Two brothers - Two Sisters - Two Loves of a Lifetime!
Iris Bolling is an award-winning USA Today bestselling author of five series totaling over thirty romantic suspense novels. In addition to writing, she has produced and directed several books to film projects, and scriptwriting projects for other authors.
Siri Austin hasn’t been the same since her divorce and the scandal that followed. Her mother and sister TeKaya, aka TK, see it and wonder if she’ll ever again be the Siri they once knew.
Hoping to get her sister out of a funk for at least one night, TK, a photographer, scores VIP tickets to a concert for Silk Davies, Mr. Get-Her-Wet. It’s a night neither sister will soon forget.
Iris Bolling is a name I’ve been hearing for quite some time. With a review pile like WHOA, it’s not often that I get to veer off track and read beyond review books. Participating in OOSA’s Letters & Themes Challenge has allowed me a little leeway. The theme given: ‘Her Favorites.’ For this month we were all to read a book by the favorite author of someone else in the challenge group. When I saw Iris Bolling’s name I knew that it could be no one but SiStar Tea’s favorite of ARC Book Club. You see, Tea reads. She reads a lot. But it’s not often you hear her speaking of the same author. I figured here was my chance. But ya’ll know how that can go sometimes. Someone praises someone and then you pick up their book and wonder if a joke’s been played on you. So I picked an Iris Bolling book hoping for the best but preparing for…not the best. I’m just keeping it 100 with you!
Anyhoo, I cracked open “Night of Seduction/Heaven’s Gate” and you know what? Me like. It’s a love story and it makes good on that promise. It goes a little beyond that and deals with other issues including the complications and unpleasant realities that come with love and living. There was a lot going on, but it all tied into the story and also prevented the story from being so typical or predictable as some “romance” novels can be. I appreciate the portrayal of black love and positive characters.
But…you know there’s always a but with me…the editing was a concern. There were errors such as word confusion (here/hear), missing quotation marks and what appeared to be NO understanding of comma usage. It didn’t prove as a distraction but it was definitely an annoyance because this book could have been more with proper editing. I would strongly suggest the author seek another editor for future releases. I also did not like the cover. On a shelf competing against other books for my attention, this one would easily be overlooked.
That said, “Night of Seduction/Heaven’s Gate” is a good book and one I could easily recommend to others. I can see myself checking for another Iris Bolling book in the future.
Thanks for the recommendation, Tea. ~The Power of Readership~
Night of Seduction/Heaven’s Gate It has been a long, long while since I read a book that had me laughing, talking out loud to myself and simply grinning. I truly enjoyed these two stories. I started the book last night and read until I was delirious with sleep. I awoke in the early morning and continued to read until I finished. The characters were relatable as if I knew them and was a fly on the wall as the entire story unfolded.
The story reminded me of Waiting to Exhale, Terry McMillian’s book not in the subject matter but how the author was able to capture your attention and kept you coming back for more. I couldn’t put the book down for more than 5 minutes once I awoke the next morning. It was like being a teenager and reading “Waiting to Exhale” until the wee hours of the morning and taking the book to school because I just HAD to finish the book. Now I'm scared to read my next book because I feel like the authors won’t live up to the expectation that I received from reading Iris Bolling “Night of Seduction/Heaven’s Gate”.
The funny thing is I found this story by looking at the status of my Goodread friends and found this book. Usually I look at what everyone is reading and look at the book description to see if it’s interesting me. The description sounded different however I was intrigued enough to just see and I am so thankful I did.
This is a definite re-read. Like I can see me reading this several times. I’m even going to buy a copy to give to my non-Kindle friends (if it comes in regular book form). I can see my mother calling me to comment. :)I’m so happy. Now I gotta get to my workout that I put off and my studies.
Btw, I hope to read something on Jasmine, Kiki, Tyrone and Kiki’s brother. One can hope and wish right?
Wow, this book was a roller coaster of up and downs with the LaToya drama, but the core love stories were certainly there. Eric & Siri, and Jason & TK loved hard, and the romance and steam between these two was at a 20...super hot. The supporting characters were a great additions to the story especially the moms Kerrie & Miriam. I'm hoping Ty and KiKi get their own book because we saw the beginnings of fireworks between those do, and I definitely want to see how they end up. This is definitely a must read.
I did NOT want to put it down...and yet I didn't want it to END to soon...the full cast is engaging and UNFORGETTABLE...quite a PAGE-TURNING romantic treat...and I hope there's a sequel coming soon...WELL DONE, Ms. Bolling!
This book is filled with love finding some who thought it would never happen. Jason finds a beautiful photographer. Eric finds a beautiful teacher and author. Ty finds a lawyer who is brilliant and determined. Some issues do appear but are resolved in a great way. Loved this book and it's author is fabulous.
What the devil meant for evil, God turned around for good!!!!
The devil in this story is none other than Latoya Wright gold digger extraordinaire! She initially set her sights on singing sensation Eric Davies who saw her coming a mile away and did not give her the time of day. What Latoya was looking for was someone to take care of her for life and seeing the one she wanted was not interested, she set her sights on his brother. She got pregnant by Jason who allowed her to live in his home to keep his daughter with him until he fell in love with Tekaya a self employed well known photographer and all around beautiful person physically, personality wise and humanly! The same night Jason met Tekaya, his brother superstar Eric met Tekaya's sister Siri! Eric and Siri spent an electrifying night together and they too were smitten with each other! The old folks used to say hell has no fury like a woman scorned. The woman acting scorned in this story got just what her hand called for. She entered a relationship with Jason brother to Eric and a well known music producer for the sole purpose of getting paid. In the end after all of her scheming she ended up behind bars for attempted blackmail and extortion. On the other side of malicious females lives the self-righteous ex mother-in-law of Siri he'll bent on humiliating and harassing Siri that she forgot to cover her own scandalous behavior with the married principal of the school where Siri taught. When her latest attack against Siri played out she found herself off the school board and told by Siri's ex husband that she no longer has a son!!! I wonder if her vindictiveness was worth it in the end? Siri like her sister Tekaya is such a beautiful person that she was instrumental in getting her ex and her best friend together and gave them her sincere blessings. Then there is the ever wonderful agent to the stars Ty Pendleton who seems to have met his match in the person of literary agent to Siri Kiki Simmons! Love was blooming and blossoming all through this book and four women stood behind all of these couples with love, wisdom and always their support and humor! Meet Siri and Tekaya's mom Kerri, then there is Jason and Eric's biological mom and Ty's adopted mom Miriam Grammy award singer, Gabby Jason's housekeeper turned family/nanny for his daughter Sierra/ monitor of Latoya's behavior as protection for Jason and Sierra and finally Nana of Siri and Tekaya! I had to address this review in this manner because good character or not I did not want to leave anyone or their behavior unreported on!!! A really, really great read folks! If you have not read it , take it from me you do not want to miss out on this story. Happy reading everybody.
Because this book.had 2 titles, I honestly thought I was going to read Night of Seduction first and then Heaven's Gate. I didn't work like that. At least not for me. The book flowed so smoothly, it might as well have had one title.
I read this book in one sitting. It was Jason and Eric (Silk) Davies meeting and falling for sisters TeKaya and Siri. I think everyone but TeKaya came to the party with baggage.
I loved the way TeKaya dealt with baby mama Latoya but I didn't agree with the access she wanted to give her to Sierra. Someone who us as dangerous and toxic as Latoya, I would not want my child to have to interact with her.
I wasn't sure about Siri because she seemed to be more on the timid side and more willing to let people disrespect her. She didn't come into her own until almost the very end.
I like the way Iris Bolling handles problem children in her books. Bad behavior is dealt with expeditiously. There are always consequences for their actions.
Ty Pendleton worked his magic and met his match in Kiki. Ty had made brief appearances in both the Heart series, and the Gems and Gents series, so he was not an unfamiliar character to me.
There were a few things going on in this book. It was not hard to keep the issues or the characters straight. I liked the way the book flowed. There was a good amount of intrigue, humor, romance, and heat. When I got to the last page I ended up with a smile on my face.
I enjoyed this story of two brothers falling in love with two sisters. The bond between the siblings and each other as a couple was amazing. Eric and Siri were made for each other. Their love story was so sweet and emotional. While Jason and TeKaya's story was sweet as well, I liked the humor they shared. Loved the Kerrie and Miriam and the support and advice given to their children and their relationships. I also enjoyed getting to know Tyrone and Kendra. I can’t wait to read Tyrone’s book. Bonus in the book was Nana "Um hmm".
5 stars I am a hopeless romantic and Iris Bolling delivered once again. Can't decided who's romance I was more invested in Siri and Silk, TK and Jason or Ty and Kiki. Rooting for them all but you know there had to be a bad guy or rather bad girl LaToya in this case, in order for the story to be so good. I just know there had to be a sequel to follow up on Kiki and Ty's romance.
This was a hot book right off the first page. I knew that Silk Dabies would end up with his girl and that she would be the one having a baby first. I knew that Nana was watching him and Siri and they would end up together and I knew that that Latoya would end up going to jail cause she was money hungry didn't even care about her daughter. Awesome read

A wonderful book. This was my first reading something by Ms Bolling. Can wait to your other books. I love romance with a little hint of mystery. Question have we seen the last of Latoya?
This story of two brothers falling in love with two sisters was simply amazing. Eric and Siri were made for each other. Their story was so emotional. Jason and TeKara was also sweet but had more humor. I can’t wait to read Tyrone’s book.
Both couples had to go through hell to be together and at the end love conquers all. I’m glad that Siri finally got a backbone to stand up to ex mother in law
Great story Great read Love the chemistry between The brothers and their love interest Can't wait for more stories the strength and beauty of black love Keep the stories flowing
I don’t have words to describe how much I enjoyed reading another book by this author. Ms Bolling is becoming my new go to author for good, enjoyable reading. Looking forward to the next book.
Now this was a beautiful story. In each book Ms. Bolling, have some crazy people , she writes about. This book was no different. That Latoya, was in this book. No matter what LOVE conquer s all.
