Bighead is part of the Solo series by Barrington Stoke. It is also dyslexic friendly which I think is a very good tool for schools. I know from my past experience in School that sometimes people with dyslexia can be overlooked, so by bringing out a series of books that are Dyslexic friendly I think Barrington Stoke have done something brilliant and very worthwhile.
Bighead focuses on a school band that wants to make it in the big-time. They perform at assembly and are told by the other students that they aren’t very good and that “Bighead” is a good name for them. However there is one teacher at the school who believes they can make it in the big time and offers them the supporting slot at one of his band’s concerts.
I liked the characters in this story. I especially liked Andy. He is in a wheelchair but it doesn’t stop him from having fun with his friends. They in turn are very supportive of Andy and with the help from their teacher devise a chair that Andy can play in and move around at the same time.
I think this book will be a big hit. I give Bighead a 4/5.
