An alternate cover edition exists ACE here.

He knew it was a dumb stunt from the start. A midnight run through a cemetery to impress a couple of girls is hardly the stuff of legend, but Alex Carlisle longs to escape the crushing mediocrity of life after high school.

Then he stumbles upon the ritual, and the cultists, and two bound and bloodied women. Alex intervenes and the ritual blows up in his face, leaving him bound to them both: Rachel and Lorelei, an angel and a succubus. It’s hardly the sort of challenge a guy can face with dignity when he still lives at home with his mom.

Alex never imagined falling for an immortal demon seductress, or that he’d spend his nights dodging her co-workers, her old boss, and every other supernatural freak in Seattle. He never thought a woman like Lorelei could have a rival like Rachel, either. But then, nobody ever said adulthood would be easy.

First, a warning....this book is a guilty pleasure. It will NOT appeal to everyone.
It is a story designed to appeal to a geeky person who doesn't mind reading lots of sex scenes. The nice guy does heroic things, with little prep but bolstered by a good attitude, and as a result, gets lots of ever more amazing supernatural sex and adventures.

So...why do I give it 5 stars? Well, I guess I fit the target demographic. The characters are fun, I enjoy the plot (and some of the mini-plots), and I have found myself re-reading it several times. At the end of the day, I rate books in part by how well they develop, the quality of the writing, etc....BUT the fact that I will choose to re-read a book several times is worth bonus points.
Chalk this one up as one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

I hesitated to read (listen to) “Good Intentions”. It’s not lesfic, and the book summary sounds like an adolescent male’s fantasy more than anything I’d care to read. But listen to it I did…and wow am I glad! Despite being “bound” to 20yo Alex, Rachel the blond foul-talking angel, and Lorelei the gorgeous succubus are both strong, independent women and VERY likable MCs.

The book is astonishingly creative and entertaining, and the narrator Tess Irondale does a wonderful job bringing the story and characters to life. In some ways, the book is like an adult Harry Potter – it explores themes of friendship, love, lust, greed, evil and goodness with many terrific characters and an immersive fictional world.

Rather than say anymore (spoilers!), I’m going to close with an enthusiastic 5* ranking, and quote the warning from the book summary than induced me to take a chance on this book:

“WARNING: “Good Intentions” contains explicit sexuality, violence, nudity, inappropriate use of church property, portrayals of beings divine and demonic bearing little or no resemblance to established religion or mythology, trespassing, bad language, sacrilege, blasphemy, attempted murder, arguable murder, divinely mandated murder, justifiable murder, filthy murder, sexual promiscuity, kidnapping, attempted rape, arson, dead animals, desecrated graves, gang activity, theft, assault and battery, panties, misuse of the 911 system, fantasy depictions of sorcery and witchcraft, multiple references to various matters of fandom, questionable interrogation tactics, cell phone abuse, reckless driving, consistent abuse of vampires (because they deserve it), even more explicit sexuality, illegal use of firearms within city limits, polyamory, abuse of authority, hit and run driving, destruction of private property, underage drinking, disturbances of the peace, disorderly conduct, internet harassment, bearers of false witness, mayhem, dismemberment, falsification of records, tax evasion, an uncomfortably sexy mother, bad study habits, and a very silly white guy inappropriately calling another white guy “nigga” (for which he will surely suffer).”

Great book, good story, good characters.

Best part of the book right here

(Slight spoiler here beware!)

“Oh,” Rachel shrugged, “just that Baal is dead.”The two angels taking hold of Lydia both stopped and blinked. Vincent’s scowl cracked, overcome with disbelief. “What?” he asked.“Yup. Dead. Slain. Wasted. Kicked the bucket. First he was all, ‘Rawr! I’m a duke of Hell, bitches!’ and then he was like, ‘This is my turf! Welcome to Castle Cocksucker!’ and then he was all, ‘You’re all gonna die!’ and then it was, ‘Fuck, this sword hurts!’ and finally he was like, ‘Oh fuck, I’m dead!’”

Good intentions could easily have been a trite pornographic book about nice guy with an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other. It could have been a shallow, erotic, morality play. It could even have been a nice guy finishes first wish fulfillment story with a harem of gorgeous, sexy, shallow, supernatural women.

It's not.

Instead, it is a very well written, funny, unanticipated book. The characters and their motivations are well thought out, the sex fits the story and is emotional (erotica) instead of pornographic (explicit). The good guys get their hero's rewards, and the bad guys are fun to hate and suffer their just deserts in a horribly entertaining fashion. The plot, story, and characters twist and turn unexpectedly, but never unbelievably. Even the protagonist's angst is not overdone and is actually relevant to the story.

This book isn't horrible, it just got boring. I'll open it on my Kindle and see I'm at 26% and still have 8 hours and 59 minutes to go, and I just can't make myself carry on. I'm tired of seeing it wait for me. I've decided to have an official breakup with this book, remove it from my device, and go eat ice cream.

Note: Date Finished = Date I Gave Up

This was like a wet dream for geeky good guys. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m all for geeks in general, and good guys in particular. Good guys are for real my jam. I’m all for them getting their happily ever after, but this book took wish fulfillment to a whole ‘nuther level.

Our main dude, Alex, gets to have massive amounts of mind-blowing, consequence-free sex with a succubus he saved in the middle of a creepy wizard’s binding ceremony. The binding accidentally gets transferred to our hero. He also gets magically bonded to an angel who was a part of the same ceremony. Now, he’s being lusted after by two hot supernatural chicks. Lucky.

But wait.

[Here, things will get mildly spoilery, so run away if you don’t want the plot ruined for yourself]

It gets even better for Alex, because his new succubus girlfriend talks him into an open relationship, wherein he can (and should, she insists) have sex with as many women as he wants to, while she stays faithful to him. He’s a sensitive, nineteen-year-old guy, ok? He’s a little jealous. No problem. She’s content to find Alex girls and experience their sexy times vicariously (her bond with him means she can feel everything that happens between him and the other women). And Alex just has such deep emotional connections with them all. How lucky. Right?

It was a little tiresome, actually.

Especially when his new guardian angel (Remember the one he saves at the beginning?) decides she wants in on the action. She’s been watching him teach a succubus how to feel genuine love, not to mention peeping in on all his naked action with a myriad of young women. She’s impressed with his huge heart, his willpower, his bravery and selflessness, and his enormous man parts. (Wait? Did I forget to mention he’s also hella endowed? My bad. See what I mean? Luckiest guy ever.) No problem. His succubus has been hoping this would happen for Alex. She wants it for him. And she wants the angel for herself, too. And that’s when the three decide to be in a healthy polyamorous relationship and live happily ever after. Oh! And Alex still gets to sleep with other women ... but his two supernatural girlfriends are only allowed to have sex with him ... and each other. Lucky. Fucking. Dude.

Other stuff happened, too. It wasn’t all sexcapades. Some feud-y type things happened between demons and angels in the area. A group of sorcerers and witches joined forces with a bunch of local vampires to do some shenanigans. There were fist fights and explosions and a short trip into hell. And we got several glimpses of Alex’s former lives, each of which ended heroically, while he was young and unfulfilled romantically. Lucky for him he saved the succubus and angel in the first chapter, because they think it’s high time he finally experiences every goddam good thing a geeky good guy can handle.

There was a lot going on.

And it was looooong. 22 hours on Audible. It helped get me through a week of nonstop sewing I had to do for a high school musical this weekend, but I didn’t devour it like I usually do with other fluffy reads. I often chose to listen to news rather than put on my headphones and dive into this story.

Now, I’m done sewing and can pick up a print book. I’m dying to continue The Arm of the Sphinx. Don’t anybody even try to come between me and The Books of Babel series until I make it through book 3.

I really liked this book.

For a first novel, it was outstanding. There were many typos in the ebook, but it was fairly easy to overlook and context was never really sacrificed.

OMG. It was so funny. The author seems to have a talent for hitting my humor buttons. The primary guardian angel character says some of the funniest stuff I have ever heard, mainly because you'd never expect an angel to say it.

Sex, sex, and more sex. Ordinarily, this tends to turn me off, as I'm not usually into porno novels. Somehow, the author made it work. Yes, if you are not into erotica of any kind, please don't pick up this book. But if you can stand the Laurell K Hamilton descriptions of some guy's schlong every other chapter, then this won't bother you and you may even like it. But there is a LOT of sex, and it seems actually integral to the story--the main chars are all involved with a succubus!--so it works.

The story flowed well and the characters were pretty good. Except that almost absolutely every character in the book got laid, often repeatedly, it was easy to suspend disbelief and really enjoy the story.

Did I mention how funny it was?

I bought this one on a whim a while back as I got the audio for £2.99. That seemed like a risk worth taking for a 22 hour audiobook that had a narrator in Tess Irondale that I knew was going to do an excellent job with the audio and that had a story that sounded pretty similar to Succubus by AJ Markam but was going to lack any of the LitRPG elements of that story. Good Intentions was one of about half a dozen books I got on cheap Whispersync deals as my last Kindle Unlimited deal was winding down. I was in a risk taking mood at the time and as it stands Good Intentions has been the most successful book of the batch. Not that it is much of an impressive accolade considering I've not bothered to get to 5 of the 7 books I bought in the batch with Good Intentions and the other book I did get to Life in the North was pretty awful!

In terms of story this one was always going to be a big risk. We followed the story of Alex Carlisle as his life took a weird turn. While sneaking into a cemetery late one night to take some pictures he hoped would impress a couple of hot goth girls in his college photography class he stumbled upon what appeared to be a rape in progress in an run down old church on the land. Things took a turn for the weirder from there as the potential rapists turned out to be a weird cult who had been in the process of completing a ritual to magically bind an angel and a demon they had summoned to their leader. After barging in Alex managed disrupt the ritual, free the angel and demon, and wound up getting bound to them instead of the cult leader! Life only got more complicated from there for Alex as he got sucked into the supernatural world with all its crazy creatures and problems.

I figured this series would be similar to Succubus. That series was a mix of erotica, action, and a ton of humour. I was expecting the same from this one as that is how the blurb sold the tale and to a degree that was just what the story delivered. It just did not deliver quite as much humour as I was expecting. On the whole this tale was probably 60-65% erotica and 35-40% regular UF tale. The erotica was abundant but all still fairly tame stuff. A lot of male wish-fulfilmemt harem nonsense that I do not see appealing to anyone outside of the target demo or who has a poor tolerance for erotica in general but for all that there was nothing here that was particularly offensive.

If anything surprised me it was the sheer amount of time the story dedicated to the erotica or the weird harem romance elements of the story. It really was the main focus of the story with the UF stuff just added in to add a bit of extra depth to the overall story. With a run time of 22 hours I was expecting more comedy or more UF story. The weird thing is that this still ended up being a fairly engaging tale. I've been reading a lot of LitRPG lately and Elliott Kay knows how to suck in a reader and tell an engaging tale a lot better than a lot of the LitRPG authors I've been listening to of late as he has a fairly engaging writing style and the pacing of the story was pretty good.

I'm so-so on erotica in general so I was hoping for more story than we got but I'll not complain too much as the story we did get was engaging enough for UF/PNR tales and both the world and the characters were interesting and likeable enough to keep me listening.

All in all this was weirdly engaging for a story that was mainly tame wish-fulfilment erotica. I'll give the second book in the series a go but I do fear I'll not last the distance with this series as the harem stuff tends to increasingly annoy me as it progresses in series like this one.

Rating: 3.5 stars. I'll round up to 4 stars here on Goodreads as this was an engaging enough tale.

Audio Note: Tess Irondale did an excellent job with the audio.

Re-listened May 2019. This was my first foray into the Harem genre and I feel I was a little hard on with my original review. Since this series I have been comparing every other harem book to this wanting it to be as good. Most of the time the books never held up when compared to this series. So, I thought I would listen to it again. I found that the story didn't hold my interest as much the second time through. I still see everything I liked about it the first time but I also notice all the things I had a problem with the first time as well. I still don't get how Taylor could call Alex her best friend, be willing to risk her life for him, want to have sex with him all the time because of how great he makes her feel and then say she doesn't want anything serious? I am not sure you can call something like that a booty call if there is that much emotion involved. Don't get me wrong, I loved Taylor and I missed her when she was absent in the 2nd book, that part just seemed to be the most unbelievable about the whole thing. I understand friends with benefits, but I am not that sure about best friends with benefits. I don't think I will listen to the rest of the series again. I still have a high opinion of the series and I don't want to lower it in my mind in anyway. Original review below:

This was book porn, more along the lines of soft-core than hardcore, but without the sex this would have been a very short book. This is a new style of reading for me, most of the fantasy books I usually read do not have a lot of sex in them. This book is trying to straddle the line between love and sex. The main character, Alex, breaks into a cemetery to take pictures. While he is there, he finds a ritual being performed where an demon and an Angel are being tortured and enslaved. He intervenes and in the process, he is the once that becomes the master for both the demon and the Angel. The demon is a succubus and sex is her weapon. Desires and sex is how she heals. So the demon starts having sex with Alex and this in turn makes him sexier to women, enough so that they all throw themselves at him. The demon wants this because the more sex that Alex has, the stronger she gets.

The author tries to tone down the sex somewhat. Alex is apparently an all around good guy. He is the type of guy who has been permanently been placed in the "friend-zone". The kind of guy that all women love, but none of them really want to be with him. Except, now he is super sexy, but the author does not want to change the character so he remains that "great guy". This is the weird part for me. If a woman can find a great guy and wants to have sex with him all the time, what else could they want. In this case though, every one of the women he sleeps with only wants to "have fun" and they don't want anything serious. Despite this story being about angels, demons, and magic, I found that to be the most unbelievable part of the story. The author also tried to make the reader feel more comfortable by saying that no one Alex was with could get pregnant or end up with any disease. He did not sleep with anyone who was married or underage, and no one who was in love with someone else (unless all parties agreed and where okay with the situation). Again, the most unbelievable portion of the story. That being said, I thought it was fun.

I think most people would be okay with this story, even the ones who are religious, except that remember I said both and demon and an Angel were bound to Alex. I think anyone with a strong religious background might really dislike they way the Angel was written. This Angel had a worse mouth on her than any other character in the entire story. This story also gives an unorthodox religious view of sex (meaning that heaven believes people should be able to have sex with anyone they want unless it involves breaking some kind of vow).

Overall this was fun, brainless entertainment. Definitely not for everyone, but an enjoyable listen (audiobook)

I usually avoid "urban fantasy" novels because, frankly, I prefer an actual plot to just a bunch of sex scenes strung together. However, this book came highly recommended by a friend, and so I decided to give it a read.

I'm so glad that I did, because it's a hell of a lot of fun!

It's well-written enough that I stayed up (way too late!) to finish it. It's funny enough that I was laughing out loud. The characters are engaging, the plot is entertaining, and yes, it's *plenty* steamy. ;)

I look forward to the sequel.

This book was clearly written by a man. More like a man-boy.

Really it was like peeking into an unpopular adolescent boys dream diary.

I'm surprised at how bad this book was and why there are so many 5 star reviews for it. It's such a departure from his Poor Man's Fight series, which may not be the best written books, but are definitely fun and have at the very least a fluid plot line.

I won't rehash "the plot" here, but basically Alex rescues an angel and a succubus from becoming sex slaves to some old white guys and then he ends up the Master to the succubus and she proceeds to fuck him until his dick is ready to fall off. All of a sudden every girl wants him and Lorelei the succubus not only encourages other relationships, but he and his other sex partners are free from the worries of disease, pregnancy, and apparently jealousy. Every girl he meets and has sex with conveniently does not want to be in nor is looking for a relationship with him. They just want to basically use him as a sex-slave. That's fair I guess.

The plot line is practcally non-existent, there is no suspense, no real sense of danger or the fear of loss. It's not very funny as eluded to in other reviews and I truly disliked Rachel, a very foul-mouthed angel. The sex scenes were 'shrugs'. There also wasn't too much distinction between the characters. Lorelei is a succubus that has been around thousands of years fucking bad men to death but she had never attempted to do anything good or to help people or prevent pain. She meets Alex and then all of a sudden she's basically just a hooker with a heart of gold. Makes no sense. Then there is Rachel. Again the same. Been around forever. Is supposed to be a guardian angel but it's never established that she's done much good. She basically acts like a haughty spoiled brat that has truly an unnecessarily foul mouth.

There is a subplot about Alex's past lives and that he's some eternal hero that can never find happiness, but that goes nowhere.

There are a bunch of filler characters that get caught up in a bunch of nonsense. Not worth mentioning. Also, this book has the gall of being around 22 hours long! I was forced to forward through an endless amount of poorly written dialogue.

If your into UF books about teenage boys wet-dreams have at it, otherwise don't waste your time.

Loved this book! I have no interest in erotica, but decided to give this book a shot because of the reviews. I was more than surprised at how good it was. The characters are awesome, Rachel's dirty mouth was hilarious and Alex's friends are great.

A lot happened in this book, it wasn't a straightforward type of plot where you have all the characters and conflicts introduced at the beginning of the story and finally have everything resolved by the end. The plot reminds me of Demon Accords by John Conroe because it's an easy plot... a fun plot... a random plot. Alex isn't trying to save the world or bring about the destruction of evil or do anything on such a large scale. He just wants to be left alone with his gf's and live a relatively normal life.

You don't feel like its really a struggle... The author creates problems that you know the main character will be able to overcome. The fun is in watching how he overcomes it. I guess I'd describe it as a lighthearted and fun read.

Unfortunately, he has to deal with a jealous rival succubus, gang members out for revenge from Lorelei killing a gangbanger a while back, sorcerers trying to steal knowledge of a certain ritual for summoning and binding demons/angels from Alex's brain, whole lot of vampires, and girls practically everywhere throwing themselves on him.

All in all, I am a bit shocked by saying this as I don't read erotica but I think it's become one of my most favorite books. Not only do I want a sequel, I want several sequels!

I tried really hard to not like this book. After all, it is about a 19 year old boy, Alex, who, through a black magical ritual gone awry, becomes bound as a Master to both a succubus and an angel. The succubus heals her wounds by bathing in Alex's sexual energy, so she's pulling out all her magic tricks to a) have him hook up with any willing mate and b) ensure that all women are willing to have sex without strings. Meanwhile, Alex is portrayed as a nice guy which means that he rejects the notion of the master / slave relationship (which means he's totally cool with the succubus sexing it up with others... as long as they are women). So, the setup is, like, the ultimate teen boy sex fantasy.

Indeed, the first half dragged a little as the world was built and hosts of other paranormal characters - good and evil, but all so sexy, were introduced. Luckily the plot picked up and became increasingly compelling. Slowly, but surely, I found myself admitting that the writing is smart and really, really witty. And, no doubt, I do love lesbian characters in my reading material. So, yes... Yes. I did enjoy this book. I loved the indie witches. I laughed at the vampires (along with everyone else). I fretted over the Duke from Hell. And I rooted for Alex and his lovers' rutting. And while the male gaze abounds, one must appreciate how the author turns that fantasy all the way up... to 11.

I believe that I will most certainly read book 2 to see where this may go next.

For a very long time I put off reading this book for a multitude of reasons. One is that I knew it was a very long book and would take me some time to finish, and another is that I knew once I started I’d be tested in my personal beliefs when it comes to religion and relationships as I knew this book is big on pushing those limits. I wanted to make sure I was ready to head into this book before I picked it up. When I finally did get to it, I could barely put it down.

This is the story of every good guy’s secret fantasy. Every male, no matter how noble and decent, would love to be placed in the position that Alex Carlisle has been put into. After saving a Demon and Angel from a ritual, he becomes bonded to both without intending to be. At first he’s apprehensive, unsure of what it means to have a Demon being bonded to him, especially since this is no ordinary Demon, but a Succubus – the temptress from Hell. Her charms are hard to resist, and before he knows it Alex’s life is turned upside down thanks to this passionate yet mischievous Succubus.

Sex was practically non-existent in his life before, but now he has it in spades. Every girl he has ever wanted comes running to his doorstep, and with the encouragement from Lorelei – the Succubus – he attends to them all. Through it all he discovers love in a place he never would have expected to find it, in the form of two women. One from Hell and the other from Heaven.

Rachel – the foul-mouthed Angel who he is also bonded – watches over him and can’t help but fall for him. When Rachel, Alex and Lorelei get together it’s a whirlwind of passion and power unseen in any other novel.

I knew this was not my usual read from the start. I usually don’t read polygamy, or anything of the sorts, but figured that if there was ever a time to do so this was it. But beyond that I enjoyed the unique view upon religion in this novel, The idea that not a single religion is correct per se, but rather the idea is that if you are a devout and good-natured person then you may spend eternity in bliss. Should you be a vile, despicable person you are punished in the Pit. This novel holds strong Christian tones, what with Angels and Hell and all, but it never truly says that Christianity is the “correct” religion. Just because you’re an Atheist doesn’t mean you’re damned.

The theological questions that we ask everyday is alluded to in this novel, but is never truly answered. I liked it very much, leaving room for some personal interpretation. It offers a very reasonable statement about religion, relationships, humanity and morality. And about how vampires suck royally.

At the start of this book I didn’t know what to expect, and now that I’m finished I feel much more enlightened having opened myself up to this new genre. I look forward to reading more from this very talented author in the near future.

I read some of the reviews to this book after I had started reading it because I had thought it was so bad. But everything I read was overwhelmingly positive, so I carried on. My big problem with this book is that the characters are so flat. They are each written with some sort of circumstantial difference or a quirk to make them seem interesting, but then they all respond exactly the same way to everything. Almost word for word even. The whole book seems like a high schoolers wet dream highly influenced by the stranger in a strange land mindset. He can run around and fall into whoever he wants and every single one of them is like "that's ok, I like that you have sex with everyone. In fact, let's just all do it together." I'm not saying that there aren't people who would be up for it, but when every single female character in the whole book is.... It makes the book unbelievable and the characters annoying.

I think the kicker was the 'No don't feel bad about sleeping around while simultaneously demanding me to remain faithful to you. Really, I'm the selfish one for letting you sleep around"

I liked this a lot. But it isn't for everyone.

Quite funny with a bunch of good little UF plots but very juvenile in the sexual relationships. It is a teenage male wet dream of polyamory, very unbalanced on the male side. Still the overall story has a lot of fun going on. The main character is too good to be true, yet the humor and the plot lines still work. You end up liking him. I didn't love him. The pacing of the book is the strangest that I have read recently with a bunch of novella type plots with threads leading into the finale which is finally built up into a final plot line that is more complete than the plots leading into it. This final plot doesn't really start until about the 65-70% mark. Since the book is nearly 500 pages, that still leaves a good portion to go.

The premise is that the main character saves a demon succubus and an angel in the middle of a blood and sex ceremony that would bond the two to the evil sorcerer preforming the ritual. Alex interrupts and attacks the men and in the processes bonds with the succubus. The angel and succubus have been affected by each other and a little good and bad has mixed in. So now Alex is being trailed by a succubus and it doesn't take long for him to give in to her charms. Along with her charms, we find out that any sex that her "master" has, fuels her and will help her heal. This is the set up for a lot of the rest of the sex in the book. So we can get over him wanting to screw and screwing multiple people throughout the book.

For the first 1/2 of the book, the Angel has little to do with what is going on with them other than she now watches over Alex. Alex is changing the demon and it is getting a lot of attention from the angels. Along with this attacks by other demons, hook ups, and witches, we get past life experiences thrown in to show how screwed up Alex's past lives have been. It makes an appearance in the end but during the reading, you are not sure what the past has to do with the overall story. Really it doesn't, not until the very end.

It was a fun romp and pretty original for me. I'm not sure that I'll read on as I cannot imagine this story and little side stories staying as fresh as this first one. Maybe one more. This book can easily be read in stints as there are good stopping points as one plot ends and another begins. I put it down for a few days while finishing up a couple of challenges. Actually it was nice to take a break from the characters. I didn't have any problem coming back to it either. It was nice to come back too. It is like, I've had enough of that kind of humor for a bit and go to something more serious. Yet, coming back to it isn't a problem.

Not for everyone, depends on your humor bone and whether you can get with an unbalanced relationship with the male being overly sexed up. If you can, you are taken along for a ride through angels and demons, vampires and witch covens, friendships and enemies. Silly and fun.

Good Intentions and entertaining outcomes.

Alex Carlisle leads a somewhat dreary life until on a stupid dare he interrupts an arcane ritual and has an Angel and a Demon (Succubus) bound to him. What follows is a surprising good story with an interesting main character, a good supporting cast and a surprisingly deep story.... That and a whole lot of adult material!

In all a cleverly written story with a sympathetic cast. Just head the warning in the blurb and you should be just fine.

5 STARS. To anybody who wants a fun, gripping, funny, and loads more......they should really pick up this book and give it a go. Don't be skeptical. Just read on, let the book get to you and in the end you will feel really good that you actually spend the time to give it a try.

Don't worry it isn't some smut book you will get tired off. Though it has smut in it, it just furthers the story. The author actually manages transitions between different POV's in a smooth manner.

Good book

Disclaimer: don't read this if you don't like erotica. Definitely don't read this if you don't have a sense of humor that encompasses general irreverence as a rule.

This was a really fun read. I spent the weekend with a book I had a blast listening to. (I'm on the 2nd book now, and I'm enjoying it as well, but the first was more all-out fun.) This book is an homage to the reserved, shy, geeky, nerdy and/or quiet nice guys. It does a good job of showing why nice guys are worth a lot, and how they could--believably (imo)--wow the panties off all the girls. By being nice. And considerate. And why that matters. (Not just the lip service.)

Is it also a geeky male fantasy (scratch the geeky part)? Yep. Absolutely and unashamedly. So are grimdark books, but I don't feel like vomiting quite so often after reading the sex scenes. (See panty comment above.)

Oh, and the erotica...

me feelin' hot hot hot /shimmies.

Highly entertaining Urban Fantasy-Erotica that includes a succubus, angel, witches, sorcerers, vampires, werewolves. The story centers around Alex who is a normal college student who stumbles on a black magic ceremony and while trying to save the two young women being bound and raped finds himself bound to both a succubus and an angel. It is funny with a solid UF story wrapped around plenty of erotic sex.

I used to be a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer back when that show was airing. Good intentions feel very Buffy inspired, only a bit more smutty. Overall I loved the world, the characters and most of all the overall tone of the book which again is very Buffy-esque.

I listened to the audiobook version of this one and narrator Tess Irondale deserves a special shout out. Her performance is absolutely fantastic, I would go as far as calling this the best audio adaptation I have come across.

Let's not beat around the bush, there is a lot of sex in this book and that is not going to be to everyone's tastes. However, if you are willing to look past that or even allow yourself to enjoy it as the guilty pleasure that it is, you will find this to be a surprisingly good read.

Good intentions went above and beyond what I expected from this book. After reading a few reviews I was thinking that this would be a light hearted and fun book that would be easy reading and little more. Whilst it was all this, light hearted, fun and easy reading, it also had a very in depth story that had me hooked almost from the beginning.

The strength is clearly the characters that were created in the novel. Each one is given a strong story arc and more importantly, the chance to grow. It helped me get attached to each of them and when the final climactic trouble starts I found myself genuinely routing for these characters.

Behind the characters it is hard to tell what else rose above the rest to make this a good read. The fantasy was well written and didn't take back seat to the erotic encounters, neither did the erotic encounters take a back seat to the exciting action. Basically this is a book of surprising balance that keeps the reader interested.

Good Intentions is well written, funny when it needs to be, scary when that is called for and the action (of all varieties) is well written and engaging. If I had to pick a fault with the book it would only be that somewhere around the half way mark there is an explosion of POV scenes from different characters that can make it hard to get settled for a while. This isn't nearly enough of a problem to stop the reader from enjoying the book, just something that irked me for a short while.

Overall this was a thoroughly enjoyable and surprising book that has left me eager to read the sequel. I recommend it to people who are looking for a light hearted, guilty pleasure set in the fantasy genre.

So, have YOU ever wanted to fuck your guardian angel?

There were some very good things about this book, and some things that made me roll my eyes. It was a good reminder, though, that I'm not the intended audience for EVERY book.

The characters in this book are a riot. My favorite is probably Rachel, the long suffering guardian angel. Trust me, you've NEVER met an angel quite like her. I loved every single one of her scenes, and I'm imagining her and Castiel (from Supernatural) going on an angel road trip across the US. But, that's my own little fan fic fantasy. I also really enjoyed Alex's friends, and kinda wish they each had their own books.

Oh, and if you're not a fan of sex scenes, don't even think of picking up this book. This is a VERY sexy book. Hotter than your average romance, and hotter even than some erotic romances. Well written sex scenes, too, which makes them all worth reading.

So, what didn't I like about it? Sadly, the two main characters. I liked Lorelei most of the time, but there were times when she really worked my nerves. Or, actually, when I felt like I was being pushed to like her whether I wanted to or not. Meh. I'm not for that. Plus, as a big fan of Rachel, I thought she was pushed to the side way too much in favor of Lorelei. MORE RACHEL!

And Alex. *sigh* I wish I'd liked him more, to be honest. It just seemed like he was a little too heroic. Every girl wants to do him, every guy wants to BE him. Right? No. That's not the kind of main character that interests me. Plus, he just seemed really young. Yes, he was 19, and maybe THAT is my problem with him.

Will I read book 2? Maybe someday. I'm curious enough about the secondary characters to see what happens next. Should YOU read it? Well, that depends. Have you ever wanted to fuck your guardian angel?

People get turned on by different things and since this is an erotic work I will simply say that depending on your personal taste and preferences your enjoyment/rating of this book will vary.

I don't like the urban fantasy erotic works where a girl has the problem if she should choose the sexy vampire or the smexy werewolf. Then they spends 600 pages pondering what choice to make. This book doesn't do this. I think a lot of girls will find this work enjoyable despite being more catering to men. The theme of the book is love and I think a lot of people will like Elliotts version of it.

I stayed up till 5 in the morning and then woke up two hours later to stumble off to work...

Yeah, a review's not gonna happen now...

8/26/14 I passed out. Then slept for 13 hours. It was glorious. School started yesterday! I have so much homework to do... I'm not gonna avoid it this semester! I did that last semester and it Sucked! So! Bad!

Somehow, even though there was a ton of sex in this book, it didn't feel gratuitous. I liked the characters but there was just something... iffy about the character development in a couple of places. It was funny though.

Not my style of writing. The characters seemed flat and it just was boring and too strange for my taste. I abandoned reading it at 15%.

This was both an incel wet dream and a total waste of time. I'm a bit confused by all the positive reviews to be honest.

I admit I gave up on it as it was very long but the 30% I did read was pretty bad. The story felt like the one handed fantasy of a 16 year old boy. Two female supernatural beings fall head over heels for a 19 year old virgin (who lives with his mum) based on the fact that he's 'good' and cares about their feelings. He's not like all the other guys blah blah blah. Not that the beings have any real feelings; they talk a bit like robots from biblical times and are only really interested in fulfilling the every fantasy of their new virgin master. The women have no opinions, desires or fantasies of their own. They literally have no sexual preferences. The woman that the protagonist spends the most time humping can only feel pleasure through him. So if he enjoys it, she will! How convenient. They can also conceal themselves so that his mum doesn't notice. There isnt really a good description of their appearance which was odd; they are both just 'thin' and 'hot'. The 'demon' has black hair, the 'angel' is blonde. I imagine this is to help tell them apart.

The other women in the book (at least in the first third) behave in such a weird way that I became convinced that the author has never actually met one.

Granted this could all have improved if I'd stuck with it. However, far from being sexy and erotic it was tedious with all the same artisitc merit of pornography just with a much, much, much longer build up.

Not So Quick Thoughts - I read this as part of a silly goal I have to find good Romantic Fantasy books with a male protagonist. This was the book that constantly came up when I googled it so gave it a shot. The premise is interesting enough, a college-aged man ends up magically bonded to a succubus and an angel after he accidentally stops evil wizards casting a spell. Cool! Here comes the slow-burn enemies to lovers romance, or so I thought. The protag and the succubus get intimate within the first 30 pages which was honestly a bummer. Then they keep being intimate and the succubus tells the protag that she needs him to be with other women too because it'll make her powers come back faster. So the protag then proceeds to get with his high school crush, his college crush, his college crush's girlfriend, his guardian angel and a random Victoria's Secret employee. He also beats up his high school crush's jock ex too because power fantasy! Also, every single woman in the story is okay with the protag sleeping with multiple women at the same time and they all love him because "he's different" which apparently just means following the bare minimum of social etiquette. This book honestly felt like an incel "nice guy" power fantasy harem book. It has some interesting lore and concepts that sneak into the 2nd and 3rd acts which was nice, but it never came together for me to create a satisfying experience. I'd only recommend it if you are explicitly looking for poly harem erotica.
