GUINESS GANG
Brothers and sister--though miles separated them, they would always be a family.
Rating 3.5 stars The heroine of this book really got on my nerves. Yes, she had been dealt a bad hand but some of the choices she had made were equally bad. She is a famous model who brings down her mobster boyfriend, a man she hated, who hit her and blackmailed her into getting involved with him. My problem was the blackmail part. The reason was flimsy, he found out her real identity as a girl who grew up with a violent father and whose mother killed the said father when things would have turned ugly. What I didn't get was what the hell was her problem if it came out her mother was in prison. She would rather get involved witha man whose touch she hated? It didn't gel with me, besides that she is quite a cool customer who has perfected the art of hiding.
The hero Mitch though knows there is more underneath and wants to find out so that nothing bad happens in his assignment to relocate her. Jessica of course has other plans which are pretty stupid at times. Still the book was not all bad just dramatic.
Even though she's written this book under a pseudonym, I found here the underlining darkness that screams of Lisa Gardner books : not as deep as you might think, but a hurt character I could almost relate with and a story that enthralled me. What else is there to ask for ? Read it !
Alicia Scott is the pen name of Lisa Gardner and it is clear from this book what exactly she had to offer the wider world of thriller fiction. This story is book two of the Guiness Gang and tells the story of Mitch Guiness, special operative in the Witness Protection Program. He is supposed to hide Jessica Governee, supermodel, but she is not what she seems and that irks Mitch. Jessica doesn't trust any man, not even Mitch, but there comes a time where she no longer has a choice and no longer wants one. It's a fast-paced story with enough sexual tension to keep the romance strong but you read this for her attention to the littlest details that made her a strong thriller fiction writer.
This is my fourth favorite book in the Guiness Gang series by Alicia Scott. Very strong lead female character but it takes a little while to warm up to her. I think that might have been the point. Anyway, it's very good and worth the read.
