This cookbook is fantastic. I could call it an ultimate cookbook...the only complaint that I have is that it is a little on the BIG side and it's too heavy...But it contains just about every recipe under the sun as well as techniques, descriptions and colorful pictures. There are rare produce introduced and described...AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a huge book and has many many tried and true recipes in every genre you can think of. But it is an everything but nothing done well book. And there are literally no surprises here, nothing new, bold, or creative. If you want an encyclopedia of the tried and true - here it is.

If you're looking for a robust, but basic, meat-and-potatoes down the middle cookbook, look no further than the 125th Anniversary edition of the "Good Housekeeping Cookbook". This 752-page, large sized volume is loaded with 1,275 distinct recipes that cover everyone of the basic dishes that everyone grew up with.

At the center of the offering are recipes for familiar stalwarts from New England Clam Chowder, to Chicken Parmigiana, Filet Mignon, Huevos Rancheros, whole grains, slow cooking and every kind of mainstream dish you can imagine. There is nothing really exotic or particularly unique in the recipes here, but that, in fact, is this book's strength. It's back-to-basics for the `triple-tested' Good Housekeeping formulas giving meal makers a backstop for preparing meals the way those accustomed to dining on standardized fare expect. While this sounds like a dis, the truth is that there are 100's of specialized, chef driven or exotic-based books in the market. Having a solid, reliable standard right in the middle has proven to have merit for years and continues to serve its purpose today as well.

Perfect for the new chef, this cookbook keeps me from calling my mom every time I have a question about cuts of meat, cleaning techniques, or the specifics of fish. Even on its own, the reference sections of this book have been extremely useful to me, not to mention the huge volume of recipes that are good for almost any occasion.

This is an outstanding cookbook for beginning or advanced cooks looking to jazz things up a little. The format is divided into color-coded sections, clearly marked and annotated. Excellent photography accompanies nearly every recipe and the hardbound binding allows the cookbook to open to any page and stay open!
Directions are clear and easy to follow. So glad I purchased it!

This cookbook covers all the basics (properly baked potato or omelette) as well as lots of fancy stuff. I like it as a general reference for the basics, though I've found that the majority of the recipes are too complicated for me to attempt on a regular day.

A cookbook that has a little of everything. It is not my go to cookbook as the recipes are good but nothing great. I like a few more pictures for a cookbook.

This is a super detailed recipe book. It just happens that I don't particularly like any of these type of recipes. Too many sauces and roasted veggies.
