BDSM Contemporary

Wednesday is released by Vincent, her long-time Master, only to find herself in a new, much more emotionally intense BDSM relationship with Daniel. But is Vincent really out of her life forever? Can Wednesday bear the intimacy of her new lover's demands? The three soon find themselves in an uneasy and sometimes downright contentious love triangle.

Wednesday wants to submit to Daniel, but self-protective impulses and bad memories make their budding relationship a constant struggle. In a world of passion, promises, and power exchange, Wednesday and her lovers must come to understand the difference between being “owned” and loved.

When you make love, do you look in the mirror? –Hell yeah!

Who do you think of, does he look like me? – Nah-uh! Umm.... Tommy Page, you Rick Price asrcasm !

Do you tell lies and say that it's forever? - Yeah, bet your skinny Def Leppard ass!

Do you think twice, or just touch 'n' see? – just touch and scream babe!

Many moons ago , one of the crummy exes had been mouthing moronic elucidations of ‘Love Bites’ and here I was curled up wondering why not just sing an Amy Grant and shut the fuck up! I love Def’s song, not this motherfucking crap crooning like a bastard child of Baltimora swaggering like a bare-ass Tarzan in my bed. Why the hell I’m writing this in a review , I have no damn idea. But , as far as my sexual memory takes me, I reckon this lunacy happened on a Wednesday. I had cut school, a convent is not a freaking 90210, no matter how many chapels you visit asking for salvation. So, here I was desiring a Madonna-esque Enigma carousing abiding certain Principles of Lust. And, all I got was a Pet Shop Boy free falling a Tom Petty. Wednesday is my favourite day of the week and I have this bizarre affinity to the word. But, this had nothing to do with my pick of this book. It’s like waiting for a berry blow pop surprise you – it’s a sucker ..... No! It’s a fucking gum! It’s BDSM......No! It’s a romantic erotica!John Secada or Guns N'Roses.......hmm... Toad the Wet Sprocket it is!

Hurt me. Own me. Take me. Want me. Be my master. Be my slave.

I tried, I brought out my best satin sheets along with my patience. Stop the music. Maybe a Ed Sheeran. How about Lana del Rey. No freaking rhythmic composition then. I obediently read anticipating impressive imagery. You, Vincent, owned Wednesday cracking her virginal coyness with your rugged yet caring touch. Daniel, what the fuck? But, all the recurring heaving Wednesdays gave me was a blessed memory of a bozo in my bed and the cringe fest to “Was it straight? Was it perfect?” on the following Thursday.

Remember me? You sucked me off once, it was great. Then I fucked you, two times actually. And I spanked you over my lap, just to make your lover mad.

Only if all beautiful Wednesdays recollections could stay true to these sentiments laced with a large ass cigar and erase the squirming moments screaming.... Fuck yeah..... Hess is More!

This was a frustrating read for me. On the one hand, you've got moments like this:
But just before she came, the man fucking stopped.

She actually sobbed then. “Daniel, no! Please! Please don’t do this to me. You’ll kill me.”

“Kill you? ‘Here lies Wednesday, total drama queen.’ I’ll visit every week and leave butt plugs on your grave.”
Just about the only thing rarer than a negative pregnancy test in romance is humor and playfulness in BDSM scenes, and I loved that this book went there. It was a unique D/s relationship between two individuals. It even eschewed the collar. Instead, Wednesday wore garters and stockings when their D/s dynamic was "on."

But, on the other hand, the book is 90% sex scene and 10% Wednesday and Daniel hurting each other with their actions. I like sex as much as the next girl, but if it's not advancing the plot, I'm bored rather quickly. A lot of it felt gratuitous. And Wednesday and Daniel? While I appreciated that she had a backbone and stood up to Daniel's obsessive, controlling behaviors, I never felt that the problems were ever resolved. By the end, they still appeared to me as two insecure people mindfucking each other.

So, this one was a mixed bag. I'm being generous by tagging it at 3*, I think.

Wow, I ended up loving this one. I was a little annoyed the hinted "fucked up" little girl with Daddy issues. When the truth came out, I'm thinking, WTF. That's not really so fucked up. Then when we find out Wednesday is only 25 at one point, I'm just confused. I mean, seriously confused and a little disturbed.

Walk with me on this one. She actually met Daniel on her 24 birthday. But she's been with Victor for 5 years. 5 bloody years! That means he had her at 19. We know up front that Victor is in his 50s. Are you creeped out? I am. I appreciate age differences, don't get me wrong. There is quite a large gap between my DH and myself. More than a dozen years. The gap between Victor and Wednesday is over 30 years. He's more than twice her age. Yes, it bothered me. Why? Because I think he did her a disservice as a Dom. The women he trained after? They were all around 18 and 19. Ugh. I just don't like Victor. He's a creep.

I do like the dynamic and relationship between Daniel and Wednesday. I really liked Daniel. He's a loving Dom. He's not perfect either. Although I do love how he has white walls and carpet. Even white linen! (Before I married, I was exactly the same.) A man after my own heart. That is my preferred colour scheme too. If I could have a tree growing in my house, I'd love it. Although the too convenient switches makes me just a little bit nervous. I loved how he associated stockings as the beginning of play. Very cool.

Wednesday, I'm not sure about her. I feel badly for her and understand her inability to express love. I can't imagine what it is like to live with a parent who doesn't cherish the child but sees the child as someone who stole his soulmate. It is too depressing to ponder. It's all perspective, isn't it? Is the glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty? Is the child the last gift from your beloved to be treasured or is the child the murderer to be reviled? Two very different reactions to the same event. Makes me wonder.

The BDSM in this story is very well done, as I would expect from the talented Ms. Joseph. I think this is my favourite book of hers. 4.5 star for me. It moved me quite a bit. I cried out of sorrow for a lost little girl and a man struggling to prove his dedication, love and loyalty. Even the "evil" villain in this story was not so much evil or even a villain. The reasons behind his actions are rather sad too. The ending is a happily ever after so it's still quite a lovely romance. I recommend this to BDSM lover who love a good romance with a happily ever after.

Owning Wednesday was a great read. I also appreciated that it was about a couple relationship instead of the usual bdsm multiplayer orgy. An intense relationship at that. The characters were so tightly engaged, the action felt even a little claustrophobic at times. I think that's what gave the story its exciting tension and edginess.

I prefer the tension that comes from Daniel's obsession with Wednesday, to the lack-of-communication tension that goes with the romance format. Romance plots don't do a lot for me, personally. But this one was well done, for romance.

I also really appreciated the way Wednesday chose to submit and obey, and yet still had a mind that struggled and grappled and was her own. A real person, this girl, not a subbie robot.

The sex scenes? Hot as hell. Enough real control and genuine bdsm; not fluff. (Stern doms get me, too.) The sub-as-toy theme when the two men share Wednesday was particularly hot, but all of it was that way, really; roasted to a turn, with all the juices dripping! Nice.

I skimmed the description of this one several times before I read it. For some reason, it really didn't appeal to me. And then when I read over the first chapter, it confirmed everything that I thought I wouldn't like: I really wasn't happy with what Vincent had done to her.

But then... Wow. She became an actual person. With a job and an apartment and feelings and everything.

Wednesday was really an intriguing character. I didn't realize how young she actually was and what that meant about the length of her relationship with Vincent until near the very end.

I loved the big blowout fight. I thought that was the moment where she really came into her own. And I didn't just like her, but actually respected her from that point on.

It was definitely similar to the Comfort Object series and could have been included within (I kept expecting Jeremy and Nell to show up at the movie shoot), but it was well worthy of standing alone.

4.5 or 5. I just finished it and I'm really not sure.

The book is a surprising twist from the beginning and the excerpt. It is a true romance, love story. In fact, there is a big surprise near the end that really makes the book much stronger and coalesces it into a whole. It contains some serious sadomasochism, but the handling of it and the explanations via the plot make it understandable and touching even if it is not one's particular preference/kink. Joseph makes both protagonists strong and admirable, definitely worthy "heroes" and the reader is elated by the HEA.

“Daniel,” she whispered into his palm, “I want to put on some stockings.”

This is the line I’ll always remember when thinking about this book. It’s sexual, submissive, manipulative, and darkly dangerous all wrapped into one. Owning Wednesday explores a dark, sensual power exchange between the dominant Daniel and submissive Wednesday. It studies the difference between owning and loving a person.

Daniel meets Wednesday when her previous dominant Vincent invites him to a threesome. Eventually Vincent ends his relationship with Wednesday, in effect giving her to Daniel. Whereas Vincent was just a master, Daniel wants a relationship and future with Wednesday. Daniel is a fascinating character. He’s a strong dominant, but he also wants a true open and loving relationship with Wednesday. He moves carefully with Wednesday to ensure she’s moving with him.

Wednesday is just as intriguing as Daniel. Wednesday is emotionally damaged by her childhood. She doesn’t believe she deserves to be loved. She’s scared that the more she loves someone, the more likely they are to leave her. As much as she longs to commit to Daniel, her self-protection instincts are strong. Trusting in a happy future with Daniel is the greatest risk Wednesday will take. Watching Wednesday grow into a happy person is wonderful to watch.

Daniel and Wednesday’s sexual relationship is just sizzling. Owning Wednesday is a true romantic BDSM relationship. It has a dark, gothic feel. This is not a light, fun exploration of BDSM. Nor is it a book, where one of the characters is learning to be a submissive or Dominant. This is a book for people who want a darker edge. It delves into the psychology of power exchange between Daniel and Wednesday, and how that plays into a long and lasting relationship.

If you read the previous version of the book, this version maintains its strong intensity. Initially, I couldn’t understand why the book was being re-released. Then I went back and started rereading and noticed the lengthy beginning exposition in the previous edition. This is gone now. The book is tighter. The best parts of the book are still there. There’s still a live tree in the foyer. Daniel’s job has changed, but he’s still in the movie business. A big change is the purpose behind Wednesday’s white room in Daniel’s home. After reading the first book her white room haunted me. The new version of the book explains the white, but I felt I lost a part of Wednesday’s identity at the same time.

Ms. Joseph’s Owning Wednesday has everything I look for in a book: a strong story, intriguing characters who grow, a voice that draws you in, and hot, absorbing sex. It’s a darkly sensual BDSM romance. Yet as much as I say it’s dark, there’s something truly beautiful in watching Daniel and Wednesday build a life together. It’s a breathtaking read!

Just coming off of reading her Cirque Series and previously reading her other series, such as Comfort and Club Mephisto, Owning Wednesday was just not up to par. I think I would have enjoyed it more if Wednesday stayed with Vincent. I kind of liked that dynamic better. Daniel was an out of control Dom. He was whiny, always asking why Wednesday let him do things, flying of the handle during a scene. And let me say that the book was mostly scenes..too many scenes. Where was the plot? Unless the plot was Wednesday throwing tantrums, being difficult and talking back to Daniel. I could go on but I will stop this review and I stopped reading the book.

I still love Ms. Joseph's books. She is actually my favorite m/f BDSM author. This one just didn't do it for me.

This was almost a four star, I'm still vaccilating back and forth, but ... I don't know, I didn't feel a connection to the characters. This may not be a reflection of the writing however, it could just be my take. If you're looking for hot bdsm sex you can consider it a 4 star, if you're looking for character development and a great plot, it's a 3 star. So...how's that for a weird review. lol.

What to say about Owning Wednesday. Honestly, hands down one of the best books I have read in a really long time. Her understanding and relaying the workings of a power exchange dynamic was refreshing. Yes there was sex but that is not typically the basis for power exchange. There were several little things that added to this story that if you remotely understand the concept then you fall in love with the meaning. Rituals, protocols, even play on occassion. Vincent is easy to hate but honestly power exchange in that way is not always bad just different. Daniel, on the other hand was so grossly different than Vincent it was easy to love him. Wednesday, sweet, loving and sometimes awkward Wednesday. It was difficult for her to find her way in what she wanted and also needed. It was wonderful to watch her grow as a person and into her own. Coming full circle and confronting the big elephant in the room.

I would recommend this book to anyone PERIOD. It is well written and easy to read. It is hot when it needs to be and doesn't sit back and lounge around on the sex. There is actually a good plot and story. I found all of the characters to be interesting and unique and very easy to engage in.

This is not your average love story.

Daniel met Wednesday when her Master, Vincent, invited him for a threesome. Vincent used to be Daniel's professor in the Uni. Not long after, Vincent ended their relationship. Daniel swoops in and they settle in a relationship where they struggle on how to make it work with Daniel's controlling nature and Wednesday's desire to find herself.

Daniel is indeed a loving Dom, but he is not perfect--not even close. He is possessive, almost obsessive! Wednesday, on the other hand, is rather emotionally damaged--sometimes even unstable; the result of her father treating her as if she was nothing but dirt. Wednesday and Daniel's relationship is what I could only call 'volatile'. I couldn't decide who was the messed up one in their relationship!

What a fantastic read! I LOVED it! Well written, easy to read, easy to follow. Their relationship was complicated and explosive and realistic.

I do not recommend this for those who want nothing more than "GlitterKink" reads. This isn't dark... but almost.

Relatively short book, but it felt long-drawn. There are simply too many pages with sex. Ironic, I know. But fact of the matter is that many of the sex scenes don't do anything besides adding more sex to the book. And throughout it all you're desperately trying to grasp hold of the story that's there somewhere, but it's so shallow and plain that it barely holds your interest.

I mostly struggle with how the author tells you how the characters feel about each other, and how they're doing, and what has happened in their lives. Oh they love each other so very much. So the book says at least. You don't really get the build-up, the interaction between them, and the moment that makes you - as a reader - feel that they really love each other as much as the book says, because you feel some of it too.

There's also too much timeskipping over events that would be interesting to actually hear about in detail. It lends itself to that shallow storyline.

smart smut.great angsty arguments. vincent is a father figure and not big part of the story. the lines are blurred here. daniel is confused about loving her versus owning her...she is too. kink factor 4. really good editing and continuity.
I would have liked to see a deeper discussion of both their backgrounds and motivations
lots of great quotes;

"i'd like to have her alone"

" darling, who's in charge here?"
"you are."
"I am. aren't I?"

"listen, you crazy fuck"

daniel is a bit of a drama queen. but he's hot. I like him.

This is the first book I've read with nipple to clit clamps/chain. I Love it. I'm obsessed with them. Of course, in the book, they never fall off, IRL, they always fall off. LOL.

I have a lot of feelings about this book. Some parts of it I hated Wednesday and other parts I felt like I was Wednesday. I'm not sure I'm ready to examine it any deeper. Suffice to say it certainly was a book that got me thinking and reflecting. It's also HOT. It is not really like Comfort Object even though it is similar on the surface. 4.5 stars!

Oh I really liked this - and I totally fell in love with Daniel right from the first !

Wednesday is a lovely sub - amazingly so, even after 5 years of Vincent's domination; and no, I did NOT like Vincent.

A lovely fall-in-love-at-first sight Dom/sub story where the relationship feels real rather than proscribed!

Owning Wednesday by Annabel Joseph

This was a different kind of story for me and I kept going back and forth from liking it to not liking it. I finally settled on liking it because of the ending.

I believe what made this story more difficult for me were a couple of scenes where Wednesday was treated as a thing and not a person. The distinction of ‘owned’ versus ‘loved’ was really apparent to me in these and harder for me to understand. I was fine with the masochistic parts but the debasing names both those she called herself and what others called her isn’t my thing.

There were also a couple of inconsistencies like the mention of Vincent being her only partner before Daniel however, Vincent regularly shared her with others so apparently that didn’t count. Also a big deal was made about Wednesday being the way she was because of her childhood however, I didn’t feel that the explanation at the end was any great revelation. Least you think this book was all hard and dark there were tender and loving moments that softened this story and made it a romance for me.

Overall a book that broadened my horizons and an interesting read.

Owning Wednesday is an intense romance story about a couple engaged in a 24-7 power exchange, D/s relationship. Even though reading about the explicit activities at this level of power exchange pushes the boundaries of my comfort level, the beautiful, "angsty" romance between Wednesday and Daniel kept me in for the long haul.

Annabel Joseph's contemporary characters are so real that I have to remind myself that this is fiction! If you think you would like an explicit bdsm romance story in which the Dom is NOT a billionaire CEO, then I suggest you give this one a read.

Note: not for minors, explicit bdsm romance

I have to say that this book is the best BDSM book I've had the privilege of reading. Annabel Joseph knows how to use amazing descriptive words so that you become a part of the story. I was Wednesday and I loved the delicious torture.

If you haven't read Annabel's books...start here. But he warned it is full of BDSM with an amazing Happily Ever After. There were so many wonderful twists and turns. I'm just so glad that I closed the book feeling that Wednesday found what she had been looking for. :)

I dont know what to say about this book i read it because i wanted to finish it. I didnt understand the relationship at all i kept getting the feeling Wednesday never really wanted to be controlled but her issues makes her believe she does. She fought it the whole time and i didnt understand why Wednesday and Daniel couldnt just have a normal relationship. i felt the BDSM took over there relationship most of the time althought Daniel said he wanted to be a normal couple. So i just have nothing to say about it has a whole.

I've read lots and lots of Annabel Joseph books by now. In general I'm grateful that she writes those books and she's definitely an important person for this genre. However I am becoming increasingly frustrated with her books because they seem very repetitive.

Wednesday is bratty, rude, whiny and has clear, serious mental issues, Frankly, she is one of the most unlikable and annoying "heroines" I have read in along time, thus reading the book was slow and painful.
