Shadow and moonlight merge beneath her bare feet, the forest floor blurring as she flees the dogs and torches. Werewolf, monster--those are the names given her kind by the humans who hate them.
Hunt

Mate
An isolated archeological site, a terrified Changeling cub, a shadowy research facility--as Kenzie and Josh face the ultimate betrayal, his obsidian eyes promise untold pleasure and hint at dark secrets of his own. . .
"Make room on the keeper shelf--Dani Harper is definitely an author to watch." --Kate Douglas
LEGEND. LORE. LOVE. MAGIC. These are the hallmarks of Dani Harper’s award-winning tales of faeries, shapeshifters, ghosts, and more, for a mature audience.
A former newspaper editor, Dani’s passion for all things supernatural led her to a second career writing fiction. There isn't anything she likes better than exploring myths and legends from many cultures, which serve to inspire her sizzling and suspenseful stories.
A longtime resident of the Canadian north and southeastern Alaska, she now lives in rural Washington with her retired mountain-man husband. Together they do battle with runaway garden gnomes, rampant fruit trees, and a roving herd of predatory chickens.
Dani Harper is the author of Storm Crossed, Storm Warned, Storm Bound, Storm Warrior (the Grim Series), as well as First Bite (Dark Wolf), for Montlake Romance. She is also the author of a Yuletide ghost story, The Holiday Spirit (Haunted Holiday Series), plus a popular shapeshifter series, which includes Changeling Moon, Changeling Dream, and Changeling Dawn.
I'm devastated that I've finished this book!!!!! Dani Harper enticed me to read her books through presenting her stories within eye catching covers! Yes the covers got me first... I love wolves and the synopsis to the first book definitely had me placing the 3 books on my to read pile...
I truly love the way Dani smoothly writes her readers into another world... I was engrossed through both of the previous books and this one grabbed me even more, I loved Connor and Zoey from book 1 and James and Jillian pulled me into the world further than I'd imagined.... then along comes this book - Kenzie's story... and Oh.My.God how much did I LOVE this book!!!!!
Kenzie's story had me from page one... Dani has applied the same smooth writing to Kenzie and her gripping tale but the injection of something small made this story gripping and a firm favourite for me.... Anya!!! I freakin love Anya!!! I won't spoil anything for future readers but this book is wonderful, not only does Anya make the pages a spell binding addiction, you also have Josh... wow is this guy something else.... and then Stanton... he is brilliant... and of course the wonderful brothers are still around and our lovely Birkie...
I am so sad to have finished this book and I am bloody hoping that Dani Harper has other books in the Changeling series in her To Write Pile because I want to know more about the twins!!! They would be so much fun to learn about... and then there are other members of the family too - or even the new pack... Come on Dani, get your skates on... I need more of your wonderful wonderful stories!!!!
Dani takes you in depth with her story and characters. As I started reading I found I couldn’t put it down, I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. What I liked best was the little girl Anya and how Dani tied her with the hero and heroine Josh and Kenzie. It was fantastic. The villains have the perfect roll to give this book the action it needed. Dani has created a world that will keep growing with characters. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next to read.
I never found Anya getting in the way of the storyline or romance. Like I stated she adds more to the story than what I thought possible. This little girl had me in tears at times. I’m just so happy that she got the ending that she deserved. Now, I need to go bug Dani and hope maybe she’ll give Anya her own story one day because she seams really special because from what I read we’ll be reading more of Anya in the future for sure.
It’s always nice to read when the hero is the human. Josh is a very determined man and will stop at nothing to get what he thinks is his, even if that’s calling his future mate’s brothers for help. Yep, that was so cute. I really liked Josh from the beginning; he’s not only determined but hot and very caring. Kenzie is a loner and has to really work on letting Josh in. I really liked Kenzie. She’s very caring, even though she has a small chip on her shoulder that she should mate with another Changeling not a human. So you get some good tension between these too, some of it even funny at times. I found these two really seemed to fit together. They start out with sexual tension and it builds from there and by the time you get to the sex scenes they are really hot.
I highly recommend this book. This book can be read as a standalone. This book get's top bite award!
This is the third installment of the changeling series. This series has a nice, maybe a bit softer approach of the werewolf theme with some shamanic aspects and good psychological insights. No unleashed or uncontrollable beasts here (not among the heroes at least), but a more natural approach for people who really like animals and know their usual behavior. The wolves will sometimes remind you of big overgrown dogs, witch is not very far from the mark as they are/live among humans... and sometimes, they get plain scary ;) Good story, excellent narration, endearing characters and nasty villain, the story of the sister of our favorite changeling pack has it all... noting more to say except read it :)
As you many of you should know (I talk about it nearly non-stop) this is my favorite adult paranormal series. Hands down. I am frequently told that people haven’t heard about it which is like the saddest thing ever cause it is pure writing gold.
The latest book in the series is about Kenzie, the first female changeling in the series. Kenzie has a past with humans and this past clouds her interactions with others. Especially males. This is the first book within the series that the actual age of the changelings is kinda delved into as well.
Kenzie and Josh have instant attraction, but the bridge between Kenzie’s distrust and Josh’s humanity is the saddest cutest little Changeling. As always in Harper’s writing the love story was built on a foundation of trust, love, and respect. The love story was realistic and touching.
One of the best things about this series is the antagonists aren’t simply an evil force without a reason. You can almost always see where the other side is coming from. Ignorance often breeds evil and so it is within Changeling Dawn. Even if you are completely outraged by the way the changelings are being treated you see why they don’t feel guilty for their part in it.
Josh’s own paranormal experience is an interesting and refreshing change within this series.
Changeling Dawn is filled with so much passion, mystery, action and some heart ache (it even made me cry). It is so far the best in the series. Dani Harper brings so much passion into these characters and they seem so real. Kenzie and Josh have amazing chemistry that grabs your attention as soon as they meet.
I read this in 2 sittings, and I can not wait to read more from Dani. She brings something out in her writing and I can not even explain it. I am hoping one of the twins books will be next!
cant say enough about this series!! love it. this book was another great one, romance, adventure, laughs and some sadness all rolled into one...Kenzie is stubborn, Josh is determined and Anya is too cute! love how their relationship has its up and downs. gotta love James and Conners suttle hints about her love life. love the small twist in the end! "Patiently" waiting for the next book in the series to come out!
Setting: farm in Dunvegan, Canada; new archeology dig in Alaskan wilderness near Chistochina; IBC labratory
Theme: survival, evil, perseverance, being open, love
Characters: MacKenzie Macleod – Changeling; 100 years earlier as young cub in Scotland hunters threatened her family and the clan, she ran, fell into a spiked hole, trapped with a dying wolf and still occasionally has nightmares, fostering a distrust of humans. Doctorate degrees in anthropology and archeology. She is searching for proof that Changelings and humans are of the same stock, in anticipation of when Changelings are no longer hidden from humans, to make them non-monsters. She digs alone, finances her own digs, etc. She has been around the world. Lives among humans, but keeps separate and still has fear at her core.
Josh Talarkoteen- native Alaskan, gifted with ability to read the aura of a Changeling, his people have legends of friendships with Changelings. He is Ranger with Wildlife in Alaska, he served 5 years in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot/rescuer, and carries memories (at first in flashbacks, then as nightmares, then as his guide to see trouble) of an Iranian girl, in colorful clothes and scarves, who does not survive her wounds.
Gramma Kishegwet – Josh’s grandmother, taught him about Changelings, and gifts him with a family gold bracelet, given down for generations carved with images of humans and human/wolf, and foretelling of a human/wolf that would someday join their clan.
Dr. Stanton – vet, elderly, raised 6 cubs/kids, wife died, a Changeling. He goes to assist with the cub/girl; and then to defeat IBC.
Anya – 5 years old (looks 5 months old as a cub), Changeling. Her mother was taken, her mother told her to run and to trust her wolf to take care of her until she came for her… She is alone for a number of days when she smells Kenzie, recognizing her as same…
James & Jillian - brother, mated; Connor & Zoey – brother, mated; Culley and Devlin – twins, brothers, not mated; Carly & Jake – sister, mated
Birkie- Macleod family friend, especially Kenzie’s; always knew of Changelings; a witch? – she can pull down lightening, etc.
Summary: Kenzie and Josh meet - on road when Kenzie going to her dig, and Josh’s car with a flat tire… they meet, there is interest, but Kenzie pulls back – he is human (though he recognizes her as Changeling). Kenzie sets up camp, starts dig, and is aware of cub that will come near, but not near enough. She calls Josh, who comes up… and after a day of not gaining cub’s trust, is about to shoot it with a tranq dart – when both Kenzie & Josh finally figure out she is a Changeling. They try to coax her, and the cub starts to hang around them, just not close enough to be touched. They feed her, talk with her, tell her stories. Anya can tell they are friendly, but she’s trying to obey her mother’s warning to stay wolf until she returns for her. Y But when 3 bear cubs tear up Kenzie’s camp, they leave Anya and Stanton to go to Anchorage to buy replacements for 2 days, run into Kenzie’s archeologist, social/money climbing ex-lover Nate, who is jealous of Josh. When they tell him about Anya, he reports it to the IBC (for lots of money – he’s been locating loan Changelings for them to capture for years) – he had found Anya & her mother for the IBC in the first place, Anya ran off, he gets extra money for refinding Anya. And after meeting nate, josh has another flashback of the Iranian girl, and Kenzie handles it… she takes them back to the hotel, she confronts him about pulling away from her, they relax, have pizza, talk (sharing tidbits not told to others), and make love. And Kenzie finally recognizes Josh as her mate.
In the meantime, IBC invade the camp – Stanton and Anya almost get away, but they are trapped between momma bear/cubs and 5 big dogs… Stanton gets away injured, but Anya is hurt. Kenzie & Josh return, but split up… Kenzie sees destruction of camp and is frantic… has words with Josh when he finally gets her message… she goes after Anya, but the Iranian girl (he now sees as a sign/help) directs him to where Stanton is hiding in a cave, and he gets him help. Kenzie runs into Nate going into the IBC complex, goes with him, and Nate tranqs her, turning her over… Kenzie sends mind clues to Stanton, about the 8 other male Changelings being held… and Josh calls her family into help.. and with the pack, and with Birkie, they get in… with the help of the vet, Kenzie is already out looking for Anya… and they gain their freedom – with the head doctor dying… and with Nate biting Josh bigtime in the leg before Josh kills him. They take the research they can find, destroy the place, the captives agree to clan together on Josh’s family land… And Josh and Kenzie spend a month separate, though Josh promised to come for her. And when he finally gets there, it’s explosive… and epilogue has new Changeling Josh romping around with Anya, while Kenzie is digging nearby… ahhhh
Memorable scenes: After a few days with cub, Kenzie trying to learn her name – and plays with her, telling her she’ll call her Matilda, Georgina, Frederica (Fred for short)… and Anya lets a mind speak leak, tells her her name is Anya, and her mother told her not to talk to strangers… ahhhh An injured Josh, sitting against building, holding a sleeping Anya… and when the lightening shower starts, sheltering tough Kenzie under his arm…

Kenzie is the youngest member of the Macleod family. All her sibling have always pestered her about her love of solitude, but the pestering became more imposing once her two oldest brothers found there true mates. They are now so happy, and Kenzie is happy for them, but she knew this is not the life she had planned for herself. She needed to finish her research. Kenzie was researching the history of Changelings; she wanted to prove that they were not so different from humans. She was always in fear the days of being hunted would return. She still had nightmares about when she was a little girl and hunters chased her into the forest, and because of that fear she vowed to never have close relationships with humans. Well that was till she met one human in particular, Josh Talarkoteen was something different, she couldn’t help herself something about him brought out her inner wolf and made her want things that was never in her plans.
Josh was never looking for love but it drove right into his life literally. When Kenzie Macleod came barreling into his town he knew he found the one. She was strong willed, sassy and sexy to boot. He knew she was a shifter right away, his native people have always lived with and around shape shifters so he knew one when he seen one. But in wasn’t till they found the young cub that was actually a changeling little girl that Kenzie knew that he already knew her secrete. Josh could tell that Kenzie had a hard time trusting humans but if he had his way he will show her she can trust him, because he didn’t plan on letting this one walk away.
Someone is hunting the little girl and Josh and Kenzie must protect her and try and help find her parents if they can. The whole story is nonstop from page one, it sucks you in and you can’t wait to turn the page to see what will happen next. I felt there wasn’t as much heat in this book as the other two, but Josh and Kenzie were still really good together. Kenzie has a few issues to work though so that she can allow herself a relationship with Josh, but it’s well worth it in the end for her. Josh loved her since the moment he seen her and is determined to get her to see that if she is willing, she can love him too. Josh also has a few issues with some flash backs of the war but if he just lets go and sees it as a gift rather than a nuisance he might find the help he needs to save the day.
I enjoyed this third addition to the Changeling series but I still say the second book is my favorite in this series I still love James, but I am very excited to see the twins get books it looks like one may just be next. If you haven’t checked out Dani’s Changeling series yet you may want to add to the TBR pile I know you have. This series is quick no nonsense read, you can fly though a book very quickly.

First, let me start off by saying that the cover alone drew me to this book. I mean it’s absolutely gorgeous. Second, I’d like to say that Dani Harper is one of the most talented paranormal authors I’ve had the chance to come across. I’ve not read the first two books in the Changeling series, but I will most definitely be going back and adding them to my wishlist. Her ability to take the paranormal and create it in a way that is absolutely life-like is beautifully stunning!
Being a fan of paranormal romance, especially werewolf novels, I like to try new experiences in the paranormal realm. In Changeling Dawn we get so much out of this story that it takes the reader along time to just sit and reflect on how awesome this novel was. Kenzie, a beautiful archaeologist,a changeling wolf, and very much a loner, is instantly gripping. She reaches out to the reader and pulls them into the story to walk beside her. The reader becomes Kenzie and experiences the adventure through her eyes. Kenzie’s on her way to a dig in Alaska when she comes across the very handsome Josh, a wildlife expert.
Josh is a man who has experienced so much in life. A life of war and pain, he’s now a wildlife expert and has come across a precious little girl, one he knows needs help. One who is very much like the gorgeous changeling woman he’s come across.
As Josh enlists the help of Kenzie to save this sweet little girl, the passion between them can’t be denied. The attraction is more than strong and it’s up to them to bury their past and pain and help a child overcome her fear.
Most definitely the best paranormal romance novel I’ve read to date. I can honestly say that I am blown away with this novel! Rose That Rules All can’t possibly come close to the true rating this novel deserves. While the third and final book in this series, Ms. Harper does a fanatical job at keeping the reader up to date with the series, and it could easily be read as a standalone. Well done, Ms. Harper! Bring on the next!
Favorite Quote:“Okay, okay, you win. One—just one—date. But that’s all.” She didn’t look at Josh, just stalked off toward the nearest exit. “Do you get all your dates by blackmail?”
“Nope,” he said cheerily as he easily kept pace with her. “Only the ones that matter.”
I though I’d prepare my review a little differently this time around. Instead of presenting a detailed overview (which may inadvertently reveal some spoilers), I though perhaps it might be neat to talk about the impression one of the leading characters left with me. Hopefully, through this impression, I will be able to share with you the latest masterpiece in an amazing series written by an author who has quickly risen to the topmost tier of my “Authors to watch for” list!
With the third installment of the Changeling series, Dani Harper continues to share her passion for the paranormal with another terrifically heart fluttering adventure. With release day just a few days ago, I’ll refrain from sharing too much detail but, I will tell you that Kenzie Macleod is one of the best leading ladies I’ve read in a long time!
On the heels of a violent memory from her childhood, there’s no doubt Kenzie has issues she’s yet to come to terms with but, to me, she is the epitome of what a victorious woman would be. While not entirely healed, she is extremely intelligent, determined, compassionate and completely dedicated to stopping history from repeating itself. Kenzie bares the damaged soul of a hunted cub. And, even though she is not aware of it just yet, there is a part of her heart that remains open to the healing that only a true love can fill. Even with her emotional troubles, Kenzie has a tenderness and warmth at her very core that makes her a prime candidate to gather her powerful arms around a child who needs her and to freely offer said child the gentle protection and understanding only Kenzie can offer.
(An excerpt from my review of Changeling Dream)"In Dani Harper's Changeling series, "readers will encounter a realistic and endearing cast of characters from within a super exciting reading adventure that will leave you fully satisfied".
This is the third book in the Macleod Changeling series. It can be read on it's own as a stand-alone. However, I suggest you get the first two books, Changeling Moon and Changeling Dream because they all rock. This one rocks as well, and I swear Dani has me as a fan. I just want to know if she might have a secret knowledge of these changelings and could she introduce me to one... especially if it is a Macleod? ;)
Ah, but back to this book. In this book we become very familiar with Mackenzie (Kenzie) the youngest girl of the family. She is a loner and with good reason. She was terrified as a small girl and kept that terror with her as she grew up. So, with every good PNR, she is given a chance at love not with one she would have chosen, but one she needed to choose. One that could heal her soul as well as her heart.
But Kenzie was not just given one chance at redemption, but two. One comes in the form of a little girl who reminds her of her past, another is in the form of a man... a HUMAN man who also carries his own soul scars. So the question becomes if all (especially Kenzie) can open themselves up to heal the wounds of the past and what is to come in this adventure.
Oh can you tell that I just loved this book? Kenzie is no shrinking violet either. Very strong and determined. Plus, the secondary characters also rock. I swear if you love PNR, you must pick up this whole series. You will fall in love with this family of changelings as much as I have! I give this book 5 stars. I was so in the mood for a good shifter PNR and it so fit the bill!
Kenzie went through a terrible trauma as a child and has never fully recovered. She has now dedicated her life to prevent this from happening to anyone else. But in turn she has isolated herself from everyone but her family. Kenzie is a loner and wants to keep it that way. But fate has other plans.
Josh has suffered his own trauma in his life too. But unlike Kenzie, Josh has tried to face his fears and is willing to move forward. A chance meeting on the side of the road will change everything for these two.
Both are running from the ghosts that are chasing them. But when an innocent girl becomes involved both Kenzie and Josh have to face their fears in order to save her.
I loved Kenzie and Josh. Poor Kenzie has no idea the changes that are coming her way and BOY does she fight them. Kenzie and Josh banter so much it is was really fun to read. Both are stubborn, determined and absolutely perfect for each other.
This was my first book by Dani Harper and even thought it was book three of the series, I didn’t feel that I was missing anything from the previous books. Changeling Dawn can be read as a stand-alone book. But I would recommend reading the first to books. I know I am going to go back and read Changeling Moon and Changeling Dream.
If you have not picked up any of the Changeling books I would highly recommend you get started on this series.
Josh~ "Everything ok?" Kenzie~ "My brother is just being brotherly again. Connor can't stand that I'm out here. I finally had to promise him that if a man dropped out of the sky, I'd date him." Josh~ "Really? Bet you didn't count on meeting someone with a helicopter." She opened her mouth and closed it again, momentarily stunned. ~~~~~~~~~ Kenzie~ "Okay, okay, you win. One-just one- date. But that's all." She didn't look at Josh, just stalked off toward the nearest exit. "Do you get all your dates by blackmail?" Josh~ "Nope," he said cheerily as he easily kept pace with her. "Only the ones that matter" ~~~~~~~~~ These are just a couple reasons I love her books!!!!! They are fun, serious, maddening, sad, exciting and alot more. I am so hooked and can't wait for my next fix!
Pretty good. I enjoyed both Kenzie and Josh. The addition of Anya added to the story too. The secondary characters were likeable as well. I was a bit disappointed in something Kenzie did towards the end of the book. She believed something that a certain someone told her, after that someone had already betrayed her. That was stupid and left me shaking my head.
For a last book, I felt it left a major story-line unresolved. Kenzie's brothers (Devlin and Culley) are likeable and I would be interested in reading their stories (and that story-line getting a satisfactory resolution).
Without getting into a full review, I'll say that I have really enjoyed Dani Harper's Changeling series. The H and h characters are all intelligent and very likable. The steamy romance is well done. The world building is good and has some fresh elements and retains some mystery (What is Birkie?). I sure hope Ms. Harper continues the series, because I want a book 4 and more!!
Decent werewolf story, but loses points because I hate when a strong female protagonist turns into an idiot 2/3 of the way through a story. To be fair to the author, she did foreshadow Kenzie's idiocy so it wasn't completely out of left field.
Dani Harper's latest, CHANGELING DAWN, is a spellbinding tale paranormal readers will love. Fans of the Macloed series will be glad to know the series is still going strong with the next incredible installment.
Kenzie Macleod knows the importance of family, but she also knows the value of working alone. That's why despite her ever growing family, she is heading to Alaska to start her next archaeological dig on her own. On the way, she meets Fish and Game office Josh Talarkoteen. Kenzie is doing her best to not be distracted by the gorgeous man, mainly because she wants nothing to do with a human. Kenzie is a Changeling, an entity that can switch from human to wolf form in a matter of moments. She doesn't see any future with a human despite her growing feelings towards him. Yet, Josh won't give up so easily. He knows what Kenzie is and doesn't feel such a minor thing should come between them. When they both discover a young changeling child on her own, the search is on to find her family. While it may bring Josh and Kenzie closer together, it will also bring them closer to danger.
CHANGELING DAWN does take some time to pick up. The novel starts out somewhat slow and takes a while to get to the point. What really drove this point home for me is that a few times I felt there was some unnecessary detail, which would sometimes bog down the story. I also had a little difficulty getting up to speed with the family and premise of the series since I haven't read the previous installments. As the book progressed, it easily came together to make a great novel, but some readers might find it advantageous to read the first novels in the series before continuing with CHANGELING DAWN.
Kenzie was a difficult character to warm up to. Her character was awfully stubborn and really she has little excitement for life. By the end of the novel you come to appreciate the growth of her dark sided character, but again, it did take some time to become accustom to. Her romance with Josh really starts off one-sided because she is completely closed off to new relationships. Yet if there was one person who could turn that around, it would be her leading man, Josh. He was really rather charming and a fun character. He's the kind of contemporary hero that tries his best to be the macho guy, even though his heroine is a super human chick. You couldn't help but love his thoughtfulness and sweet nature. At the same time, there was an appealing aspect of his character that was intriguing because he was very determined and wouldn't give up on Kenzie without a fight.
CHANGELING DAWN certainly picks up in the middle of the novel. By then, Ms Harper has established a very interesting storyline with different plot points that affect a great cast of characters. What readers can really appreciate is the back story and emotional depth Ms Harper gives her characters. It may not be obvious at first glance, by these characters have strong inner demons to battle and that complexity is a great addition to the journey in CHANGELING DAWN. It not only increases the drama of the story, but it adds much to the readers' attachment to the characters. It also has a quaint cast of secondary characters to keep you entertained. Most become an intricate part of the story, while others will be familiar to fans of the series.
It may have a few problems, but CHANGELING DAWN by Dani Harper is an exciting paranormal read. Not to forget the fact that it's a very sexy read too with lead characters that have stunning chemistry. Ms Harper has a established a great series that fans can easily become hooked on with intense characters and complex drama. It's apparent with the latest installment that the Macleod series is still going strong. Dani Harper has combined all the best elements to make an entertaining paranormal novel in CHANGELING DAWN.
My Thoughts: Dani Harper is a new author for me, and I am so very glad I found her. The covers for her books really drew me to them and once I read the blurbs I was drawn in even farther. So I tried winning one of her books and when that didn't pan out I decided to email Dani, I wanted to read and review her books so bad. Talking to Dani is such a pleasure and right away she agreed to let me review for her. I received in the mail an autographed copy of Changeling Dawn, along with all the covers for the three books and postcards for her books as well. Oh what a happy day that was, they are even more beautiful up close. I started reading and just could not put this book down, it only took me 2 days to read it.
I am so happy I found Dani Harper, not only are her books amazing, but so is she. Dani is such a lovely lady to speak with, so nice, so kind and I just really enjoyed talking with her and once I found out that her love of Paranormal Romance started with one of my favorite Authors Christine Feehan I was just amazed, I don't often hear people talking about her so that was just awesome to share that common favorite author.
This is a series but it doesn't matter which book you start with they can be read as stand alone's, I started with Changeling Dawn. As the MacLeod family is introduced, Kenzie is the youngest, an Archaeologist and Anthropologist and Kenzie is used to working alone, she likes to work alone, but her family starts giving her a hard time about her love life and being alone so much. While on her way to her new dig site, Kenzie stops to help a guy with a blown tire on the side of the road. Josh, oh I like Josh, doesn't take no for an answer, strong, handsome...nope just pure sexy, now Josh is not a Changeling but he can tell who is one, Josh gets that talent from his own Native people, his spark with Kenzie is one he just can't seem to resist. Neither Josh nor Kenzie were looking for love and it was such a wonderful love story to watch bloom, to watch them both fight it.
Kenzie comes to find a Changeling cub and calls in Josh to help her find and keep the little cub safe. Something terrible happened to the little cub and she refused to trust either one of them. This was such an amazing story to read, it was a different perspective of the werewolf I normally read, this story is pack full of action, a love story, family sticking together and against all odds putting themselves in the worst danger possible to say the family and others who needed rescuing. I love Dani's writing style, the story flows seamlessly, the characters built into this family you just don't want to stop reading about, their friends that are so true to the MacLeod. I had so many favorite characters in this book it's hard for me to pick just one, Anya the little cub is just a little darling you just want to cuddle her, Birkie, she is so funny but I am interested to see what exactally Birkie is, she is not a werewolf but has special gifts and talents but does not reveal what she is just yet. Josh and Kenzie, her sister and brothers, its just a cast that fits so perfect together. You just fall in love with these characters, well except the bad guys, but even the one bad girl you will like her, read the book you will see what I mean, I can't tell you or I'll ruin it.
If you want a great book to read with action, a beautiful love story, a fantastic set of characters you will fall in love with, then this is the book for you to pick up. I can't thank Dani enough for allowing me to read and review for her, I can't wait until I get the other two books so I can continue my journey with this wonderful family. Thank you again Dani for doing this with me I have had so much fun and I look forward to working with you again!! I hope you all will grab your copy and enjoy it as much as I did!!!! Enjoy everyone!!!
I'd like to thank Moonlight Gleam for these one! I won a book of my choice from her and requested Dani's book! I loved Kenzie and have been dying to hear from the youngest Macleod but I have to say Josh stole the show for me! More power to Kenzie resisting him as long as she did! I wouldn't have been able to resist him for a second! I laughed so much at his continuing to ask her out, not taking no for an answer and threatening to call her brother Connor! Loved how he eventually blackmailed her into a date and his reasons for why she couldn't say no! He did win me over completely. He did have his ghosts as well though, from his time spent as a pilot in the Afghanistan war. I wonder about what abilities he has and if he can do more then he realises, not as much as Birkie but more then he thinks. The vision of the little girl seemed to give him warnings and help him, makes me wonder if he could expand his abilities further. I love what Kenzie is trying to accomplish and hope she's eventually successful in finding what she's looking for. Loved getting the update on her sibling's as well, espeacially Connor! I was glad when her brothers approved of Josh and that with his help Kenzie seems to have worked through a lot of her issues from when she was a child in Scotland. So many times I wanted to slap her in the book for being so stubborn about not being with Josh just cause he was human! I'm glad she got sense by the end! I also seen an opening for Devlin's book to be next and wonder if events from Kenzie's book will spill over into his? The other stars of the book were Anya and Stanton, I liked Stanton alot, he was a grumpy old changeling but with a big heart! I found myself wishing he'd move to Dunvegan to work with Connor so we wouldn't have to lose his character in the next couple of books! He was pretty awesome and Birkie did give an extra glance when she seen him! I felt so bad for Anya, she was really confused over what to do, who to trust and how much to trust throughout the book. She suffered more then any child should but she also really brought Josh and Kenzie together as well. I'm glad we're not gonna lose her character in the future books. This is the first book that takes place primarily outside of Dunvegan as it's Kenzie's book and she's an archeologist so often works far afield, in this case Alaska. Though I missed easy access to the rest of the Macleod sibling's I enjoyed the storyline alot, espeacially the fact that as Kenzie's trauma is related to her childhood, we learnt a little more about the Macleod family's origin's and past. We also learnt a little more about the oldest sister Carla as well through Kenzie's thoughts/memories. A great addition to the series and I can't wait for the next one!
This series has grabbed me from the very beginning. Changeling Dawn is book three. I’m not sure what it is; the wolves, the history of the changelings, the intriguing storylines, the feeling of family or even that the author is from Alaska. I’m not sure, but Ms. Harper has sunk her claws in me and won’t let go!
Kenzie Macleod is a Changeling. It is all she has ever known. During her long life, she has lived in fear though. As a child she had a life altering event and to this day, it still forms her life, love and dreams.
Josh Talarkoteen has been to war and back. He survived an awful tragedy in Afghanistan, but returned to the states a broken man. Though years have passed and the memories have seemed to subside, he is still not over the pain.
A scared and abandoned little girl forces their buried memories to resurface. They must work through their pasts to help Anya and possibly each other. They will do everything in their power to protect Anya, even die for her.
Ummm WOW!!! Each of the novels in this series has been unique and Changeling Dawn is simply great. They all can be read alone, but why do that when you can enjoy the other two in the series too? As a whole the series is a breath of fresh air; they almost have a calming effect for me. There is action, love, sex and history, but there is much more to these books. They are well thought out and the characters are personable. Nothing is too over the top, just well written stories with heart.
Changeling Dawn tells the story of the remaining unmated daughter of the Macleod clan. She is a strong woman and very independent. From the moment she meets Josh she knows there is heat between them, but she refuses to have a relationship with a human. This barrier plagues them through the book and I have to give it to Josh and his tenacity while pursuing her.
Josh is a wonderful match for Kenzie and I loved his personality and determination. You could see the strength in him, but he was never a pushy alpha like some heroes in romance novels. He was not afraid to put himself out there for her or even Anya. He is definitely a man of great worth.
Ms. Harper really delivers with this story. The action was tense and the love scenes between Kenzie and Josh were sweet. I also enjoyed that we learned a bit more about Changelings. She has done a wonderful job with the world building in this series. I give two thumbs way up for this book and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the twins’ stories. These two men are going to need some feisty women to tame them and I can’t wait.
The Changeling series by Ms. Harper is starting to come close to a perfect PNR series for me. I adore the simplicity of the world, the family atmosphere, and the storylines on each book are always interesting. This mixed in with just the right characters, always likeable, and you have a hit!
Changeling Dawn was no different. In continuing to follow the Macleod family, this time is Kenzie's turn. Due to being hunted when she was a child she's always had a distrust of humans. Always preferring to associate with her own kind. But she has made it her life mission to study humans. She is now looking for proof that maybe humans and shifters are not so different because she knows one day, maybe soon, they will have to come out.
When she goes off on her own to research a remote archeological site, she finds more than she expected. Not only does she find her mate, who just happens to be the most adorable and hot human you'll ever come across, but she finds an orphan shifter, still in wolf form.
Something obviously happened to the little girl and she has to figure it out.
Did I already mention how much I love the characters? Well Kenzie is no exception. She's tough and independent. Set in her ways. But at the same time she has such a good heart and sometimes follows her heart, and maybe other parts of her anatomy, and shuts off her brain. I liked that about her. She didn't necessarily fight her attraction to Josh as much as I was expecting.
Now let me tell you about Josh. Puuurrrrrr. He is funny, smart, a man of many talents, animal lover, human but with a special ability. He can see the auras of shifters and recognize them as such. And shifter or not, when he sees Kenzie he's in love.
Together they try to help the little shifter and uncover a bigger scheme. An organization that has known of the existence of shifters and has been kidnapping them for experiments. Now is up to them to try and stop them.
This series is a must buy! There's romance, there's intrigue and some action. A wonderful world and a wonderful set of characters. You won't want to miss it!
I love to stumble upon a book, with no expectations and be blown away by its storyline. Changeling Dawn did ''Bring It On''! Right into my face! I never suspected to find a great story, characters and a stunning background plot!
First of all, Alaska is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world. And the author, Dani Harper, did a great job with the description of the environment/ambiance/atmosphere of her characters: we can almost see, smell and even touch that place through her writing. Changeling Dawn is the first book I read from Dani Harper and wouldn't be the last for sure!
Kenzie's the kind of girl who loves to be left alone, working by herself without having to care about others. She's pretty, a kick-ass girl with a temper! She work on her archeological site in Alaska (all alone) and on her way to her site, she'll meet Josh, (the Yummy, sexy, muscular and intriguing wildlife expert) and then a lost changeling cub named Anya hidden near her camp site. Her world would be change forever when she'll try to find out what happened to the poor girl. Kenzie and Josh will team up together and try to help the wolf cub. They will discover something bigger than just a lost pup.
Actually, a great story, I really get into the main course: really quickly and everything that happens around the basic plot is just a plus! I love the way everything seem to fall into place, the writing style was great and I never had to put the book down. It was a pleasure to read this book from page one until the very end!
I really appreciated the ending. Never thought it would end like this, and I can tell you that I wouldn't take the same decision,...!!! Even if it's the third book of the series, you can read it as a stand-alone book. I didn't read the first two stories, but I never get lost and enjoy it anyway!
I recommend this book, go get a copy, borrow it, you can start the series with the first book or read them as stand alone!
This is a review of an ARC sent to me by Kensington Publishing that according to the front cover is due to be released January 2012.
In Changeling Dawn, Dani Harper weaves a story line about some paranormal creatures she calls changelings or werewolves.
This is not your everyday werewolf story line. Changeling Dawn has romance, kidnapping, and murder...along with some mystery and intrigue.
The story opens with a very young Kenzie Macleod running for her life away of some hunters when all of a sudden she shifts into her wolf form. While Kenzie suffers a traumatic experience, she isn't caught by the hunters and lives to grow into young woman who holds two doctorates. She is an accomplished and well-known archaeologist who has learned since her childhood experience with the hunters not to trust humans.
Kenzie's family or pack live in Canada and are hassling her to find a mate and settle down. She insists she doesn't need anyone and is happy just the way she is.
For me this book started out a little slow and bulky with all the back story being added at the front. It seemed a little top-heavy. However, after it moved on into chapter two, things began to pick up.
This book is not for children....it has several scenes throughout the book after Kenzie meets Josh that are rather sizzling....after all she is a changeling and there senses run a little hotter than humans....at least according to Dani Harper.
All jokes aside, I did love the book once I got past the first couple chapters and the sizzling scenes did not detract from the story line at all...as a matter of fact, I felt they moved it along quite nicely.
I would definitely recommend Changeling Dawn by Dani Harper to my friends.
This book was provided to me free of charge for an honest review.
I love Dani Harper style of writing I've read the first two in this series and I was blown away by this storyline. Changeling Dawn has a great story, in depth characters with an intricate and plot and influencing back stories. Its set in Alaska (different to the other Changeling novels)I've never been there but now feel like I have Dani, did a great job with the description of the stunning environment / ambiance / atmosphere I could feel I was at the places through her writing. The story follows the each of the main characters through their view point, so I could understand all the decisions they made and what influenced them and I could empathy with each of them in a way other novelists wish they could achieve. There are lots of twists and turns to this novel and its a real page turner. I recommend this book its a great love/paranormal story. You can read this as a stand alone novel (although I prefer to read series in order even when each is designed to be able to stand alone)- and I'm sure if you do you will want to read the first two Changeling Moon and Changeling Dream
Kenzie Macleod is a changeling and is having nightmares. She keeps having flashbacks to Scotland, where she was born. She lives among humans but doesn’t trust them. After all, they are the reason her people were all but exterminated in Scotland and England. She is looking for the Athabasca Fish Camp when she meets Josh Talarkoteen, a fish and game warden.
Kenzie finds herself thinking about Josh a lot. She can’t remember his last name but she can’t forget anything else about him. She also can’t figure out why her inner wolf wants a human so much. Kenzie wants to mate with a changeling, but can she accept that her mate might just be a human?
Changeling Dawn is the third book in the Changeling series by Dani Harper. I love this series—there is always a twist and a turn I didn’t see coming. Kenzie is a strong woman who is used to making her own way in life. I think this is why when she finds herself with a mate, it is a bit much for her at first. She isn’t used to anyone having her back.
Josh is loyal, sweet, and completely male. He is so sexy and smart that I can easily see why Kenzie falls for him. Together they will have to face both of their pasts in order to overcome their problems and find love on the other side. Ms. Harper always writes a story that I can’t stop reading, and now she combines it with heat and passionate characters, and makes a book that is really remarkable to read. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Harper comes up with next for this series.
Well let me start by saying this is not normally a book I would read. In fact this is the first werewolf book I have ever picked up. I don’t know why but I just don’t do werewolf books. However, I was glad I did read this book. I actually enjoyed it. Both the main characters and sub ones had interesting roles in this book.
I liked that this book was more in a mystery kind of way rather than a love story, yes the romance was there but done with a bit of a spin. The main focus was on the mystery and solving where Anya the little cub came from and how to help her. Along the way you see the budding romance and more develop within the characters.
Josh is a human who has a past still haunting him literally. While spending time with Kenzie he learns how to use that past and get over it. Kenzie a changeling (werewolf) is fearful of humans due to event in her past. With the help of Josh and her need to help Anya, Kenzie learns that not all humans are bad; in fact some can be trusted. You just have to have faith sometimes.
After this book I think I need to keep more of an open mind with werewolves, they really can be interesting stories…
-three major editing problems in the ebook where the font suddenly shifted mid-sentence to super teeny tiny font. to where i had to enlarge to font to # 8-9 to make large enough to read. (which for the regular font was so big only three words fit across the entire screen.)
"people often hug their fears to them like teddy bears, even though they're made of barbed wire instead of fluff. letting go of fear can be scarier than what you're afraid of."
"my gramma would take this fry pan to anyone who wasted good meat. it's disrespectful to the animal. without respect a hunter won't find any more game and then everyone goes hungry. the animals know."
"she'd been scared out of her mind and everyone would have been focused on soothing her - and that probably meant never bringing up the subject again. how could they know that some things needed to be opened not just once, but again and like an infected wound until all the poison had drained away."
