A useful book for getting an introduction to Ayckbourn's considerable body of work, and for getting some understanding of his approach to writing, and why he writes the way he does. There's a certain amount of biographical information, too, and it's interesting to see how much Ayckbourn's association with the theatre has informed his way of writing. He's also an experimentalist, and has been fortunate to be connected to a company of actors who will try out his often novel approaches to comedies. The only negative feature about the book is that it's not easy to see him performed here in my country, so many of these plays remain mysteries, to an extent.
