Revisit the very first meeting of Spidey and Doc Ock in issue #2 of this ALL AGES series. MARVEL AGE: SPIDER-MAN introduces new and young readers to some of the greatest legends of the Marvel Universe, with dynamic art and a contemporary sensibility.
The book I read today was full of action, that really got my attention. Especially, when Spider-Man and Dr. Octavius were fighting. And that's why I think that this book gets 4 stars.
This is one of many comics produced for children under the Marvel Age banner. Marvel Age (now Marvel Adventures) was intended for younger readers so graphic violence and sex was removed and old stories written by Stan were modified slightly by new writers AND a single book continued one story arc. I will read one of each of the featured characters.
Spidey is up first and the book definitely captured the spirit of Spider-man's sarcasm. The illustration reminded of Bendis' Ultimate Spider-man run, which is to say that the characters look a smidge older than they should.
Overall, this was a good read with a lovely little moral to go along with it. The action was good. I had a bit of a problem with The Human Torch hitting on a high-school girl, but perhaps it will go over the heads of the children.
