A neighbour had a short stay in hospital and her daughter asked if I could keep an eye on her. I went in and out for just a few days and because I also cooked some meals for her my neighbour pointed to a bookcase full of cookbooks and said take your pick please! I picked up two and in the end she gave me 12!!! So having cooked my way through my Christmas cookbook presents I set about making some dishes from the books she very kindly gave me.
And this is one of them! It's a 2006 cookbook from the BBC, and it's not a bad little book. The white bean soup with chilli oil was a bit of a faff to make, you had to rinse the butter beans and then roll each one between your fingers to get the skin off, it took some time folks!! However the end result was very tasty and I actually had some chilli oil for christmas so it came in useful as I used a little of it at the end over the soup along with a few thyme leaves. Well the family ate it and liked it so I consider that a success, as was the turkey mince casserole which got eaten all in one sitting! I've now got this book on my bookcase and am using it quite a lot at the moment, so thank you Ivy!
I love the GoodFood series because they are so simply laid out, instructions are easy-to-follow and clear, ingredients are listed simply, ingredients are easily found in a supermarket, every page is accompanied by a picture, they are jam-packed with loads of different recipes, sections are marked clearly, they fit perfectly on the shelf, and there really are recipes for everyone, all the family! I love this series and use the books all the time :)
I love this series. These books are small easy to transport and the recipes are easy to cook. They fit on one page. Opposite is what the recipe should look like. If you find this book in a shop and you like cooking, get it. It is a forever book for me and one of the keepers.
