I received a copy of this novel from the author in return for an honest review.
It's always a bit of a gamble when a blogger agrees to accept a novel for review, really we have no idea what the book is going to be like. We normally only have the author/publishing company's description of the book, or maybe a blurb to go on. When I accepted this novel I was really unsure what to expect, the blurb, if I'm totally honest, is weird!
Thankfully this is one novel I'm very glad I accepted, it's a quirky read, but it's definitely worth it.
This is the story of Rib, who steals a winning lottery ticket and runs away, throwing him into a pretty crazy adventure.
Although the beginning of this novel is a little slow, the pace quickly picks up and continues at breakneck speed for the rest of the novel.
This novel is made up of a number of different threads of plot, about different characters, but these threads come together towards the end, meaning most questions are answered! (I said most as their are some questions left open, presumably for the sequel!)
The characters in Big Frog are some of the most interesting I've read about in a while, Rib is clever and brave, but not perfect (stealing lottery tickets anyone?!). Rika is a girl that Rib travels with for a little while, and she was an intriguing character, I need to know more about her! She had some really great sassy one liners.
The author also does a good job of creating a different world to set the novel in, and I liked the Global Warming aspect. It's very well described, but it's also different from normal dystopian settings and that was nice for a change.
Overall I really enjoyed this novel, I think it is a novel with a unique setting and plot, and I am very much looking forward to reading the sequel!

Just brilliant! Compelling, clever, funny and thought provoking. Almost every character is dedicated an entire episode (I say episode, rather than chapter, because i feel i have just been privvy to an epic film!) thus enabling you to build a deep relationship and understanding of their complex personalities and the stages of their lives that have bought them to where they are, bringing forth empathy no matter how dark their souls.
I've met new friends, laughed out loud and worried deeply during the adventure I've been part of whilst reading the Big Frog and through the cleverly written narrative, and brilliant engineering of the story, I've been left with the thought that one day this could be a stark reality.....
I've finished reading.....but miss my time spent engaged in what seemed a reality.
Truly captivating.
I've met new friends, laughed out loud and worried deeply during the adventure I've been part of whilst reading the Big Frog and through the cleverly written narrative, and brilliant engineering of the story, I've been left with the thought that one day this could be a stark reality.....
I've finished reading.....but miss my time spent engaged in what seemed a reality.

I very much enjoyed reading Big Frog. I found myself moving right along with Rib through the entire story. I was able to vividly imagine the citidomes, rainforest, the quirky characters and more. I greatly enjoyed references to things that I had familiarity with from living in California and the U.S. as well as references that were particular to the U.K. Rob did a nice job of incorporating past worlds in a future context. I usually do not enjoy reading dystopian novels - usually not to my liking. However, Rob's book created a sense of adventure, comedy, and future society that was interesting and fun to read.
