For psychic mediums Quinn McConnell and Hunter Janz, dead folks pay the bills… barely. To make it into the financial comfort zone, they need an edge over their competition, and, as far as Quinn is concerned, some resolution to the sexual tension and unrequited love wreaking havoc with his psychic reception. Salvation comes in the form of dapper Dustin DeWind, a zombie who can obviously see and converse with the departed. In return for Quinn’s and Hunter’s help in finding the man who made him, he promises to steer them toward the elusive spirits that are their stock in trade. But once they forge an uneasy alliance, it almost seems Dustin is also nudging them toward each other….

Despite the title, the zombie IS NOT one of the main couples. Just so you know :). The story is narrated by Quinn McConnell. He is one part of the duo pyschic mediums -- and oh, he is in love with his straight partner, Hunter Janz. This situation almost brings Quinn to the end of his sanity until a mysterious man, by the name of Dustin DeWind (he loves puns :p) who claimed that he is already dead, asks for their help to find his lover, and in progress, seems to bring Quinn and Hunter closer.

This is sweet with just the right angst -- coming from Quinn who has been pining over Hunter. Ms. Snow writes the emotion part really well, as we read through Quinn's thoughs about Hunter, his yearning, his frustration, and his hurt when he realizes what Hunter is been keeping from him. AND, in between this, Abercrombie Zombie also brings a humorous tone that I don't get a lot from K.Z. Snow's stories before with witty quips like ...

... the beam from my flashlight angling down the corridor and illuminating an interesting bit of information on the wall: Satan Eats Pussy. I always knew the son of a bitch was straight (page 39).

Turning my back to Hunter, I pulled the radio out while I did a little squat-and-push to make my half-hard dick less of a nuisance. "What's up?" Aside from my damned cock ... (page 41)

I also enjoy the process of ghost hunting scene. It's fun to read that sort of thing. This brings a satisfying read, as always ...

PS: Those who are aware of most of Snow's characters will noted that Jackson Spey makes a cameo appearance in a prologue. Funny, his stories are the only ones I haven't read (have girl in it, not my thing)

I'm so disappointed with myself for not quickly catching on to what was going on and WHO it involved in the Prologue. Some greatest-fan-of-a-certain-couple I am. lol

Anyhow - I loved this book - zombies, psychics, ghosts, friends-to-lovers and a magic man who shall remain nameless = winning combination.. KZ's writing style always hooks me in right away, always flowing and descriptive without being flowery, her dialogue was witty and catchy and I found the plot to be both unique and interesting. Quinn was a fabulously fun, but emo all at the same time, character and the sex scene was both humorous and hot.

Great book and highly recommended.

PS - Love this quote

"I might've been a man in love, but I was still a man."

This was nice and different. Making a Zombie sympathetic isn't an easy task, but I came to like Dustin a lot (despite his tacky nom de guerre). The romance between Hunter and Quinn was captivating and sweet; Quinn's narrative voice refreshing. An entertaining, recommendable read.

I admit it. I picked this book totally based on its title. I found myself pleasantly surprised at what a good read it was.

This book was a fun, shorter read. All of the characters were engaging and likable. The plot moved along at a good pace and was entertaining. I enjoyed the love story aspect also and these two guys were really good together. If you're looking for a different but good kind of read I think you should check this one out.

Quinn McConnell and Hunter Janz are psychics who work together on various projects. One of which is working with the police department to seek out the spirits of murder victims in an effort to find out who killed them. Both Quinn and Hunter are psychic but they have different skills that play off of each other.

In addition to being business partners the two men are friends but Quinn wants to take it to the next level. He's been in love with Hunter for years and except for one incident a long time ago nothing has ever happened between the two men. As they work on this particular case Quinn finds himself thinking it may be time to move on if he can't get his feelings for Hunter under control.

While working on this case the men are approached by another man who claims he can help them. He also claims to be a zombie. A zombie name Dustin DeWind (yes I admit I thought that was pretty funny too). The two men end up working with Dustin and in addition to helping with their cases it seems he might just be a matchmaker also.

KZ Snow continues to show a deft hand in writing stories with a paranormal/fantasy twist in this novel, producing an entertaining and satisfying read. The main characters, Quinn and Hunter, both psychic mediums, are likable characters. Quinn is gay, and finds concealing his feelings for the straight Hunter (well, mostly straight?) growing more difficult over the 3 years of being friends and business partners. Just as they are called in to assist the police in a Missing Persons investigation, they also meet Dustin DeWind, a zombie with a fondness for puns. Meeting Dustin, who also asks for their assistance, causes them to reassess their business and personal relationships, and also teaches them to look at life in a more positive way. I enjoyed the dialogue/banter between the characters and I also found the emotional aspects satisfying. Personally,I probably would have enjoyed the novel slightly better if it had been longer (I admit to being a size queen) but did not find any aspect of the story to be incomplete despite the lack of length.

Recommended to those who enjoy paranormal M/M romances looking for an easy to read, fun and satisfying novel.

This book was about 3.5 stars for me. It wasn't a bad read, but it didn't flow that well. It started with an interesting prologue, but then it never got back to the prologue so I was left wondering what the prologue was even for.

Quinn McConnell and Hunter Janz are both mediums. Quinn can feel the physical experiences of a ghost's past life, while Hunter feels the emotional side. With this complementary skills, they decide to go into business together. I liked Hunter and Quinn and the chemistry between them. I was frustrated at times when they couldn't get it together and make the relationship happen, but I still felt they were good for each other as partners and friends.

The story was interesting but it wasn't really gripping. I thought it was an interesting, light read, and I enjoyed the characters, but I just felt it was a little short and slightly underdeveloped.

The writer has such a beautiful way of writing, the blend of description and dialogue so engaging that you are lost effortlessly in the prose. This book had such distinct characters and I loved them all, especially Dustin. I could see a whole series of these books with Hunter and Quinn and Dustin soliving crimes. Hopefully we will be gifted with another.

This was a very interesting read. I found myself pleasantly surprised with the book even though it was not all what I expected. When you consider the title and combine it with the cover, you would think this was a book about well dressed zombies running amok and munching on the human race, right? It is what zombies do, afterall. And when you throw in the less than stellar rating of 3.49 stars, you probably think that this is not only a zombie read, but a mediocre one at best. Am I right? If so, I can tell you right now that this book will be nothing like you expect. As a result, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised with what does transpire in this story, as was the case with me. On the flipside, if you were looking forward to a good, old-fashioned zombie read, you might find yourself more than a little annoyed that this book failed to meet your expectations, which was undoubtedly the case with other readers. I suspect that this the main reason behind the majority of this book's less than favorable reviews... especially if they had to purchase the book, like I did.

That all said, at the risk of giving too much away, for those of you enjoy M/M romance murder mysteries that incorporate sexy crime-solving paranormal investigators, bargaining lovesick zombies with decidedly mundane diets, repentant lovelorn warlocks seeking retribution and uncharacristically helpful wizards who help reunite toxic lovers, then this book is for you.

I read this for a challenge and I enjoyed it more than I anticipated. I'm not a fan of zombies--the whole dead angle is a bit of a turn off for me. But, as far as zombies go, this was a good dead guy who dressed very well. There where three MCs here, two were the psychics/mediums, and then there was the zombie. The psychics get an HEA together, and the zombie a solo HFN.

Although the characters lacked depth, they kept me interested as they wound their way through a murder scene, a ghost hunt, and a search for a missing lover.

I'd actually be tempted to read a sequel if there were one.

I actually really enjoyed this different spin of a zombie book. Loved all three key characters, Quinn and Hunter, working psychic partners, consultants to the police on a murder investigation. And throw out all concepts of zombies, here is well dressed interior designer, Dustin DeWind who eats regular food not brains, offers his services with his ability to see and talk to ghosts. Of course, he has his own agenda. A fun short read.

What I like the most about K.Z.'s writing is the change of genre and even writing style from book to book. You never know what you'll get when you open one of her books. When I saw the title of this one, I knew I would have to have it. And, yes, I was guilty of all the bad puns Quinn could think of and more, including "Braaaaains!". XD

Anyway, this is a paranormal-lite novella, with very little general background - it's not clear how widely the existence of people with the special abilities is accepted (considerably, I say, considering the help to the police and TV show) or how that happened or even how many of different abilities there are. Is this futuristic story or AU? It is something I, as a reader, would like to know. More details about Quinn's and Hunter's work wouldn't hurt the story either.

Basically, this is a story of two guys who became business partners and then friends. One was not ready to accept his sexuality, so the other concealed the feelings he had for his friend. An outside influence (read: the zombie) made them face their true feelings. The resolution of their mutual attraction pretty much completed the story. This is not a bad thing; however, people who expect another Mongrel (at least in spirit) will be disappointed. This is a light, easy read, with two likable characters, new take on zombies, some humorous touches. It's well-written (did you expect anything else?) and it will fill your afternoon or evening nicely. Recommended.

I adore stories about people with any sort of mental ability: telepaths, empaths, psychics, mediums. They just fascinate me.

And zombie stories can be great good fun.

So when I saw that this combined psychics/mediums and zombies, I was very excited. And I actually really like that it turned out to be significantly less gory and zombie-like than I'd anticipated going in.

I love that there were still ghosts and deliciously spooky paranormal investigations, but that I didn't have to slog through overly-vivid descriptions of zombie victims.

Quinn's voice is delightful, and he's so sympathetic with his crush on the unobtainable Hunter and his reactions to the revelations Hunter makes. And witty!

Overall, a fun, enjoyable read that might get added to my annual Halloween must-re-read list.

Favorite Quotes:
"I'm not 'bothered'." Oops. The protest might've been more convincing if my tone had matched my words.

Even Dustin was looking at me askance. And when a man who thinks he's a zombie looks at you askance, you know it's time for some behavior modification.

I was horny-ornery. Hornery.

Quinn and Hunter are psychic mediums. Quinn is in love with Hunter but beyond one little incident in a car, Hunter appears to be straight and was even engaged to a woman for awhile. They are approached by odd, but well dressed Dustin, who asks to work with them, in return for a favour. Okay, Dustin is a zombie and he can't seem to find his ex who turned him and needs the guys help. And maybe he can help them along the way. This is a very cute story with some creepy paranormal stuff. I liked the descriptions of their paranormal work and how it affected them emotionally to be connected to someone who was murdered or dead. Their ghost hunting in the old asylum was suitably creepy and yet had an edge of humour to it. I really felt for Quinn. He was going to have to decide if he could continue to work with his best friend, considering he was in love with him and it was just getting worse. You only get Quinn's perspective, so you don't really know what Hunter is thinking or even Dustin much, but I liked Quinn so much I was okay with that. It was neat to get a quick glance at Jackson Spey. A lighter look at zombies, no brain munching involved. I really enjoyed this.

I inadvertently got this because I was looking for Zombie books.
And while it does feature a Zombie he is not the main event.
Quinn and Hunter are psychic mediums, they have worked together for 3 years, and had a bit of a thing initially. Except Hunter turned out to a have a girlfriend while Quinn is queer.
They skirt around each other, cue some sexual tension.
The zombie of the title comes to them to find the man who made him a zombie.

The story is in parts suspense, romance and fairy tale.
Quinn is great, he wants a partnership from Hunter in both senses of the word, but keeps it under control, just about.
Hunter's character starts apparently emotionally clear, then seems confused, then clear again.

At times it stretches credulity that a couple of intelligent articulate people could be so dense, but at this juncture I really liked both characters, and the back story kicked in, and - I went with it.

The writing lifts it as well, a couple of passages were really lovely.

Sweet ending as well.

A refreshing change of pace for the M/M genre. Oh, how I love when an author is willing and able to write a story that happens to have some X-rated love scenes, and not write erotica and loosely frame a story around it. Snow is the former, of course, and it's why I keep reading her books.

My only major complaint was the prologue. It was, in my opinion, unnecessary and a spoiler. (Though most prologues do tend to be not necessary to the story.) I'd have preferred to figure out Dustin as the MCs did. But take that with a grain of salt since I'm that reader that sets a newly purchased book aside until I forget the blurb since blurbs often tell too much of the story for me!

Interesting. Very very interesting. Way too short.

Zombies, psychs, and magic. All with two love stories wrapped up within 133 pages.
I think I would of enjoyed it more if Quinn and Hunter were just together instead of coming together.
I did like the Remy and Dustin part though.

I have to say I'm not sure what the prologue had to do with the story? I just don't see who it fits. Maybe I'll have to go back and re-read it.

This is my second book by K. Z. Snow, not my last for sure.

Very good paranormal m/m romance about a pair of psychic mediums who are approached by a man claiming to be a zombie and to need their help finding the man responsible for his condition. Two important points: There is no zombie sex (whew!), but there is a cameo appearance by Wisconsin's favorite wizard... :)

A zombie who cares about his appearance is just one of the pleasing elements in this extremely enjoyable paranormal romance. I certainly hope it will have a sequel. The main characters are too good not have another book devoted to their developing relationship. Another winner from K.Z. Snow.

Story Line Flat

Let's just say the case these guys were working on was not their main concern. Getting nasty was all that was on their mind. Plus, the zombie factor really was an afterthought. Could have been a great story but fall flat.

This story is about two psychic mediums, Quinn and Hunter, who are hot for each other but have kept their relationship professional except for one brief fling years earlier. Add to the mix a zombie named Dustin DeWind (that song kept playing over and over in my mind every time I read his name which annoyingly distracted from the story but that’s on me, lol). Dustin is working on an unsolved rape/murder case with Quinn and Hunter as he can see ghosts. But Dustin’s story about how he became a zombie somehow takes precedence over this murder case they’re working on which took away from the urgency of getting the murder solved. I didn’t really like that deviation but I guess it had to go there due to the title of the book although I still can’t figure out why Abercrombie was needed in the title unless it’s because Dustin had a certain flair for a zombie. This was an ok read.

Hunter and Quinn are a team of psychic mediums working with the police, doing cold reading spots on tv, and investigating hauntings with a local ghost hunting club. The also have a past when they first met and were instantly attracted to each other. What began in the front seat of the car, pants undone, quickly ended with an, "I'm not gay, I have a girlfriend" from Hunter. Despite their inauspicious beginnings, the two discover that they have similar abilities and go into business together. Three years later, an unusual man named Dustin Dewind enters their lives asking for help and boy does he have a dozy of a story to tell. Fun book, a little bit of mystery, a little bit of angst, and then a bit of sexy times. KZS doesn't linger too long or make you suffer the angst longer than necessary. Trigger warnings should be issued for cheating.

I enjoyed it but I found the Dustin the zombie more intriguing than the main characters. The fact that Quinn and Hunter were psychic mediums helping the police to solve crimes was interesting and their romance was sweet but Dustin stole the show for me. I would love to read more about them solving mysteries together and Dustin either finding new love or reconciling with Remy.

This friends-to-lovers is short and slightly sweet, if zombies playing matchmaker can be called sweet.
I just didn't buy too much into Hunter and Quinn's relationship, especially not when Hunter spent most of the story throwing mixed signals, and then all of a sudden just falling into bed with Quinn and everything's resolved. I think perhaps if the story was longer and the relationship between them had more time to develop, I'd believe it more.

The ending also left me unsatisfied. I mean come on, Noooooo, I had high hopes for them both, and the romantic in me just withered away and died at that.

Quinn and Hunter are psychics who can sense the emotions of people from places and things they’ve touched. They help the cops, do private investigating, and some talk shows. Though they met in an odd way (a one time hook-up at a wedding) they are business partners and friends now, and have been for years.

Quinn is out and proud and secretly pining for Hunter. Hunter is a “straight man” who occasionally finds men attractive. He’s been engaged up until recently and though he seems pretty touchy feely with Quinn, he has never approached Quinn again sexually or even spoken of their first meeting years ago.

The psychic duo are approached after one of their talk-show gigs by a dapper but somehow dilapidated man seeking their expertise on a personal matter. He claims he can speak with the dead, but won’t say how and won’t tell them any more until he feels he can trust them.

To prove himself, the man who calls himself (pun intended) Dustin DeWind, agrees to meet with them at an old asylum Quinn, Hunter and their paranormal group are investigating. Dustin claims he’ll prove he can speak with the dead and help them with their cases in return for their psychic help with his own, personal problem.

At the asylum Dustin communicates with a homophobic ghost and afterward asks the pair to help find Dustin’s ex-lover – the man who turned Dustin into a zombie.

Though they are still not so sure what to make of the guy (zombie and all) they agree Dustin has talent and his sob story is very compelling. So they go on a search for the ex. Meanwhile, Dustin keeps pointing out how the couple seems to be more than just friends and this spurs some interesting and revealing conversations between Quinn and Hunter. Neither man wants to lose their partnership but these feelings between them have to be addressed and it looks like things will need to change – one way or another.

**

What a surprise this book was! I was expecting it to be one thing (kinda spooky, kinda goofy, maybe even a little silly) but instead found it to be a really well written, thought provoking and sweetly sentimental story.

The magic and psychic stuff was fun! (I love it when paranormal authors actually capitalize on that unique feature of their books and DO something with their characters’ powers/skills/etc.) Dustin’s part of the story was bitter-sweet but also interesting and moving and added quite a bit to the story.

I really liked how Hunter and Quinn’s romance subtly moved forward along with the “mystery” and that it wasn’t a big or over the top transition from friends to lovers. The pair had known each other for years and I was pleasantly surprised by the “reveal” in its simplicity.

There are only a few smexy times, but it’s pleny hot and felt like just the right amount for the story.

I really enjoyed this book, thought the writing and world-building was excellent, and will gladly look for more from this author.

I give it 4.5 of 5 hearts

I must admit that I picked up this book fully expecting to make fun of it. The title totally threw me for a loop as I was expecting some model loopy-loo with a craving for brains or something equally as goofy. I don’t know. But, the malicious smile I had plastered to my face as I started reading the first few lines got wiped off pretty darn quickly as I got fully sucked into this book. I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet story about two men, Quinn and Hunter, who are colleagues. Quinn and Hunter are psychics with complementary abilities in sensing ghosts and traumatic events and consult with the police as well as do “those types” of tv shows. Quinn is gay and Hunter is not, except for one incident early on in their professional relationship when they weren’t so professional. Quinn harbors feelings for Hunter, unrequited love really, and is having a hard time just being friends and colleagues. If something doesn’t change, he is worried they will have to split up.

Enter Dustin deWind, a man who can see and talk to ghosts, and offers to help Quinn and Hunter in exchange for a favor. He also walks kinda funny, his skin doesn’t fit too well and the color is off, though he is dressed quite well. Hmmm. He doesn’t eat brains though, so that is good. Working with Dustin brings the guys closer together, so they can actually communicate with each other instead of the ghosts they normally hunt. It is sweet, it is sexy and it just shows how people who seem close can be so far away from the truth. It explores communication, or the lack of communication and how it can destroy as well as create, most specifically the thin line between love and hate.

There isn’t anything hard-hitting or controversial or much to discuss except that it was enjoyable and well written. The supernatural, ghost hunter aspect is acceptable as the way things are and really plays the secondary role to the developing relationship between our lead characters. The story itself seems like a novella spin-off from another world Snow has been writing in and I am interested in reading some of her other books. I would give this book 4 stars overall only because it didn’t break any new ground, but I would give it 5 stars for writing style and enjoyment.

When I saw the title of this novella I had my doubts, but thought it’s a quick read and why the heck not! Boy, am I glad I did. This might only be a 100 page novella, but it was fabulous reading. By that I mean the writing was top notch you got a lot of layered story content. This was as satisfying as any novel.

It is written from the POV of Quinn. He is a psychic/medium and works as a ghost hunter and sometimes with law enforcement to help solve crimes. He is gay and doesn’t hide the fact. Three years ago he met Hunter at a wedding, which turned into a quickie in the front seat of Quinn’s car. They both had the same abilities and decided to work as partners, but not be lovers. Hunter insists that he isn’t really gay, just that he is strongly attracted to some men. At the time he was engaged to Emily.

Quinn is head over heels in love with Hunter, but knows it won’t go anywhere and he has to work hard to keep his feelings locked down at all times so Hunter doesn’t get spooked. This is especially hard for Quinn since he is a bit of a horn dog whenever Hunter is around . They have a good working relationship and he doesn’t want to ruin that. The men are working on a mysterious missing person case when along comes Dustin DeWind (seriously!) who offers his own unique abilities (he can see and talk to ghosts) in return for their help in finding the person responsible for his “condition”.

Dustin’s situation forces Hunter and Quinn to open up to each other and finally talk about their feelings. My heart bled for Quinn as he struggled with wanting to know, and the fear of answers he might not like. Their story is so loving and sweet I had to brush my teeth for fear of cavities . I loved the mix of mystery and magic.

The author wove together three stories of love. One ended in death, one damaged by pride and lack of communication. Will Quinn and Hunter learn from their mistakes? Now what do you think ? This was the first story by Snow I’ve read and you can bet I will be reading more!

So why did this take me two days to read - a book with a little over 100 pages?? Because it was freaking awesome and I savored and re-read and read again several passages!! Oh my goodness, the writing is superb! A little more than halfway through and I one-clicked my way through the author's other books. Color me surprised that I loved not only a paranormal but one with ZOMBIES. I gather this is not your typical horror/zombie book and I have to admit that I had to Google how one becomes a zombie - LOL! Quinn, Hunter and Dustin were wonderful characters. Ghost hunting, crime solving, searching for lost lovers who cast spells, all wrapped up in a moving love story with some lovely snark, about how we hurt one another, how we refuse to see the love right in front of us and how do we forgive when the hurt is so deep. So imaginative, so expressive and poignant - "I rested my head on that special place reserved for lovers—the humid plot of flesh and muscle where his neck, shoulder, and chest converged. He curled an arm around me to keep me close, and I pinned his legs with my leg." "What he didn’t want to say, at least “not yet,” was that he loved me too. I felt that love infusing his spirit, a potent, transformative force he didn’t quite know how to accommodate. That it made him happy seemed to puzzle him." "...it was, even crazier than Albert’s virulent homophobia, to be copping a feel right after an act of supernatural gay-bashing." This is talent. I have to thank a fellow Scavenger Hunt member for placing this book on my radar. Oh I love it when I find a new author!!! So this isn't a typical paranormal and there are those who love all that world building and gory, ghastly creatures but I urge others to read this. So wonderful.

Reviewed by Joe: As soon as I saw this title I had to have it. I was salivating. I was shaking. The name sounded so cool. I could just picture a bunch of good looking Abercrombie models getting turned into zombies and wrecking havoc or something along the lines of 90210 meets Night Of The Living Dead. Unfortunately this was not the case. There was no shallow model zombies and no traditional zombies running amok. This is not to say that the book is not good, K.Z. Snow delivers a very enjoyable read but it was not what I was expecting from the title or cover and that kept me from enjoying it as much as I would have if I didn’t go into the book with the expectations I had created in my mind.

The book is entertaining and has enough of a fun-loving camp flavor to make it hard to put down. The characters are likable and there were several moments when I giggled out loud and found myself smirking. The premise is very interesting and original and when the two main characters finally get together it is a hot scene that is well worth the wait.

K.Z. Snow is definitely a talented author and one that I will definitely be on the lookout for. She has a talent for dialogue and for writing smart-ass thoughts that endure you to the characters and make them all the more real.

I do recommend this book for anyone looking for some light-hearted paranormal fun. I was just hoping for something a little different and a little closer to what I thought the book would be about.
