I got my iPhone 3G the day they went on sale in Australia. As soon as I discovered apps, one of the first I knew I'd need was one for taking notes. I quickly found Evernote and I've been using it daily ever since. I'm hardly a power user, but I am a regular user and know how valuable and powerful the app can be.

This book assumes a basic knowledge of how computers and devices work, but it assumes no prior knowledge of Evernote. It guides you through all the basics, leads into some advanced uses of the app, and then finishes with ideas on how you can put Evernote to work.

Even though I've been using Evernote for years, and longer than the author, I learned so many tips and tricks that I wasn't already doing that I'll now be able to take a great app and make it even more robust. Because of the simple style of the "For Dummies" books, the way the information is presented can get repetitive but this is a minor point in a book that's so useful.

If you're not already using Evernote, get started today. And use this book to guide you on how to get the most from it.

Very comprehensive book, but most "for Dummies" series are very detailed. I, however, like pictures and color. There is more information in this book than My Evernote, but My Evernote has color pictures of the actual Evernote interface, which makes it more appealing. This is a better reference book though

As a Dummies book, you’re going to get some top level stuff, and this won’t disappoint. There’s 300 pages of tips ranging from signing up for the account through accessing SDK and API. Unfortunately, like many books of this genre, it covers a lot but only an inch deep. If you’re new to Evernote, you’ll find some useful information here. If not, move to another resource.

I discovered Evernote a couple of months ago after I got a Kindle; I absolutely love Evernote for clipping recipes, saving web pages, saving receipts, saving knitting patterns, creating more effective homeschooling lessons, uploading .pdf files (even books), and getting organized in general. There is probably no end to how Evernote can be utilized. It quickly becomes your searchable digital brain, one that syncs across all your devices instantly. The trick is knowing what you can use it for and how to go about managing the information. Hence the need for this book.

This was probably the first book I ever bought on my Kindle and it has been very helpful in learning how to make the best use of Evernote. From this book I learned I could even include photos, audio files, and even handwritten notes in Evernote (using an on-screen stylus). I learned how to encrypt sensitive data within a note. Since there are variations in Evernote from PC to Mac to mobile device to web browser, this book shows the steps involved for each application and device. It also covers the various related apps that are made by Evernote and other companies, that can sync with Evernote (such as Web Clipper and others). It's not long before you amass a huge body of notes, and this book will help you learn how to organize them via tags, notebooks and stashes. I recommend this book to help you get the most out of Evernote. It is a thorough introduction, and then some.

Okay, the author states that because this is a reference book, it isn't meant to be read all the way through. I confess that I did exactly that in order to have a better idea of what the book covers. As it claims to be, it's an introductory guide to Evernote, starting at the very beginning, with instructions on how to choose the account level you need and how to register. Sarna explains Evernote's functions on many platforms: desktops, tablets and smartphones, web browsers, BlackBerrys, etc. By the end of the book, he's covering sharing and open scripting, allowing the reader to go further on their own with Evernote if they want to. I was also happy to see a detailed table of contents, well-linked in the Kindle edition, that will be helpful for looking up material later. This book isn't a mandatory read if you use Evernote, but it's likely to be helpful.

A solid, if unremarkable, reference book. Probably best for absolute beginners to Evernote, but I found a few useful nuggets (e.g. sending material from Google Reader, advanced search syntax) that made it worth my while.

It always amazes me how the "For Dummies" books are so good at introducing you to a topic. This one doesn't disappoint.

Would have liked better examples of practical applications of the ideas in the part of tens but their absence doesn't reduce the great value of this book.

This is the first "Dummies" book that I have not found helpful. I was forced to migrate my SpringPad notebooks to Evernote (not my favorite app because it lacks an aesthetic user interface. I wanted a resource that would get me quickly up to speed using Evernote and this just didn't do the trick.
