian Key, is a tough girl, and the author likes to emphasize that every 10 pages or so. We are told that she doesn't need any help - that she can take care of herself. We hear from her boyfriend when he repeatedly comes to the conclusion that she can take care of herself. Strangely, he has come to this conclusion many times in each of the books. Shouldn't discoveries like that only need to be stated once? Even her new patient got to tell us how strong she is a few times. Wow, are we expected to worship this girl? We keep hearing what a great person she is through the whole book! I got so tired of reading it! Wasn't there anything else to say?
I admit the book made me giggle a few times when the characters get into embarrasing situations. However, I'm not sure that made up for all the "blah" I had to put up with.
I also thought the storyline was oddly structured. Normally, you have introduction to the issue, build-up, the action, and then resolution. What I interpreted as the action happened in the middle of the book and then the story just kinda dilly-dallied around from there.
Toda a gente a adora, e passam a série toda a elogiá-la e a explicar o quão espetacular ela é. A história é... a Key a ir aqui e ali e
a) Ser atacada b) Ser raptada c) Ter sexo com alguém d) Ameaçar alguém
Basicamente é isso.
Eu considero esta série um dos meus prazeres secretos porque me faz acreditar que se alguém que escreve tão mal consegue ser publicado? Eu também consigo.
