“I wanted to jump in, be part of it" ”Wow! Makes a great film. Addictive”
For My Sins by S C Cunningham is not your typical thriller. It is dark, bold, and unapologetically intense from the very first page. This is the kind of book that pulls you into a complicated mind and dares you to stay there. It does not try to soften the edges of its main character, and that is what makes it so gripping.
The story follows David, a man whose beauty becomes both his weapon and his curse. We see his journey from a sweet and trusting choirboy in a British boarding school to a scandalous and calculating killer moving through the shadowy world of London’s elite. His hitlist is personal, and every step he takes feels driven by pain and revenge. The shift from innocence to darkness is written in a way that feels believable, even when the events themselves are shocking.
The settings add another layer of drama to the story. From the gritty underbelly of London to the stunning Amalfi Coast, the contrast between elegance and danger keeps the tension alive. There is glamour, there is sensuality, and there is always a sense that something explosive is just around the corner. The writing is vivid and cinematic, making it easy to picture every scene.
Overall, this book is gritty, exciting, and not for the faint hearted. It blends psychological depth with sensual tension and raw emotion. You may find yourself disturbed at times, but you will not be bored. If you enjoy thrillers that explore the darker side of human nature and are not afraid to cross lines, this one is worth reading.
For My Sins is the third book in The David Trilogy. This was my first foray into this series, and although I had no issue reading this one, I just wished I had started from the first book, only because I wanted to read more!
A psycho thriller with subject matter that's not going to be for you if you have triggers. The list of triggers is at the end of the blurb. Please make sure you check them over. From the start, the reader dives into David's world. He is on a path that's as dark as it could be. All he wants is to pay back how he has been mistreated in his life.
The adrenaline running through this had my pulse racing! I felt like I was on the edge of my seat throughout this. The pages really did fly by. It may be dark, but S C Cunningham weaves humour throughout the story. At times, it did actually make me really laugh out loud as I read.
For My Sins is an addictive read. One of those you don't even realise is creeping up on you until you realise you can't put the book down. Not even at two in the morning! I definitely need to find out everything about what twisted stuff David got up to previously. It's slick, twisted, funny, and you won't want to stop reading. I know I didn't. Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and S C Cunningham for the gifted ebook to write an honest review.
For My Sins is book 3 in the David Trilogy, and no, I've not read books 1 and 2, but it was not really a hindrance, other than I think I've probably missed a huge number of antics, which if not enjoyable, as the subject matter is quite distressing, would have been thrilling.
The opening scene of For My Sins plunges the reader into the world of David, and what a sick and twisted world it is. David has been badly used in his life, and he is determined on revenge.
There is a fine dose of humour running through this story, despite the subject matter, and very coarse language, which is only to be expected in a book of this nature. I soon found myself entirely enthralled as the tale unfolds.
This is a fine psycho-thriller, certainly not my usual read, but fabulously engaging. I too am a huge Guy Ritchie fan, and yes, his movie The Gentleman did inspire my 'take' on Coelwulf and so, I felt right at home with For My Sins for all it is not my usual read. I would warn that there is a lot of violence, foul language and references to child sexual abuse. It is a finely poised line, but one I feel the author walks well.
I will certainly be checking out more of S C Cunningham's books.
I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.
This brutal action thriller follows David Howard who after a violent and disturbing past has one final target on his list, but this one is different.
With forceful coercion he builds a team to help him achieve his mission and bring his target down.
When the people he cares about are under threat he increases the pressure on his target.
Will David destroy his target? Will the people he cares about be safe?
This thriller is full of action, and David’s character is brutal as he seems to have no fear and has lost the need for feelings when it comes to completing his mission.
At first I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy reading as David was very brutal, but you do get to see a softer side to him and soon the storyline had me gripped.
I think it is probably best to start from book one to get the full back story, but there are plenty of ways the author helps make it so you don’t get lost.
Overall, an action filles, brutal thriller where David Howard has one more target in his sights.
As this is a trilogy I feel you really do need to read the others first. Book 3 does work well as a standalone but to get the full experience I would recommend reading all of the series.
For my Sins is a darkly compelling read with a fast pace that is often quite funny alongside the twists and darkness. A great combo and very different, A book that you don’t realise you’re speeding through as it’s holding your attention intensely throughout.
Classed as a psycho thriller that does tackle some topics that some may find triggering so take note of the warnings. I however found it epic and wished I had known about the series before. There is violence and plenty of swearing but it absolutely does belong in a story of this nature. Dark, gruesome, intense, funny and most of all superbly engaging.
Book 3 of THE DAVID TRILOGY. The thrilling conclusion to the trilogy. Books should be read in series order for maximum enjoyment
The characters were very complex and compelling and dark and obsessive. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. All in all a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

David is my new fave psycho killer. He’s so dark and twisted, but with serious purpose that you just can’t hate on. I have enjoyed this trilogy. The depth of this story, description, was so good. I loved the originality of this. Totally captivating and keeps you invested from beginning to end.
