Six foot tall and spicy hot, Sheriff Daniel Galvez wasn't the kind of man women said no to. Unless you were Lauren Maxwell. Years ago, Daniel had worked a case that had destroyed her family…and her trust in men.
Now Lauren's come home, a trauma doctor, all cool-eyed and distant. Still, something about this brave woman stirred up Daniel's emotions. Lucky for him Lauren needed a strong lawman to help her safeguard a battered teenage patient. Holed up together, Daniel swore to bridge the distance between them—even if it meant having his own heart broken again.
I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.
Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.
After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.
Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.
I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.
I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.
Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

Tough to rate this one. Had lot of problem with the audiobook. I remember lot of inner dialogue and pinning. Glad this one had Hispanic main characters.
The female character, Lauren, is the main physician in a small town, she is the daughter of the former mayor, who five years ago was discovered to have embezzled funds from the town as well as hiding the existence of a second family, committing suicide not long after. Lauren struggles with acceptance from the townsfolk, her loneliness and memories of an attack in her youth. The male character, Daniel, is the town Sheriff and son of Mexican immigrants. He built up the case against Lauren's father out of vengeance after his father died working on one of the building sites the mayor owned, he has struggled all his life with poverty and his desire for Lauren, both her and her seemingly perfect life. Working together they come across a runaway 15 year old Mexican girl, who was smuggled illegally into the U.S. with promises of a better life but was instead sold into child labour and sex trafficking, and brutally raped, leaving her pregnant and scared for her life. Lauren and Daniel shelter her at Lauren's home, while the FBI work to bring down to gang responsible before they find them. All the while Lauren and Daniel have to fight against their attraction to one another and deal with issues from the past that presents hurdles to their happiness.
I really liked this book, I found it interesting that the two main characters were not directly in danger, only indirectly by setting out to protect the young girl. The attraction between them is well developed and the emotional baggage they both have is used well, but not so much that it's all we read about. The story of Rosa, the young girl, was heart breaking, and for what is usually considered a light hearted genre, this was quite a hard hitting subject matter, which only serves to remind us that, unfortunately, this is something that does happen in the world. The ending, well it's pretty cheesy, but it's worth it!
WOW what a story, handsome Sheriff Daniel Galvez is six feet of yummy... the ladies are always after him for dates. He loves his town and everyone in it, always going the extra mile for anyone who needs help. Lauren Maxwell is the only Dr in the town of Moose Springs. She is back after her father the mayor was arrested for years of corruption and stealing from the towns funds. She is trying to make up for what he did in her own way. Daniel was the one who found out what her father was doing. Daniel has alway had a thing for Lauren, but now whenever they talk it is like strangers. Lauren doesn't know the Hugh part Daniel played. While he is in her clinic after getting wounded, her gets a call about a hurt young girl. Lauren goes with him to offer medicinal help. Both are shocked when they find a 16 year old girl half beaten to death in the back of a truck in freezing weather. Lauren also finds out she is very pregnant. When they learn all that has happened to her, Lauren offers to help her with a place to stay. Daniel will only let her if comes along to watch over both of them from who ever is trying to kill Rosa. Shut up in Lauren small house during a snow storm, both Daniel and her have to deal with their feelings for each other. Each learning things about the other. With the killer's still lose, Rosa trying to cope, and feel safe. Both Daniel and Lauren with have to decide what they really want. You will laugh, cry and cheer for the character's ... Once you start reading you will not want to put is down...
This book is a fictionalized version of life today - both good and bad. As always, reading a story written by this author will bring tension, heartache and romance. The events in this book are horrific and the next chapter will make you smile. Dr. Lauren called the small town clinic, home. She had grown up in this town, suffered devastating loss of family and came back to be the local doctor. The local Sheriff Daniel Galvez had long admired and loved this beautiful young woman but she was out of his reach. This book covers some harsh topics of human trafficking, corruption and terror. I loved reading this story.
It's not every day that the physician daughter of a crook ends up falling for the sheriff who brought her father to justice. It's not every day that a physician of a small town helps to rescue a young woman who has been sex trafficked and nearly killed when she escapes and threatens to tell the police what she knows.
But that's what happens and what then transpires becomes both a race to find out if the girl will really escape or be killed before she can testify and what happens between the doc and the sheriff when each realizes how the other feels.
I would actually give the book 3 1/2 stars. I liked it. It had the potential to be a very good story. But it has a little too much repetitive internal dialog-do I love him, do I not. Also, am I the only person that felt cheated at the end? What happened to Rosa's friend Consuela ? What happened to the other men involved the ring? Were all the the girls rescued? NADA -nothing even mentioned about Rosa's friend.
I totally judged this book by its title. I thought it would be the usual story of a man and woman trapped in a cabin during a storm, but lo and behold, it was so much more than I expected! I didn’t realize I’d be met with thrilling plot twists, bursts of action, and such an intense love in the air. It’s amazing how I could actually feel their chemistry leaping off the pages! I love, love, love this book!!!
The story was exciting and interesting. It descriptive language of how
I've and caring can have lasting changes in someone who is abused and neglected and needs understanding, love and unconditional acceptance to grow into a person who is sure of herself and can contribute to society and have self esteem and judgement.
This is the second book in The Searchers series that I've read and it's another great story from miss Thayne! It was good to revisit Moose Springs and Cole from another Searchers book.
Daniel was the police officer who discovered her father's body, after being arrested for embezzlement. It was discovered he was also a bigamist, and he hung himself. Although he's been attracted to Lauren since High School, Daniel never thought he had a chance; she rejected him years ago when he asked her on a date. Then Rosa, a young girl and a human trafficking victim, brings them back together.
It can be read as a standalone, although part of a series. There's just the right amount of suspense with a bit of romance. Great strong female characters!
Lauren and Daniel have been tiptoeing around each other for years. She a doctor- he the sheriff- they are thrown together when a young pregnant girl is found beaten nearly to death . They must work together to keep her safe and protect her from the brutal traffickers while the fbi tries to break the ring.
This one should get 3.5 stars. A good story with several turns that surprise you. Things that happen that can get people confused and heart broken. Talking is hard to do but could save people a lot of heartbreak.
I loved this one. Thought about all the places and things in Utah that she mentioned and it made me remember home. The story was captivating, lots of turns that I didn't see. Touchy subjects and Mrs. Thayne made me want to read on.
RosEanne Thayne delivers the goods as always, one of those stories that you can't put down.Fast moving, with a whole lot of action.I'll be looking forward to reading more from this author.
Some might like this type of writing, but not my thing. The cheesy lines and inner dialogue were way over the top. like" this soup warms my blood on a cold winter night" and the use of "on a warm summer day". Yup....just not my thing at all.
I really liked this book. It was a story About Trust Living At The Wrong Side Of Town. Women Being Treated Unfairly, About A Loving Doctor And Hot Sheriff. I Have Read Many Of This Author’s Books You Will Like This One.
I nearly didn’t finish the book. My heart and head was not really in it. But I did. I am so happy I did. For some crazy reason I was crying at the end. I was at work crying over a book. Yep the life of a bookworm
I usually like this author's work and this book was no exception. I really liked Lauren and Daniel, their story was very good. I also liked how they were with Rosa. Great plot, great story
3.5 Didn't love it as much as her more recent books. Still enjoyable enough. As always she can weave deep stuff into light books and not make them depressing. Love her happy endings.
