Biased, American-centric history of Madame Chiang Kai-Shek, aka Soong Meiling. The author draws upon "dragon lady" stereotypes of Asian women in her depiction of Soong Meiling. The book is very Eurocentric and full of American exceptionalism. I learned a lot about Soong Meiling, but I am doubtful of how complete a picture Donovan paints. She makes it sound as though the United States is a perfect place--at least in constantly pointing this corruption in the Chinese Nationalist government, it sort of implies that corruption doesn't even exist at all in the States. This bothered me a lot. I'd like to learn more about Soong Meiling, but from less biased sources.
