With her ranch about to be stolen out from under her, Sunny Thornton relies on the help of Ash McCord, the handsome, wounded ex-convict to whom she has provided shelter. Original.
Romance novelist Janis Reams Hudson was born in California, grew up in Colorado, lived in Texas, but has called central Oklahoma home for most of her adult life. What little time she does not spend writing and researching her next book Janis spends helping other writers and volunteering her time to various writers' organizations. Janis lives in Choctaw, Oklahoma, with her husband Ron, and various cats, ducks, and sheep.
I was surprised that this re-issued 90s romance wasn't utterly terrible. Sure, it's not great, and both the leads are a bit lacking in personality, but it was kind of cute. Although Ash had the tendency to put Sunny on a pedestal, his thoughts about her were respectful, and I liked that he sometimes blushed when she spoke to him. He was actually really decent as far as heroes go (especially heroes of 90s romances). Sunny was a capable heroine, innocent but not ignorant about certain things, and I enjoyed the villain as well. This was a quick read, and really good for a freebie! It seems like the author had a pretty good time writing it too.
This is my first book by Janis Reams Hudson but definitely won't be my last. Ash has returned to prove his innocence of his unjust imprisonment. As soon as he rides into Cotton Wood Crossing, Texas he crosses paths with Sunny Thornton and her sisters. Can a proper young ranch owners daughter and a hated ex-con find true love? Can Sunny run a ranch and keep herself and her sitters together. Why is the banker so determined to take over the Thornton ranch. Will Ash be able to prove his innocence. This book has a gripping love story and mystery that pulls you in from the very beginning and keeps your attention to the very end. Great read!
Janis Reams Hudson's Wild Texas Flame was an amazing love story. Sonny, Ash, and three little girls are a family to love and cherish. Captivating from the beginning to the end. This is a book that will wrap itself around your heart and embed itself in your soul. Truth revealed, justice handed down, and family bonds built, Wild Texas Flame is truly a recipe for a great book and this one delivered.
This was a really good story that kept me coming back for more. I would say the drama, who-done-it side took up more of the story than romance did though. I felt that there were times during the story that a little bit more romance could have been thrown in. For example, the hero becomes injured, the heroine offers to keep him at her place and help him with his recovery... which included massaging the muscles in his legs thoroughly, etc. and it could have been made into an awkward, fun, ice-breaker into romance (I thought, at least) but it seemed to pass by the scene rather quickly. The characters were all fun and likeable (except the nasty villain, of course) but the hero spent way too much time moaning how unworthy he was for the heroine, and the heroine would then beg him to stay. That was the basis of their time together.... So a little bit more on the romantic side to their relationship would have been a 5-star for me.
I first read this years ago and decided to reread it when encouraging a couple other friends try it. Sunny and Ash provided lots of laughter and sweet moments and nostalgia of times past. The mystery adventure wasn't too hard to figure out, but the twists still kept me on my toes watching for them. Amy stole my heart every time she was around. Loved Sunny's strength and sassyness and stubbornness. She was able to hold her own at the same time be vulnerable. And she was strong when Ash needed someone to support him. Ash had many good qualities that redeemed him from the sometimes frustrating view of himself. Thank goodness Sunny saw through that and helped him get his head on straight.
Enjoyable story...love both the main characters strong, independent, brave and full of actions also love the sex scene how the author made not too much but enough to enjoy and picture it. All in all would read more from her for sure.
One of the best western romance books I have ever read, I fell in love at the first page when Ash came riding into town I knew that some how he and Sunny would be together, loved the character Amy,she was a little curious and very outspoken, it held me to my seat to see what would be coming next. Oh and the old bench warmers real life characters. I will be reading more from this writer, I love a good romantic historical western.

This is not your ordinary romantic western because this lady can write. This book keeps your interest from the first page to the end. My only criticism would be the sex scenes. I don't need explicit descriptions of sex..been there done that. And lady you have a gift that doesn't require overt sex scenes.
A reasonably good story. Her ranch is about to be reclaimed by the bank and he is an ex convict accused of back shooting the mayor leaving him a crippled. A bank robbery occurs and he is then shot in the back. She nurses him back to health. The bad guy is actually the mayor and he is definitely not crippled.
A very mediocre historical western romance. The beginning was compelling (and sad) enough for a historical western and the mystery aspect of this story, while a bit predictable, wasn't bad either. However, I'm searching for the next Kaki Warner, and this fell short of the mark. It wasn't particularly humourous, the banter wasn't very witty, and the yearning/lusting/daydreaming about naked love interests had me rolling my eyes big time. I did enjoy the well developed MCs, the alternating povs, the honesty between the MCs (there was absolutely no BIG MISUNDERSTANDING here), the absence of ow/om drama, and the low number of sex scenes, but I could have skipped this one and not missed too much.
