Eric hates the cold weather and his broken down car, which means venturing out on foot into the sub-zero temperatures. Navigating the icy sidewalks, he runs into Omar, literally. An impromptu hot coffee on the cold day finds that tattooed and pierced Eric, and government IT guy Omar might have more in common than they expected. When Omar is called away, before he can get the guy's number, Eric believes it may only have been a pleasant winterlude to temporarily distract him from the cold, or is there a possibility his winter will get a lot warmer?
I'm a single mom to a great adult daughter, and I have a full-time job as well. I started reading m/m romancein 2008, then went to reviewing and then writing.
Some dares and prompting of friends led me to the role of author and they've always been my biggest cheerleaders.
4.5 stars. Very good short m/m romance about two guys who literally run into each other on a wintery Ottawa street and decide to get to know each other a bit better...
A cute and sweet story about Eric, who crashes into Omar while trying to make it home with his groceries in the icy weather. I loved the hunt for the piercings :) A good first story from Tam.
3.5 stars The winning element of this short story is actually a good grasp over cultural differences. I'm a Muslim, so it is nice to read a character talks about Muslim (and its practice, like fasting, Eid celebration) NOT in a negative way. Even if Omar doesn't identify himself as Muslim but for me, that is a plus. On top of that, the sex is pretty hot, with games of piercing hunt (yeah, you need to read that to know what I mean). The main character is likeable and I like his inner monologues.
Winterlude is such a fabulously funny and sweet read! I loved Eric and Omar's chemistry, in and out of bed. Both are likable guys and they make a hot couple. I'd love to read more about them, actually. Because this was way too short and I could use some more of Eric's humorous thoughts and his and Omar's easy, fun banter. But nevertheless a perfect, cheery read and a great debut!
I liked Eric and Omar, who bump into each other on a freezing cold day. They're both curious about the other and start getting to know each other. The cultural differences were nicely mentioned, without making them a big deal. There is a lot more I'd like to know about how their relationship develops!
2.5 stars. I thought this was ok, nothing memorable. I found the writing style to be a bit flat. I liked Eric and Omar but they didn’t feel like three dimentional characters to me. Maybe I would’ve felt different if the story was longer allowing time to develop the characters and the storyline.
Tam Ames makes the rugged Canadian winter a character in this story. The weather dictates everything: how Omar and Eric meet, how much ogling they can do, where it makes sense to go, and how much effort it's going to be to get undressed. Winterlude is a skirmish against the elements.
The story is sweetly humorous – within a few paragraphs we get a feel for Eric's witty if grumpy personality. Omar can sling the humor right back. His ethnic background is more a getting to know you talking point than a plot point, but it's good to see a character with a different cultural viewpoint. The men are in easy accord; their trajectory from snowy street to bed is pretty straight. The story's charm lies in the banter, the sex, and the struggle with the winter more than any struggle with each other. It's a nice pick-me-up on a day you need a smile. 3.5
Entertaining story from beginning to end. Well-written, fun and very sexy. I loved how Eric and Omar are so at ease with each other. Great chemistry and oh boy, the hunt for piercings was hot!
Cute short story about two quirky guys hooking up in the depths of a Canadian winter. Tam did a great job of making all those winter clothing layers both funny and sexy!
