Dennis is a complete fool. In the first book I was more forgiving with him, because all the things that Max was doing to him was new, but the second book, my goodness, there are no words. How can a psychologist continuously fall victim over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again to the same person, and when he had a chance to escape, spent his days trying to find this person??? Yes I understand people get caught up in these situations, but geez Doc, you're a freaking 40 year old man that went to medical school, you must have a bit of common sense somewhere in there. When do you say, I can't do this anymore, when is enough enough? I felt bad for Doc in the earlier parts, but he absolutely deserves whatever Max does to him. And don't even get me started on Max. Aside from him being a manipulative lying bastard, I feel like I know nothing about him and his actual life, because everything is a freaking lie. I feel like going on a rant, but this book stressed me out enough, and has left me with so many questions that I do not care if they are answered are not because in book 2, I expected some progress from these characters, some type of change for the better. I've read novels about psychopaths and doctors falling for each other, but I at least saw some growth/change in the characters, especially the psychopath in regards to the way he treated his partner, but no Max is just manipulative to Doc just because he feels like it. He doesn't love Doc at all, because there is no way you'd maime, constantly drug, lie to and alter the reality of someone you actually cared about. And the thing is, it was the same rinse and repeat cycle, Max lies/drugs Doc, Doc thinks he's going crazy, Max lies/drugs Doc some more, Doc finds out Max lied/drugged him, Doc and Max have sex, they're fine for a couple days, then the cycle begins again...Maybe there should have been a dual POV where we could see what was going on in Max's head to better understand him. I really wanted to see some change in both characters, but no, Doc's backbone was completely ripped out in this sequel and Max glued Doc's backbone back in with imaginary glue. The author can write another book in this series, but I won't be reading it
