Naughty and Nice #5

Wicked Mourning

Rate this book
Widow Clara Blackstone, is a faithful woman who has mourned her philandering husband for the last six months. Sheltered from pity and whispering tongues at a friend's country estate, Clara awaits the birth of her first child with mounting confusion. Despite the tiny life growing inside her, she dreams of passion in her friend’s arms. And the erotic fantasies grow more compelling every day.

When Reginald Moore's wife died in the arms of her lover, Clara's husband, he whisked pregnant Clara away from false friends to protect her from the strain of the scandal. After six months of mourning, Reggie is done thinking of his faithless wife and, despite his originally noble intentions, he longs to have Clara in his bed—unborn child and all. Are his skills of persuasion enough to convince Clara to choose a new life with the one who stood by her, no matter how improper it might seem?

Author's note: this story contains a red hot romance between two wicked mourners around one rather large baby bump.

A Naughty and Nice standalone regency romance short story.

The concept upon the book was based was pretty damn good. Unfaithful spouses die together and the two decent mourning widow and widower eventually hook up together.

Really though, it was not as hot as it sounds. It more went like:

- I've always wanted you.
- Oh really? I never realised!
- I want to do you and then marry you and adopt your dead unfaithful husband's and yours unborn child.
- Yes! Yes! Do me now please! I'll blow you in exchange.
- We're such wicked widowers!
- Yes, love, we are.
- By the way your former mother-in-law is standing by the doorway, watching us screwing our brains out.
~ giggles from both widow and widower ~

So you get why I didn't get hooked up on this, don't you?

Okay, so I don’t know why everyone is giving this free short story such bad reviews. I actually really liked it. I gave it four stars because it was written very well and I love reading about the Victorian era. I love how they wear these massive gowns and how they are just so hard to get into. But never forget the chaperone that cannot leave you alone for one second so you have to run away and hide from their watchful eye. Ah, love it!

This short story is basically about two mourners who have lost their spouses. Clara lost her husband and Reggie lost his wife. They both died in the other’s arms. It turns out that their spouses were cheating on them with each other. When they passed away, Reggie invited Clara to live with him in his country estate for as long as she desired. They had feelings for one another but never acted on them until now. Clara is pregnant but her husband never knew. He died before she even had the chance to tell him. She was never unfaithful to him. She loved him but now had feelings for Reggie.

I actually saw this story as very sweet. Reggie gave everything to Clara that she wanted when she was mourning and he grew to love her. He wanted to be the father of her child and care for the both of them even though the baby wasn’t rightfully his. Even pregnant woman need a little love. She was six months pregnant which I am sure isn’t that big. He wanted to marry her and have a family. What is wrong with that? Whatever. It was a great free short story. And I recommend to all who have a taste for passion.

This reminded me why I don't particularly like historical romance. The metaphors. The tropes. The imitation of complex grammatical constructions. It's damn hard to write a good story in this genre.

This short story tries too much; it's nothing more than a couple of lukewarm sex scenes with some weak plot in between. And, on a side note, there's nothing wicked in the characters' mourning. Nor in their intimate encounters.

After reading the synopsis, it was my mistake on thinking that this was a real full-length historical erotica. To some extent, it was that, without the length. It's been a 2 days since I've read it, so I don't think I can write a decent summary, but even if I did, there really wasn't much to summarize - the synopsis says it all.

Overall, it was pretty decent for a free read, I guess, but I was disappointed so I cannot really recommend it to anyone who's looking for a real historical erotica. It was more like a condensed HR. The author had a lot of story to work with and fails to use it all. I mean, the whole story takes place over a 24 hour time period...

This book was a waste of time. I'm not comfortable only giving it one star because it wasn't badly written or anything, it just seemed really pointless. The sex wasn't anything groundbreaking and it's a really short story. So short that you finish it and think, that's it?

But it's free on Amazon, so if you have a Kindle and twenty minutes free...

I know this was a short, but I wanted a little more depth to the characters, a tad more information on the exes, and not to feel like I was left hanging in the end.

Set in Regency England, Wicked Mourning is a single moment in time for our hero and heroine. Reggie and Clara escaped to the country six months ago to avoid the scandal caused by their deceased partners, whose affair was discovered upon their death. However, Reggie and Clara have had enough of mourning and decide to find release in each other, away from the watchful eyes of Clara’s mother-in-law. Clara is also pregnant with her deceased husband’s baby…

Reggie was a great hero; caring, charming and gentle with the pregnant Clara. That being said, the sex in Wicked Mourning was perhaps not as ‘erotic’ as the title and cover indicated to me. I would definitely call this ‘sexy’ as opposed to ‘erotic'.

One thing I didn't enjoy was that Clara’s mother-in-law (MIL) was a little overdone, in my opinion. She really added a suspense element to the story (i.e. that Clara and Reggie had to sneak away and steal time in order to be together) but the scene where Clara, Reggie and the MIL ‘take tea’ together felt a little forced. She’s obviously a mean-spirited person, but I felt this could have been portrayed in a more subtle and creative way.

Overall a good read and I would definitely seek out more of Heather Boyd's books in the future.

Okay I was expecting more than what this book actually was from the description. There was not any parts of this book that were wicked or anything. I was expecting an erotic regency book. But what this book is actually about is two people that have lost there spouse. Granted that there spouses were together and having an affair but it did not go into the affair. Nor did it have any wild romping sex scenes.

Maybe it is me but when someone puts erotic in the description of a book I expect something erotic scenes in the book. There was nothing erotic about this book. It was just a short story of two people having sex. I am glad that this was a free book and I did not pay anything for it. I would be asking for a refund.

The bunnies and I give this book 2-Carrots.

Wicked Mourning by Heather Boyd is an erotic Regency romance. If Jane Austen wrote smut, this would be it, a saucy blend of clever banter and steamy sex.

Clara Blackstone is the pregnant widow of a philandering husband. She's been residing at the country estate of Reginald Moore, the widower whose wife was Mr. Blackstone's paramour. Clara and Reggie have maintained a platonic relationship for months, but their romantic feelings for each other are getting hard to ignore.

I enjoyed the rapport between Clara and Reggie, and their longing for each other is palpable. There's not much that didn't work for me. At one point, Clara said the word "cock," which I thought was a reach, but I was too engrossed in the story to give it much notice.

A fun, hot read!

This is a short story I found for free on Amazon. The only complaint I have is the description did not make out that this book was a historical romance, I do like reading those to but I was expecting a modern day theme and it took some adjusting. This is a short but passionate story, that has some humor thrown in the mix. Over all it was a good read

Ok but not much there

An extremely short story, just a few minutes to read, involving a widower friend and pregnant widow. It is just the small moment where they give in to their love both emotionally and physically. And that's about it. Fine for what it is, but there is not much else there and I 'm personally not interested in pregnant sex so didnt do much for me. If it is within a story where I already care about the characters, it would be different, but when it is entirely just that, it is not for me. Maybe someone else would like this little story more.

In Wicked Mourning ~ Naughty & Nice ~ Book 5, by Heather Boyd a faithful wife is left a widow by her unfaithful husband. His business partner, is taking care of her while she is in mourning as he mourns his unfaithful late wife the lover of her late husband.

The six-months mourning period is drawing to an end when they find pleasure, happiness and a future together despite her late husband's mother trying to make trouble.

Cute story with a nice couple finding happiness together; more nice than naughty.

I Liked it! Did not Love it!

I liked the beginning of the story. I did not like the rest of the story. Even though the 2 main characters had been friends; who were than cheated on together with each other's spouses; it was not ideal to follow suit, especially with her expecting a baby. They should of continued to be caring friends, confidants, supporting the heroine who was stuck with her mother-in-law in the house.

A sexy little story. I agree with the other reviewers and wish this story had been longer. The basis for it is a great concept, and it would have been wonderful to see the couple's relationship develop.

To me, there are three main aspects on a good story, independently of its length.
First the way it's written has to make me feel compelled to read it.
Unfortunately I find this is more about sexual encounters than the story of two distinctive people with distinctive selves, for in a story this short one hot sex scene would be enough.
Then it must not sound repetitive.
Again the sex scenes + the mentions towards their spouses' betrayal and the way they feel about her mother-in-law are described so many times it becomes boring.
Last but definitely not least, in every story the characters depth should be the main priority for the reader must engage with them to extract the full joy of reading their story. Therefore especially with a short story words cannot be wasted in things which don't add to their story.

It took only about 10 minutes to read this, which doesn't really seem like the effort was worth it.

As far as the writing goes, it ways okay ... just okay. I was left feeling that really with just a little bit of effort the actual plot could have been expanded to at least reach Novella proportions, rather than what I consider to be just a very short story.

Therefore a 3 star read, which has gone into my One Offs folder. That notwithstanding, I would probably read something longer by this author in the future.

I enjoyed this short story. It definitely was Wicked. Seldom do you find books or even movies, for that matter, that will broach on the subject of sex during pregnany or show it. I thought it was interesting that a man was so entranced with a woman that he didin't find a full pregnant belly as an hindurance to his needs or desires. At the end of this short story Ms. Boyd gives a glimpse into one of her other stories, "Chills (The Distinguished Rogues ~ Book 1)". I enjoyed it as well. I even put it on my wish list.

One moment in time for these two characters, Reginald and Clara. Neither of them very emotionally attached to their dead spouses, who betrayed them with each other. They finally admit their feelings for one another and succumb to them in a passionate act of love. Promises are made, happiness to their upcoming new lives is felt. Very short story, but sweet with the right amount of sexual tension.

Picked it up for Free on Amazon. Pleasant 30 minutes reading time in the car as I waited for my own beloved to hurry up from a business meeting.

This short story about two people who each have lost cheating spouses to death is lacking in both the eroticism as it seems to be like that impending orgasm...when will it finally explode? If looking for romance again it seems to go this way as Reggie longs for Clara even as she is carrying her late husband's child. But this is not fully described or fulfilled either. The solution would be to lengthen this story to a novel with full character and story development. It doesn't rate a poor review because of the potential, but it needs more to be a good romantic erotic tale.

This was a short steamy romance. Good for a quickie read, especially for the expecting. I liked the characters and their sense of humor and fun. I liked the feeling and emotions that were both fierce and tender. The ending was cut short but great. Will leave you a little hot and bothered and a smile on your face. I definitely liked their attitude towards the mother-in-law. Such a nasty creature, she. I would read this again and might keep it for a go-to quick and fun read. (Kindle freebie) Enjoy!

The story was short and offered a rambling, rushed storyline. We barely get to know who they are, their relationship to each other and how they got to where they are currently before they're jumping into bed with each other. I feel as though the author was either uncomfortable or unsure while writing the sex scenes. They felt forced and the descriptions felt contrived and were laden with sappy dialogue. There were brief periods of promise in the authors writing, but not enough to make me enjoy this offering from her.
