An interesting look at various blunders and mistakes that have appeared in print.
On page 93 Wheatley refers to proofreading practices on Nicholas Breton's play The Wit of Wit (1599); now, I like Breton, and thought that sounded like an appealing title, so I went to see if I could find a copy of the text. And of course I found that Breton had written a play called The Wil of Wit, which is also referred to as The Wit of Wil; but The Wit of Wit turned out to be just another Literary Error.
It was inevitable.
