A short but steamy vampire/shifter romance
A glimpse of her lavender eyes in a magazine, that’s all it took. Yates Colyer, reclusive photographer is obsessed. It doesn’t matter how many he tries to sate his hungers with, nothing will do since he first laid eyes on Kelly. He’s soon tracking her down and inviting her to pose for him.
Kelly has to listen to his message seven times. Incredulous that a renowned photographer of his stature would call a lowly struggling model as herself, she can’t help but think it’s a joke… That is until she returns his call and is spellbound by his voice.
A well-lit studio, nothing but a thin sheet and the secrets both withhold are not enough to hold back their desires. A loss of control and the two are mated. Formerly enemies, now…? Both must come to terms with their inherent prejudices to find the love that’s waiting for them if they only trust enough to claim it.
Ambient Light is a very hot and steamy romance in true Roth style. While the main story is about the romance of Yates and Kelly, they do let loose with fellow shifter, Jax in a one-time only ménage encounter. I really grew to like him as well and really hope Ms. Roth will find the time to pen his HEA. While short, Ambient Light is a complete story and a very satisfying read. If you’re into shifters and vampires and looking for something short this one is perfect.

Not one of her better books.
It is hard to write a review for this book and I have struggled to be objective as this book was free.
This could have been a good book and the start of a series, but it just seemed to be lacking something.
It started off okay, getting your interest, then he treated her badly, sexually and emotionally, then her old friend who had forced himself on her years before was introduced, (being a shifter out of control or not, it was not consensual), then the story sort of wandered and just did nothing, then improved.
Nothing is explained clearly as to WHY.
I came away thinking, well that was NOT a feel good, relaxing read.
I think there was just very little to bring the characters to life and I could not relate to them.
Also it was just too much sex (I can't believe I said that) and too much use of a word I despise.
I would love to read Jax's story if he gets one, the rift between shifters and vampires could be well utilised.
First read through EC years ago.

Nice quick read
This was a nice, quick read! Yates and Kelly were a nice couple that within the context of the setting you wouldn’t have expected them to get together. Despite them being the main characters I’m more interested in what halo with Jax.

This is not a “cozy” novel.
The storyline is great and an easy read.

Mandy M Roth has done it again. She's made me fall in love with another one of her books. It's a short thats super steamy with super hot alpha males and a super sexy female.
Famous photographer Yates Colyer saw her in a magazine and what caught his attention was her eyes. And since then it's all he can think about, the gorgeous model with the lavender eyes, when he's awake, when he's asleep and especially when he's with another woman. It's always her.
Soon it becomes too much and he finds himself making some phone calls to find out who she is, he tracks her down, and watches her from afar, wanting to take things slowly, but even that gets to be not enough, and sets up a photo shoot just so he can meet her.
Kelly is a struggling model and knows if she doesn't catch a break soon she'll have to find something else to do to pay the bills.
Out of the blue she receives a call from the world famous reclusive photographer to do a shoot, but she thinks it's all a joke until she makes the call back. And as soon as Kelly hears his deep voice she becomes very hot and very turned on, and she just had to do the shoot, she had to meet the man behind the voice that called to her.
Once inside Yates' studio things progress very quickly to where the pair of them cant hold off their desire's for one another.
But the thing is both are hiding secrets from each other, both thinking the other is human so both think no harm will come of it. with a loss of self control from Yates and the scream from Kelly bringing him out of his stupor they find themselves mated. There's just one problem with their mating it turns out that their species can't stand each other in fact they have been great enimies for many, many years.
I don't really want to give much more but believe me there is SOOOO MUCH MORE packed into this novella, and this is were the fun between these two notches up to scorching hot!. This book has really steamy sexual scenes including one menage scene, which I'm personally not really fond of, but I must say i found this to be very professionally written (meaning not over the top and made the act tacky), and as always with these types of books, (meaning PNR) there's a fight scene with another sexy alpha male.
I think if you like reading Mandy M Roth books like me your gonna love this, or if you love just reading PNR this again is for you. There is no cliff hanger to this book, but I do hope that Mandy M Roth will write more and make another great series.

His very touch was like magic. So raw. So carnal. She should have been scared, terrified, anything other than turned-on. HOLY HOTNESS BATMAN! WOW! WHEW! This story has such a hot, darker, intense vibe to it, offset by a touch of sweet romance & true friendship. I loved how unique this story was! I was completely fascinated with the paranormal situations, as well as the various kinds of paranormals. I wanted to give Kelly a big hug after the shower scene! My heart almost broke right along with hers! So many lines or thoughts had me cracking up but for some reason this is my favorite (or at least the only one I can share!) "The things he wanted to do to her were so incredibly carnal that part of him wanted to blush for her." Imagine a 400+ yr old Vampire, master seducer who is so hot he is irresistible, callous and only concerned about himself (all according to him of course) blushing! HA! The PAWMAZING writing had me laughing, crying and even panting. What? It IS a very hot story with lots of action. But there is a whole lot more to it than just the carnal activities! I would love to tell you about it all, or discuss the deception and ignorance but, BUT I CAN’T! There is no way I am going to spoil anything for you! I read through it pretty quickly the first time, then once my heart rate got back to normal and I was over all of the shocking twists & turns, I read it again! I can tell you that as with EVERY Mandy M. Roth book, you know the pages will be filled with a FURRIFIC storyline or three, FANGTASTIC characters of varying species for you to love & hate, enough of a history/backstory to add enrichment & depth to said characters and storyline, as well as surprises, romance, friends, enemies, etc. all PAWFECTLY entwined to create a story that is near-impossible to put down! What you don’t know is well, how all of these will be played out, what the specifics of everyone & thing will be, which is exactly why I eagerly gobble up every single one of them!!! With Mandy’s innovative, phenomenal & incomparable talent you will always find more that what I have listed, but that is up to you to discover after you buy & read this book, and all of her other ones, for yourself! In fact, it is also the very same reason why Mandy is at the top of my Very Favorite Author list and will ALWAYS remain there!

I love vampire and shifter romances, so this short but highly erotic story by Mandy Roth was a definite winner for me! It combined the best of both worlds as Yates is an ancient vampire and his destined mate Kelly is a panther shifter.
Over the course of living for centuries, Yates has become lonely and somewhat withdrawn from society, immersing himself in his career as a world renowned photographer while Kelly is struggling to establish herself and make ends meet in the vicious world of modeling. Yates sees her picture in a magazine and is immediately drawn to her in a way that he has never felt before, but can't forget. So, he gets in touch with Kelly and sets up a meeting for a photo shoot which turns out to be full of surprises for both of them!!
From the moment they met, I could feel the heat, steam, and lust coming off my Kindle. Yates loves to sexually dominate his partners and he wanted Kelly in the worst way imaginable, so the instant Kelly walked through the door he went after her in a no-holds-barred erotic romp. But what he didn't know at the time was that Kelly was a shifter and someone you couldn't push around. Plus, they were both about to learn that their afternoon delight would yield some interesting results.
Yates does of course, have a typical male reaction/response, which in turn hurts Kelly deeply and he must make amends. If I had been Kelly, I would have made him work just a little bit harder for my forgiveness, but hey that's just me. Yates does have to deal with Kelly's close friend Jax who is definitely ready to kick his butt, especially when he founds out that he is a vampire. This is because of the prejudice that exists among the vampire and shifter communities which puts Yates and Kelly's lives in danger because their relationship is forbidden!
If you are looking for a quick, erotic, and to-the-point paranormal novella, then look no further. IMO what Mandy Roth has written is a great beginning to what I hope will be a series in the near future. I would love to see a second book centered around Jax finding his mate. That would be a fantastic continuation to this storyline, and maybe throw in a follow-up with Yates and Kelly!!

I love Mandy Roth books and have read a lot of them over the last ten years or so. 'Ambient Light' is a short, stand alone, paranormal romance with action, lots of steam and a HEA. I was given this copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and I loved it. I originally bought this book at the beginning of December 2014 and I loved it just as much then as I do now, and keep hoping it'll become a series.
Reclusive and lonely 400 year old vampire and professional photographer, Yates Colyer didn't believe in true mates anymore. That was until the day he opened a magazine and saw her face. Obsessed with finding her, he calls around, gets her address and when he smells her, he knows she's the one. He has to have her and sets up a shoot in his studio.
When struggling model and black panther shifter Kelly finds a call from the famous photographer on her answer-phone, she thinks it's a joke, but is captivated by his voice. But the shoot he arranges doesn't turn out quite the way either of them expected.
I'm not going to give any spoilers, but I love this story of true mates who've lived with an indoctrinated prejudice against the other's species all their lives and have to find a way to get past it in order to be whole, but true love helps and they get their HEA. Written with Mandy's usual sense of humour and filled with steamy bits, there is also action in this hot, hot, hot story. Mandy always manages to pack so much information and background into a small space that I never feel like I've missed anything and I love the character of Jax. Maybe he'll get a HEA soon too.

Yates Colyer is a four hundred year old vampire who is obsessed with an as yet unknown model with lavender eyes that call to him. He has to have her, own her possess her at all costs. Kelly is the model who has captured the attention of Yates. She, at first, believes it to be a joke that he wants to meet her, after all, he’s is the photographer everyone wants. On their first meeting, Yates is overwhelmed with lust and his need to claim her as his mate….he knew even from her pictures that she was his. Kelly has never been so completely consumed with wanting a man like she is for Yates. Through their haze of mutual need and desire for each other, Yates does mark her as his…with her knowledge and approval. She is now aware of him being a vampire…what he learns about Kelly, at first disgusts him…and it is obvious in his remarks and attitude. Hurt beyond words, she shifts and runs away from him…determined to carry on with her life without him. When Yates comes for his mate, the need to be with her all consuming, he must first make amends. When he finds her with her friend Jax, she is in the throes of bloodlust. She refuses to feed from him to control it and the pain, choosing to use Jax instead. It is only after the bloodlust has passed that these two are able to come to terms with the hurt that has transpired and move forward. What isn’t so easy, is the lack of acceptance from both vampires and shifters alike, since they have always hated each other. When Kelly is put into danger because of their union, Jax is the one who comes to help them, and a truce of sorts is formed between the three of them. But will these two be able to overcome all the obstacles that are before them or will it tear them apart ?

Ambient Light is a book about two of the most unlikely people coming together. Yates Colyer is a centuries old vampire who has no use for the world at large. He immerses himself in his photography but otherwise is somewhat of a recluse. He long ago gave up on the idea of finding a mate and uses women to sate his most basic needs, feeding and sex. When he sees a picture of a beautiful model in a magazine he doesn't understand why he is instantly drawn to her. But he absolutely plans to find out.
Kelly is a woman struggling to make it in the cut throat world of modeling. She is barely able to make ends meet and knows if something doesn't change soon, she'll be forced to find a new career. Then her luck changes, and she receives a call from one of the most famous photographers in the business. He wants to do a shoot with her and she realizes this is her last chance to have the make it as a model.
The instant attraction between Yates and Kelly was palpable. Yates is used to dominating his partners and is surprised by the push back he gets from Kelly. Kelly has no problem letting Yates know she won't be walked over. Watching the two of them come to terms with their attraction to one another as well as dealing with their different origins was interesting. There was tension, hurt, anger and a lot of action mixed in for good measure. When Kelly's friend Jax got into the mix, it was especially sweat provoking. It was a good story, albeit somewhat short. It holds your attention and has you wondering what is going to happen next. I wonder if she plans to write a story about Jax. I would definitely read that.

This is a good novella that has the right paranormal touch to give it the read that someone who like the genre will pull toward and it is set in modern day world.
Yates is a photographer who sees a pretty violet eyed girl modeling in the magazine that he happened to see that calls to every pore in his body so he needs her like he needs his next breath. Thing is, Yates just isn’t a photographer, he is a vampire and that violet eyed girl is his mate. He needs her like YESTERDAY. He has never had such an affect from another woman in his life until he came across Kelly’s picture and he knew this slip of girl is his true mate. He has never gotten so hard in his life nor has he craved another woman to the point of actual pain like he has from just seeing her picture. When reading the story, you feel pretty sad from the way he has lived his life before Kelly and then the hope now he has a “Kelly” in his life. Be warned, this is a very short story but the author packs a punch with the story and it is good. You get the story even though it is shory. I do wish it was a bit longer so we could see more of the characters develop, get more of a backstory…do feel a bit rushed but still, for a short, rushed novella, it sure was GOOD. Kelly isn’t a doormat and she loves interacting with Yates though she is trying to figure things out. There are some epic twists to this story so I highly recommend you read this. I really enjoyed tis , It was utterly fantastic and I hioe she writes a ollow up story, this was so food.,,’’

Yates's first inkling that he has a mate is when he sees a picture of a woman with striking amethyst eyes. Once he sees her picture he can not get her eyes out of his mind. Then he is not able to get aroused with other women. He then goes searching for her and once her catches Kelly's sent, sees her and hears her voice her knows she is his mate. Yates contacts Kelly under the guise that he wants her for a photo shoot. But once her has her in his studio, her scent and oh so soft skin make her irrestable and he looses control as he gets inside her. Yates just gets control of his beast before he almost looses Kelly. Yates then gives her his blood but instead of bringing her over he discovers she is not human, but a another paranormal being. His shock is mistaken as disgust and Kelly runs away from him. Yates follows Kelly home and finds her with her male friend, Jax. As any alpha male with his mate near another male, Yates and Jax get into it. Kelly goes into blood hunger lust and Yates and Jax must get her through it. Yates later rescues Kelly from a vicious group of vampires while out at a club. Jax's help is request with clean up.

Ok. So this was dark. Like REALLY dark. There are definitely trigger scenes here, so just be warned. This is one of those books that takes the paranormal creatures in it and what they are very seriously. Which is to say, they're freaking dangerous predators. The sex is violent, the romance is rocky, and the happily ending was definitely a fight.
Yates is an old vampire who winds up with a confusing obsession for a new and upcoming model. Turns out, he's found his mate (this really shouldn't be a spoiler to anyone). She happens to not be human like he first expected, and Kelly's kind isn't exactly friendly with his. She accepts him far quicker than he does her, but there is a happy ending when all is said and done. There is some definite physical abuse throughout the book, but in the end, I just remembered they're both monsters of a sort, so it's probably more true to form than the candy vampires and other paranoramals we often read about.
If you want a quick, erotically-charged and steamy, paranormal romance with very real bite, this is a good choice. The last chapter was a GREAT edition and I wish more books had that. It was the 'sweetest' part of this book.

READER ADVISORY....THIS BOOK CONTAINS SCENES THAT MAY CAUSE TRIGGERS THAT MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME!!! Yates is a famous photographer who happens to be a vampire sees a picture of a beautiful model, Kelly and wants to photograph her. When Kelly gets a call from Yates she is complied to meet him. When she gets there they have an encounter that ends up with Kelly being turned into a vampire, but not all it is not what it seems since Kelly is actually a shifter and their kinds don't mix. Yates is upset when he finds out what Kelly is he is not happy and she runs away. Yates follows her and sees her with her best friend, Jax and that doesn't go over well since they are true mates. This is a short story but you will get a HEA! What I liked about this story is after the conflict we get to see the couple in the future still trying to deal with those who don't approve. I hope Jax gets his own story.

Enter into the twisted and lovely mind of Mandy Roth! I enjoy her creative writing. This is a short but oh so sex fill novella. If you love shifters and vampires this is your go to read. Yates is a very old vampire. He has taken the profession of a photographer of beautiful models. Yates has become numb to society and people around him. Yates has learned and developed how to get by and take just enough to live. Glancing at a magazine he is drawn to a beautiful woman with lavender eyes. Entrapped in her spell all he can think about is her, Kelly. He must have her, the demon in him craves her. This is his true mate. Kelly is a shifter, panther. Shifters and Vampires have never worked well together. There has always been a hatred for each; somehow love crosses boundaries with these two. Can Yates and Kelly find a way for true love to shine through? Read this steamy story and this will set you on course of fantasy with Mandy Roth’s books.

I loved this story. Yates has been around for centuries and has become some what of a recluse. He is a very well known photographer and is drawn to a photo of Kelly. Kelly is trying to make it in the world of modeling and is amazed when Yates wants to take her photo. Yates doesn't know that she is a shifter and Kelly doesn't know he is a vampire. To say that their communities do not normally mingle is a bit of an understatement. However, when they meet sparks fly and it is STEAMY. When Yates finds out Kelly is a shifter he lets his old prejudices be known. Kelly, instantly hurt, shifts and runs away. Yates is drawn to Kelly and wants to make amends. However, when he finally gets to her it is almost to late, she has bloodlust, and because of the hurtful things he did she will not drink from him. In comes her friend Jax to the rescue. It is a short but amazing story.

Ambient Light tells the story of forbidden love between vampire Yates and shifter Kelly. Yates is a famous photographer and Kelly is an up and coming model, when Yates sees Kelly's picture in a magazine, he knows he has to have her. Yates convinces Kelly to go to his studio for a photo shoot and as soon as they meet, sparks start to fly. When Yates discovers that his mate is a shifter, he reacts badly and will have to fight to win Kelly back.
Ambient Light is a sex filled, paranormal novella, with great characters and a great story. I would definitely recommend it to lovers of quick, erotic reads and it is a must for Mandy M Roth fans.

I love her books and I enjoyed this book too. Some scenes were a little iffy, but if you have read about shifters and vampires then you know it can rough and sometimes happen. Maybe next time the author should mention it to let people know. I will not stop reading her books because she has some great stories and ideas.
That said this book is good, you get rough sex, adventure, sexy vampires and shifters, romance and some fights. You also get the fated mates and forbidden love between shifters and vampires. Great story line.
I'm looking forward to see if she comes out with more of this book, interested in seeing what their kids would be like...

Ambient Light is a vampire and shifter novella that had an interesting premise. The characters were decently developed, as was the world the story takes place in.
I agree with a previous reviewer (Snowbunny) that the some scenes could be bothersome, or even triggers, for some readers. I, also, was a little bothered by how easily she forgave and accepted things that were done to her. I agree that there's not exactly rape depicted, but I still didn't feel comfortable. There is a previous occurrence mentioned that sounds like a non-consensual situation, but it's not fully described. I completely agree with Snowbunny's review. It's ok, but definitely not her best work.

I enjoyed this story by Ms. Roth. Yates finds himself attracted to a picture and is unsure as to why. When he meets Kelly he knows why, she is his mate. But can he look beyond the fact his mate is a shifter? Shifters and vampires are not friends and when Yates allows his surprised to cause his mate pain, he must convince her to give him a second chance. I loved that Kelly was strong enough to make Yates fight for her. He hurt her deeply and she isn't inclined to allow he another opportunity to cause her pain. I loved that both Yates and Kelly had to change and grow. Ms. Roth gave us a story that was both enjoyable and quick. It is worth your time and money.

This is a hot one! It is not for the feint of heart who like a nice sweet HEA. Oh the HEA is there, but there are some bumpy rides along the way and the sex is hot and rough.
Yates has been a vampire for centuries. Never has he been drawn to a woman like the model he has only seen on paper. Tracking her down they find equal needs. There is one problem, he's a vampire, she right a shifter. They have some problems to deal with and dangers with those problems.
Each has adjustments, some good, some not so much. It's a good short read but not for they young set.

Another great short paranormal read by Mandy M Roth .It's one of those type of short reads that you can read on an afternoon or rainy morning well any time is good.It serves it's purpose it's meant to be enjoyed and entertain the reader.The lovers or mates in this book Yates and Kelly meet due to each others jobs.Kelly was a model and Yates a photographer. The claiming by Yates was a bit different then what I read before leading to some dangerous scenes that endangered Kelly's life but it all works it's self out in the end. Didn't want to give to much away but I really enjoyed this read .
