I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.

Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.

After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.

Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.

I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.

I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.

Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

Was sorting through the romance at work and saw this. I read the synopsis, (Unusual for me) but it struck a chord. The author lives in Utah and the main character is called Emery. Now being an Osmond fan, this sparked my imagination.
I once read a historical M and B which was quite good but was a bit too much for me but passed on an afternoon travelling to and waiting for an appointment. Therefore, my expectations were not very high.
However, I am pleased to say that I really enjoyed this and actually no sexy shenanigans except for kissing and the story is lovely. It may be too cheesy and predictable for some but having looked on amazon, I've now found another author I enjoy. Even though this is set at Christmas, I found it perfect for summer.

Fun short story to kill a few hours with. Does it try to do anything new? No, but is uses a tried and true formula and does it fairly well. The characters aren't very three dimensional though (I enjoyed the little nieces more than the hero or the heroine), and, like with most of these books, there are quite a few mental gymnastics I just don't understand.

Our cowboy is once again tall, dark and moody, but this time, he's neither and actual cowboy nor a womanizer. Which is a change of pace for most of these books, and one I actually enjoyed. Emery, our heroine, seems to be a career woman at first, with her own company and all. And that's why I had some problems with her deciding to leave it all to be with her new boo. I get that that's what these books are for, but I'd love for there to be a heroine who'd be like, yeah sure but a girls gotta work, why don't you move for me?

Emery Kendall has arrived at the Hope Springs Guest Ranch for a quiet Christmas. She has not counted on the two cute girls she meets who are desperate for attention. Their parents were killed and their uncle Nate Cavavos has retired from the military to care for them. He takes one look at Emery and decides she is a city girl and has no business in Cold Creek. But with that look, he is also attracted to her.

Amazing storyline...

Over the years, I've read many Cold Creek books. This one is one of the best for Christmas or anytime of the year. You can't miss when you find great writing, sweet little girls, a tough military guy, horses and new beginnings found over the holidays. Loved this book. Don't forget your Kleenex!

Emery and Nate

Emery wanted a get through Christmas this year. She lost her Mother and found out her Father wasn't. She rented a cabin for a working holiday. The grumpy manager was an Uncle to 2 reacentorphaned nieces.

For a short romance this a was fairly good! Very good for relaxing and feeling some holiday vibes. This made me feel like I was watching a Hallmark movie 🤣 I recommend this for anyone who likes a fast romance without any high intensity or stress.

This Christmas themed story is an interesting mix of why Emery has come to Hope Springs and what happens when she goes to check in at the guest ranch where she has a reservation. Problems happening at the guest ranch having Emery clashing with Nate, who has come to the ranch to raise his young nieces after the death of their parents. The problems start with the young woman who worked for Nate and was doing the reservations for the guest cabins decides to run off with a cowboy. Emery winds up helping Nate with celebrating Christmas with his nieces. In the storyline we find out why Emery has come to the guest ranch, what's going on with Nate and his neighbors and how Emery is also involved with them. Christmas is a magical time and the ending is a worthy celebration.

This was the first book from this author that I have read & I really enjoyed it. The reason for the main characters being where they are at the same time & what is going on in their lives it was totally believable. The only problem I had is that it left things unresolved & it does not tell me if another book is coming to fill in my questions or if I should even look for more.

I think the story would have been more credible if they were all another year down the road. If it were not a romance, everything would be setting up "rebound" feelings and starting an epic. Fun, but not believable.
