I love Barbie when I was child, I watched all movies about Barbie. I also watched this movie too. This story talk about a girl who turns into a mermaid only to find out her mother is the mermaid queen and needs help defeating the bad queen trying to take over. I love the drawing and color, and I love everything about Barbie.
Grownups may be shocked to learn that there are at least FIVE books based on the 2012 animated movie "Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2," but oh there are. There are. This review is for the Little Golden Book version, but there is also a Big Golden Book version, a Junior Novelization, a Storybook, and a Step Into Reading version subtitled Surf Princess. The source material for BIAMT2 LGB is truly a kitchen-sink story, with mermaids, Kylie Morgan, Merliah, a new holiday where you make Merilliah, Snouts the baby sea lion, a surfing contest, an evil rainbow fish named Alistair -- pretty much everything (except for Barbie, who is totally MIA). Adapting this overstuffed tale into 21 paragraphs and still having it make narrative sense was an impossible task, but if anyone could handle it, it would be Mary Tillworth. She has written over 100 books for children, and this book had to have been her most difficult assignment. For adults, the text raises more questions than it answers, but for kids I can confirm it is a solid hit even without having seen the movie, let alone Mermaid Tale 1.
