Snapped is the 4th book in Laura Griffin's Tracers Series and so far the one I have liked the most.
I've always had a soft spot for Sophie Barrett since she was introduced in Untraceable, the 1st book in the series. She's gorgeous, likeable and kicks ass....love the small gun she carries around when she goes off to one of her singing gigs.
In the previous book, Unforgivable, was the set up for Sophie's book and we know that, after the sizzling chemistry between her and the San Marcos detective, Jonah Macon, that these two would be the main characters for the next book.
The story starts off with a "bang" right from the first chapter. A sniper kills people randomly in a college campus. The scenes involving the senseless carnage is filled with tension and suspense.
It soon becomes apparent that the killings were not random and Sophie is in danger from unknown killers who believe she knows more than she actually does. And Jonah Macon goes all full out to keep Sophie safe.
I liked these two together. They have some really humorous and tender moments.....Sophie is an absolutely fabulous heroine....she's funny, independent, vulnerable, strong with some really good lines....
A good balance between romance, action and suspense, keeping you guessing who the baddies are until almost at the end.
Characters from previous books make an appearance and we are introduced to some interesting new ones....I wonder if the two characters, Gretchen and Sean will be paired off in future books.
This is so far, an interesting and enjoyable series.

It's been six months since Sophie Barrett's rescue from the clutches of a serial killer and she's finally regained her footing. On her way to sign up for some college course to line her up for a promotion, Sophie finds herself in the middle of a sniper attack on the campus. Just her luck that she's seen more than she knows and Homicide Detective Jonah Macon makes it his personal mission to protect her, even from herself.
The series seems to be getting better with each book, finally finding its mojo, especially with this story. The focus is on forensics and old fashioned investigating after an exceptional and gripping start. More tracers are introduced (who knew there was a thing called questionable documents?) along with the details regarding their areas of speciality. As I lean towards the mystery angles, the forensic analyses fascinated me. However, I loved Sophie, who is smarter than most give her credit and knows how to handle herself. Her relationship with Jonah was a bright spot as they tangled often and she didn't roll over when his alpha nature would rear its head. It's a smart and sexy romance with a suspense filled climax.
This story is my favorite to date and I hope we see both of them in future stories. Sophie is just too refreshing to sideline. 4.5 stars

Sophie Barret finds her in the middle of a open shooting on a campus, leaving a few dead including the shooter. She is determined to figure out why. She doesn't belive it was a random and senseless act but no one wants to belive her. She teams up with a homicide detective to get to the bottom and of course there is romance.
This book was rather meh, it had potential to be suspenseful and exciting but did not do anything for me and I couldn't see the connection in there romance. Might try out more of Laura Griffin's books but this one wasn't for me

I know I say this with each of her books, but Laura Griffin just keeps getting better and better. From the high octane opening chapters, where we watch Sophie Barrett duck for cover as a sniper terrorizes the quad of the university where she's gone to register for a night class, to the pulse-pounding conclusion, Snapped is about as good as romantic suspense can get. Sophie's relationship with San Marcos police detective Jonah Macon is complicated from the get-go. But there's something very real and very tender about the way they deal with one another. And when it's Sophie who first theorizes that the gunman, who committed suicide right before being caught, wasn't working alone, Jonah has to put his career on the line to make his superiors see that she just might be right. The mystery is a complex one and a page-turner. Mix that with the smoking hot romance and the result is a book that kept this reader up until the wee hours to see how it all turned out.

Review posted: Happily Ever After - Reads
Talk about starting out with action right from the start. Sophie is on her way to sign up for college classes to help enhance her resume in the hopes of getting a promotion at the Delphi Center from receptionist into their PR department. As she makes her way across campus a gunman opens fire into the crowd of students and faculty. People are scrambling to get out of the way, and as Sophie finds a hiding spot, she sees a pregnant woman who was hit and lay dying while her young daughter sits there watching and crying. For as many great scenes and moments that are in this book, that’s one that will stick with me. The initial randomness of the shooting is quickly investigated and Sophie’s certain that more people were behind this than just the shooter, who killed himself once the cops located him on campus.
Jonah’s on the case and his protective streak is running high with Sophie being caught in the middle. We first got a little bit of their story in UNFORGIVABLE, book 3 in the Tracers series, and we find out that their relationship never really got off the ground, so to speak. But the sparks are definitely there and as the case unfolds and Sophie finds herself looking over her shoulder at every turn, Jonah’s there to make sense of the clues that are coming in and help Sophie stay safe.
The pacing of the story was fantastic. It starts out with a bang and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It’s a great blend of action/suspense balanced so well with Sophie and Jonah’s relationship. It never felt overloaded with action, but when the enemy attempted to tie up all the loose ends (aka Sophie) to complete his mission, I felt right in the middle of the scenes with Sophie as she dealt with all the craziness happening in her life. Never mind the fact that she was still trying to put her life back together from an attack that happened a few months back. Jonah was there for her then, he’s there for her now and he’ll do anything in his power to make sure she’s protected.
I love that Sophie goes to Jonah when she needs to feel safe. When she’s attacked outside her apartment, the first safe place she thinks of is Jonah’s house, forget the fact that he’s not even there, it was where she needed to be. They never really fought the attraction between them, but when Sophie becomes a very important witness to the entire investigation, Jonah has to tread carefully and not get as close to Sophie as he really wants to be until the case is wrapped up. But their relationship continued to grow stronger the more they were together and they came to need each other so much.
“You’re not really still mad at me, are you?”
“Very.”
He brushed the hair out of her eyes. “Really?”
She nodded, and the hurt on her face made his chest tighten.
“Sophie.” He kissed her forehead. “I need you to forgive me.”
She looked at him for a long moment and he waited, anxious. He could hardly breathe for wanting this girl, and he realized he’d never had so much riding on one apology.
“I’ll think about it,” she finally said, and leaned forward to kiss him.
One thing that I’ve always enjoyed about each Tracer’s book are the solid stories the supporting characters get. We not only get caught up with past characters, in this case especially Mia and Ric, but we get great introductions to the characters we’ll be getting to read about in the future. Detective Allison Doyle has a strong role and we find out just enough about her to lead us into her book which will be up next.
I loved everything about this book and it’s a big must read for all romantic suspense fans. The series is one of my favorites and I think this story is the best of the bunch so far. All the separate pieces and characters flowed together so well and even though I was cursing Laura Griffin for keeping me up WAY past my bedtime, I simply couldn’t put the book down. And I love when that happens.

I knew I was going to love this book before I even read the first page, and I was not wrong. Sophie has been an intriguing character throughout this series and in this she is front and center to the action when she is caught in the middle of sniper fire on a college campus. Police detectives Jonah and Ric are also in on the action as first responders and investigators in the case. As in the last book, Jonah appoints himself as Sophie's protector and the chemistry between the two of them is evident with every interaction they have. I love the two of them. Sophie is tough, but at the same time acts like a girl with vulnerability and doesn't come across as a female version of Rambo. Jonah, is alpha and is true to his badge and acts like a realistic cop throughout this. Ric got on my nerves a little bit, with his warnings to Jonah, as he forgot pretty fast how things went down between him and Mia. After a slow start to the series, Laura Griffin delivered with book #3 and this one, and I am totally hooked on this series.

Snapped is Sophie and Jonah's Story. We got to see these two in previous books as side characters and we did get to see a little something start to build between them in book 3.
Sophie is the type of character that is beautiful and vivacious. She works as the receptionist at the Delphi center, but aspires to be a singer. Plans changed for her when she gets kidnapped by a serial killer in book 3. Jonah saves her in time but not before it left an impact on her. When Sophie visits the university campus to sign up for some night classes, her world is turned upside down once again.
Jonah is a cop who got introduced to Sophie when his partner, Ric was trying to protect Mia in book 3. He's immediately attracted to her but doesn't really look beyond that attraction. The timing never seems to be right. She's vulnerable after the kidnapping attempt and then she finds herself as a witness to a school shooting. His protective instincts are strong with her but it does take a few attempts on her life for him to realize those instincts are more than from the attraction.
This was another exciting tale from Laura Griffin. Once again we got to see several sides to the Delphi Center. This case brings all sorts of evidence that needs testing as they race against time to find out the culprits behind the shooting. I can't even name some of the job titles at this center but it sure is fascinating to read about the process of how they track and trace all the evidence brought to them.
As always, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Full of action, suspense, and a deadly crossfire; Snapped makes for another exhilarating addition to this series.

#4 in the Tracers romantic suspense series
I've said this about all the books in this series so far--but it was very exciting and I just HAD to keep reading. I think I'd rate this 4.5 stars, if I could, just because I really liked the characters. I especially like the characters in this book: Sophie is strong and hopeful, but she's still dealing with some PTSD from her dangerous situation in the previous book. This time she's caught up in a campus shooting that just happened to occur when she was signing up for classes. Jonah is attracted to her, but he's got a problem since she's the star witness in the shooting, and he's one of the cops investigating. Jonah is sexy and protective, and he's fighting his attraction for Sophie. She's constantly chafing at his rules, and he's frustrated because she just won't follow his instructions for her safety. They're cute together, and their personalities blend well (when they're not irritating each other). We revisit some old friends from previous books and spend some time at the Delphi Center. Interesting police procedural as they try to figure out the who and the why of these killings.

It's been a while since I shelved a book on my "stupid heroin/hero" shelf, but Sophie, you made it with gusto !
Who never stays put when she's told to ? Who goes out wandering alone at night when there's a killer waiting for her ? Who escapes her protectors when she needs to be protected because she can take care of things on her own (supposedly) ? Who sulks when she did something crazy and has been caught ? Sophie !
And who is stupid enough to fall for a woman like that ? Jonah !
So who can't relate to any of them and longs to slap them in the face ? Me !
Hence the rating...

The Tracer series has been getting better and better for me, it is a good blend of suspense and romance with characters who are real, screw up, fight, make-up but don't give up on life and Snapped is a very good installment and is the story I have been waiting for.
The book can be read as a stand-alone but Sophie and Jonah are people we have met before. Sophie was nearly a victim of a serial killer and Jonah a detective saved her. He has had the hots for her ever since but hasn't done anything about it.
Sophie comes from a family of doctors while she herself is a receptionist at the Delphi Centre but ever since her almost murder she wants different things so is thinking of taking college courses to get a promotion at work that results in a shooting on campus where she sees people die and bleed out around her. Poor Sophie I wanted her to catch a break but the hits keep coming. Jonah shows up on her doorstep later for sex she presumes but leaves.
There is a huge hue and cry and Jonah is on the task-force for the investigation and just when the police think they have it all figured out Sophie remembers that she saw the car the killer used and he was not driving, but the kicker no-one believes her though Jonah does try to investigate that on his own.
But Sophie takes another route. What I enjoyed was that these two clashed and fought, hell Sophie even rejected his offer of a date and at one point when Jonah tried to take over Sophie just went away which resulted in them finally falling into bed with Jonah debating over it since she is a witness. They fought but they talked it out, when Jonah makes a big blunder in order to protect her, he later does apologize when he realizes that what he did brought back bad memories.
I did enjoy how Jonah tried to take care of her while juggling a case that just seemed to get more and more complicated. Sophie went through a lot, the attempts kept happening.

I loved the suspense plot of this book, and as always I enjoyed the writing. Laura Griffin is a very consistent writer. Unfortunately, I didn't really "feel the love" between the main characters. Their communication skills were abysmal, and I didn't end the book feeling like they had learned to trust one another. Added to that, Sophie had a few TSTL moments, one serious. She somehow manages to blames Jonah and even gets him to apologize. I'd prefer the author find other ways to advance the plot than having the female lead act rashly, especially when the heroine has been traumatized in violent crime before and should know better, as the case is with Sophie.
I'm rounding up to 4* because I really did enjoy the mystery and the writing. If I'd been able to connect with the characters it would have been higher.

I'm rounding up to 4* because I really did enjoy the mystery and the writing. If I'd been able to connect with the characters it would have been higher.

The fourth book in the Tracers series by Laura Griffin and a good satisfying addition. I must admit, though, I didn't feel pulled into this one as strongly as the past stories have done to me. While I did like Jonah, I didn't really care too much for Sophie at times. She was one of those TSTL heroines determined to make protecting her difficult for Jonah. The motive for this crime seemed flimsy and I felt the the author may be setting up for future stories by carrying over the plot started here. This normally isn't a problem but because I'm older and forgetful, I may not remember much when the future additions finally come out. I would still recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic suspense.

This was a really good romantic suspense read. I liked it much better than the last one. It took me awhile to get the connection on the heroine's part. I would have been all over the hero...he was too sweet. I hope that we see a future book between Sean and Gretchen...they had an instant connection.

Sophia didn’t know what a bad day was until she was crouched behind a statue on the campus grounds watching in horror as people bled out around her as a result of the sniper shooting from the top of the library. She has cheated death once before, maybe this time would do the trick.
As Jonah and his trained team are making their way to the top of the library he catches a glimpse of a woman in the middle of the chaos that he not only saved once before but who has turned his emotions inside out. Never get involved. It’s a motto all cops follow but this time, with this woman, he can’t seem to help himself.
There is something more going on then a simple man gone mad. No one wants to believe Sophie. Choosing instead to go with the easy answer and paint her as a limelight whore. Sophie saw something that day. A fleeting glimpse but enough to make the true mastermind worry. She is now in his crosshairs and he never leaves a loose end. Jonah will have to keep Sophie close in order to protect her and in doing so might just put his own heart in danger.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that had such an engaging, action packed opening! Laura Griffin didn’t waste any time and by the middle of the first chapter we were in the thick of a nasty plot. A shooter on top of a building is a chilly plot, one that Laura’s own mother went through on a Texas college campus. She takes it one step further though in Snapped. What if that shooter wasn’t the only bad guy? What if he was working with a second person. A person who was the true mastermind to a sinister and evil plot that ran deep and hid secrets no one wanted uncovered.
That is what Snapped gives us. At its heart it is a mystery with a pulse pounding countdown to an inevitable collision. I absolutely adored Jonah and Sophia together. Each one fighting their feelings for different reasons. Sophia because she has tons of issues stemming from her abduction just months before. Jonah because Sophia has issues and what kind of man would he be to take advantage of those just to get in her pants? The attraction is there and it simmers throughout the book. I enjoyed the slow simmer because it simply was. Sometimes I feel as if just having a male and female main character makes people think it’s a romance when it obviously is not. This slow simmering was infused with enough heat that kept me reading hoping they’d finally get together. Finally give into the feelings they both had.
The twists and turns woven through the plot were hard to navigate. By that I mean I had no idea where the book was going and that is something that doesn’t happen to me often. I did wish that we got to see the villain a bit more often. Maybe more from his point of view. He was very shadowy through the majority of the book. Because of that I didn’t find him as menacing as I wanted to. Yes, he was scary. I find that if an author gives me more insight into the sadistic mind of their villains I tend to find them scarier.
Snapped is a great addition to the literary world with its steamy emotions and plot that keeps you guessing till the end! Jonah and Sophia sizzle with every page and keep you guessing until the last page. I loved this book…and you will too!

While investigators are skeptical about Sophie's claims, a skilled and determined killer is not, and she soon finds herself in the sights of a dangerous assassin.
Series note: Sophie and Jonah's story begins in the previous book, Unforgivable, as such it is recommended that the books be read in order.
Snapped is an excellent mix of romance and suspense. Sophie and Jonah's relationship is reminiscent of the pairing in Whisper of Warning, book #2 in Griffin's Glass Sisters series. Although not as brash as Courtney Glass, Sophie uses snark and insolence to conceal a deeper vulnerability and desire to feel safe and loved. Jonah, similar to Will Hodges, has a core of strength and integrity, and it is fun watching him come to terms with his feelings for Sophie. They have amazing chemistry, and their witty banter and bickering is highly entertaining.
The suspense plot is action-packed from the start as Sophie and Jonah are caught up in the events of the campus shooting and the subsequent investigation. The initial spree is nerve-racking as readers get an up-close view of events both from the perspective of the victims through Sophie and the police through Jonah. While Sophie is willfull and stubborn, she does manage to avoid being a completely TSTL heroine as she does possess some common sense and knows how to take care of herself.
All in all, this is the best installment in the series so far, and I look forward to reading more about the new characters introduced here in future books.

Laura Griffin keeps bringing the heat and I am loving it! The Tracer Series started out with a huge bang and they continue to be action packed, leaving you on the seat of your pants, never knowing where the story might take you!
Loved Sophie from Untraceable and was so happy to see her as the heroine of Snapped. The chemistry between her and Jonah sizzled in Unforgivable, and Snapped just brought the heat! I love a kick ass, I don't need anyone Heroine who meets the one guy, Jonah Macon....yummy...., who can get under her skin and make her feel vulnerable. And Officer Macon is having his own trouble trying to keep his mind on his investigation and not on the beautiful woman who he is trying to protect.
Laura again writes a story so descriptive, that you feel as though you are being transported right to where the action is happening. I love this series and I love all of her books, especially Thread of Fear. Was thrilled to see a cameo from Fiona in Snapped....love the cankles comment....and was thrilled to see her and Jack were doing well.
Next up is Twisted starring our own Officer Doyle....should be a good one!!

Quite possibly my favorite Laura Griffin book to date! It could be that I'm still surfing the high of it, but I really loved this one. After what Sophie went through in the last book, I really wanted good things for her, and Jonah was an amazing hero. As with many LG books, the hero is reluctant to get involved with the heroine because he is a cop and she is somehow involved in the investigation. I loved that Sophie kind of pushed herself in his life.
The mystery was fantastic, with a truly chilling opener that was so relevant to things going on in the world today. The declarations at the end were sweet, and I'm already excited for the next book in the Tracers series, Twisted!

I think this is my favorite of the Tracer series to date. There was much more suspense and less romance, but I don't think that took away from the story. The story wasn't one that could be determined in the first few chapters, and you really felt for the characters. I wish there had been more interaction with the child she saved, but that is my soft side poking out. Really great addition to the Tracer series.

4 Strong Stars! Lots of chemistry sparked between Sophie and Jonah, and the danger factor was off the charts. This was a great read! I really liked both lead characters, and the plot line was full of suspense. No dragging or slow places to be found in this excellent romantic suspense. On to the next Tracers...

This is decent formula, as always. What keeps it at "meh" instead of at "really good" is that I didn't buy into the couple at all. It feels too much like, "well, you know, they're next" instead of believable. Sometimes introducing new characters, even at the risk of infinitely expanding the world, is the way to go...

I liked Scorched by Laura Griffin, so I keep trying her other books hoping they'll be like Scorched, but they're not. They're more like Eve Duncan books, and I don't really care for the forensic science part of these books. This isn't a bad book, it's simply not my cup of tea.

This is the second book in the Tracers series I've read, and I liked it okay, but the gun fights were a lot hotter than the sex.
Just about all these books have the same plot. A tough, sexy, headstrong single girl is menaced by baddies who are part of some evil plot. A tough lawman tries to protect the girl but she's determined to help solve the mystery. They end up falling in love and the bad guys get killed off.
What makes Laura Griffin's books consistently rewarding is that she really does a lot of research on police methods, crime labs, forensic evidence, and gunfire. There were gun fights and weapons practice in this book so realistic and powerful they could have come out of a novel by Stephen Hunter.
The thing is, though, Jonah and Sophie just didn't make much of an impression on me as a couple. She was sort of vaguely afraid of commitment, I guess, but I wasn't clear on why. And he was reluctant to hook up with a crime witness for about 100 pages or so, but there were no real career consequences or even any knowing looks from fellow cops after they started doing it. In fact, at one point he asks a buddy to "lock her up" to keep Sophie safe, and she panics and hits the other cop, and gets locked up over night -- but none of that seems to have any real world consequences on a professional level for either of them.
Another problem was with the villains. (This could be a spoiler, sort of.) Both of them are apparently Iraq war veterans who've turned bad and become crazed killers. There's no reason that couldn't happen, of course, but the author wastes no time trying to understand them. I wanted Laura Griffin or Sophie or Jonah or someone to have some kind of emotional reaction or make some kind of comment on what it all means. Given that every single male and most females in these Tracers books are law enforcement, it's odd that the villains are often military as well.
Overall though I would call this a better than average read. I liked the implied secondary romance with Alison and what's his name, whoever she was working with. Alison struck me as a much more believable professional woman than Sophie. I'm definitely going to look for TWISTED, the next book in the series.

I've enjoyed Laura Griffin's Tracers series quite a bit--they're just fast, fun and addictive reads in an interesting setting (Texas and the Delphi Center). (But, do no, I repeat, do not read her first two-book series, Borderline--the characters are unbelievably annoying, especially the main character in the second one.) Jonah is actually one of my favorite characters from this series--he's pretty much a good guy and not a brooding and cranky as some of the other guys in this series. Sophie would drive me crazy if I hadn't read the rest of the series, but with her complete backstory, I found her to be pretty sympathetic. However, had I read this as a paper book and not an ebook, I would have thrown my book against the wall during the inevitable unsexy sex scene in which they have an awful "conversation" in which Sophie tells Jonah that condoms are unnecessary--yet, she has no basis for knowing this! I mean, come on... in this day and age? Really? I mean, condoms don't just prevent pregnancy! Geez... Regardless of this WTFery, this was actually one of the more fun installments of this series, because the main characters already had a fairly significant history and there was no "will they, won't they" silliness happening.

This week I really badly needed a book related escape. Laura Griffin kindly delivered that with this book. In fact, as her books usually do, it sucked me in from the first page and offered a well paced romantic suspense that entertained me from beginning to end.
I have liked the character of Sophie right from the time she went to work for Alex, a few books back. She is smart and feisty yet she has ample flaws and faces a lot of challenges. She is a believable, sympathetic heroine. Jonah is a sympathetic character too and I enjoyed the relationship development between him and Sophie. I really like when an author has cameos of characters from previous books set in the same world. In this book we had a quick visit from Fiona Glass. If you haven't read the Glass Sisters stories yet, do it!

A Sniper, Special Ops, FBI, Local Cops, numerous victims (alive and dead). Lots of action in this book, and maybe a bit too many TSTL moments especially for the main female character (why is it always the female?!).
This series is based around the "Delphi Center" which houses the "Tracers" - searchers, finders of forensic evidence down to the minutaie. At least one main character in each of the series books works in some way with the Center. This time it is the under appreciated receptionist, Sophie. A very head strong women with higher goals in sight until she's caught in the snipers ambush at the local university, then she becomes a liability due to her own fault! Throw in some hot scenes with the receptionist and a local cop and there you go!
A fairly good series and worth the read for me, 2 thumbs up and 4 stars
